Alright, I began brainstorming this idea earlier today when I was bored in my lit class
. How about a collaborative project to make a battling card game consisting of the fiction verse akin to the vs topics we do here? I think an interactive game would be a hell of a lot of fun. We could put it on a free website or something. I’ve already come up with a few thoughts about the game and am looking for help.
Flash programmers would be welcome, I assume that would be the medium. I’ve seen other card battle games like this.
Good posters here that think battles fully through in all dimensions are the ones I want on the collaboration making characters, techniques, and items. Such posters would include: ChibiDiscoDhaos, Zeedmillenniumon, Dongtacular, Sheko, and Messiah Complex. Biased posters and wanks need not apply.
Here are some rules and procedures I came up with:
There are three basic decks where the players draw randomly, consisting of characters, (anyone you can think of) techniques, (Heat Vision, Giga Slave, etc.) and items (Ultimate Nullifier, Infinity Gauntlet, etc.).
6-12 characters per player (still not sure on a number but somewhere in between those two would be most likely) The object of course is to kill all of your opponent’s characters.
Items and techniques are drawn from the deck after every two turns or so.
Dice are rolled (or a random number is generated) to see if the attack hits or misses. The higher the opponent character’s speed that the attacking player is targeting, the higher the chance of a miss. Probabilities corresponding to speed classes will be worked out later.
Of course, each character would have a basic melee attack relative to their strength level, HP relative to their durability level, magic points relative to their stamina level, and techniques that would do damage in proportion to the power of that attack in the respective canons. Items and power-ups may increase those stats.
Some basic rules I came up with would include:
1. No more than one omnipotent per player, and the omnipotent’s characters card can only be used once (on one character or to do one thing) before it must be discarded back to the character deck. However, the omnipotent can instantly kill any enemy or fully restore an allied character.
2. Omnipotents cancel out other omnipotents, and this is the only way to counteract them.
3. No more than two near-omnipotents on a player’s team, and they can still die but are very powerful and hard to kill.
4. Players can trade cards with each other for a few turns prior to battle.
5. Shields such as Light Hawk Wings or Dispell Bounds have their own HP, and absorb as much damage as their HP allows without damaging the user.
6. Most techniques are character-specific.
7. Most items can be used by anyone.
The game shouldn’t be too difficult to make once all the kinks are figured out, and the beauty is is that it can always expand, as new characters, etc. can always be added or tweaked.
I’d be happy to contribute for the series that I’m an expert on. These series would include: Dragon Ball, Bastard!!, Gundam Wing, Morrowind, Xena: Warrior Princess, Homer’s work (the Iliad and Odyssey), 24, Sailor Moon, and the Matrix. I’m also pretty knowledgeable about the Diablo Series, Metal Gear, and Starcraft (I haven’t played MGS 3 or 4, and haven’t played Starcraft II, but am familiar with them can find out any necessary info quickly).
So yeah, this is just a brainstorm I came up with but once an idea gets started things tend to come to me rather quickly. It’d be really cool if this can happen. Looking forward to any interest. ![]()
