I apologize for the “unrelatenation” but little things like this tend to nag me until I figure them out, reason I didn’t plan on being a doctor or scientist...sorry

We can discuss it here, I don’t want to take up the entry thread.
You’ll have to learn how to use whatever program you choose.
But whatever program it is, make sure it’s the right size.
And use layers (assuming you have them).
(just a warning...I know very little about sig making, I’m just giving you the basics of basics)
>_>
looking at your sig, i’d say otherwise. Thats a Bona fide sig, and it’s ABOVE the I-series sigs...
and with GIMP
?
maybe i need to opn up gimp and learn how to use it. Im photoshop all the way, but.....<_<.. you’re able to put out ridiculous sigs. Mine, well....it’s hard to say...seems more of a science than a art..but the art of it, i can’t always nail

I do like that sig...but it’s always the idea that makes it look good..not so much the skills.
I’m pretty clueless to most of the techniques.
Very hit or miss.
Also, in mooooost of my sigs I try to use as much of my own stuff as possible(my own pictures or drawings).
But I don’t always have time or something appropriate(pirates for example).
But using my own photgraphs tends to make things harder, and I can’t seem to get the effects I usually want.
I’ve been looking at the odd tut though; learning a bit. But I don’t have that much time.
Oh, and as I understand it, gimp is fairly similar to photoshop.
start with a gradient background, for the most part. Try to make the direction flow with whatever the main image is.
make a few copies of the main image. Smudge and blur the majority of them so that the whole thing has the main colors of the image. For smudging and blurring, make sure the brushes are set to scatter.
Downloading new brush packs are something you’ll probably want to do as well. Gives you some good stuff to work with.
c4ds are always welcome, but if you can make a good one without them, more power to ya.
I like adding highlights. To do this, just select a color that compliments a part of the image (if you want to make something brighter, use white), use a soft brush, and color over it IN A NEW LAYER. Then set that layer to overlay and toy with the opacity so it looks good. Don’t be afraid to erase if it looks bad.
Experiment. You’ve got lots of filters and brushes and layer styles and all sorts of shit at your disposal. Toy with new combinations of them to get new effects.

Hey, thx ...these might help..
before, i was getting help from Firewolf, CT, and Cid a bit...
Hm...
i wonder if i should-probably not in this thread- post a ....step by step basis , of how i do a sig...then maybe others could tell me what might not work, that i did, then i guess...i’d load the prev version...
meh, i don’t know about that idea...saving it over and over..yet, the above method...would iron out the better and worse parts of sig making, better than anything else..
hit or miss ....yet a few people(COUGHCOUGHCOUGH FIREWOLFCOUGHCOUGHCOUGH)are so good, that they can take a BAD sig, and turn it into a good sig while keeping the questionable elements.
maybe , at this moment, i’ll do a sig or two...idk how much effort i can put into it.
Um, tips..from me(im tippership, for those of you who havent figured out).
I ALWAYS pick out a REALLY good background,. I dont care if its 1200 by whatever, i 'll shrink it.(careful, a lot of stuff will be too small if you do this)
...OR< i’ll use my latest trick of creating absract backgrounds, which i am really good .
then, i’ll find stocks...
renders...i prob don’t put them in images right..
as for C4d....there is a specific reason why i have not touched C4d brushes yet....>_> <_< >_>
because of that , im not sure they would work- ... >_>
it’d probably be for the better...i often end up warping images slightly, for slight depth..
i often don’t use the brushes often, but i DO use blend modes like overlay. And i go CRAZY on text...my latest sig,(not a I sig) i got some REALLY good effects on the text

but, a good trick to intsta-brighter, is to duplicate a layer, gaussian blur ( to about 2 or 3) , then duplicate that later, set to overlay, merge it with the one underneath, and it makes it sharper....
throw in a sharpen if you want..
How i make my SICK abstracts, lol...i’ll share .. http://www.webdesigndev.com/photoshop/create-an-abstract-forum-signature-using-photoshop
basically though, i try to get the lighting right...i probably throw in too many stocks.
I recently started usign the clone stamp tool to blend stuff...im lazy, but hey....
clone stamp is your friend..it lets you ...move logos <_< >_> ( i didn’t say that) ... and continue backgrounds and patterns..
My I-series sigs, i put a LOT of work into, erasing and outlining some thingspixel via pixel, and i probably overdid the stocks, ..http://lounge.moviecodec.com/arts/improved-series-signatures-69894//url]

Tricks to making sigs are more than just finding cool pictures.
I don’t have a bevvy of knowledge on how to do a lot of the cooler effects, but I do know a few things.
Get a lot of brushes. Hell, if you have the awesome ability to draw basic 2-D shapes, make your own brushes. =D
Look up things such as the rule of thirds, or the more complex Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio is a bit difficult to understand, but if you study the illustration of it enough, and practice placement, you’ll get the hang of it.
Also, having a good understanding of the color wheel will help a lot. Certain color combinations add to dynamics or mood pretty well. I recommend finding a color wheel.
These are basics. Sigs are mostly practice and just looking at and analyzing other people’s sigs. Just don’t copy them.
