2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHybrid
WOW, thats almost 30mpg, For a high end big heavy mercedez.
Mercedes-Benz is already well-known for its BlueTec turbodiesels. But hybrids, not diesels, are all the rage in the U.S. Now, Mercedes is joining the frenzy, introducing its first passenger car equipped with a hybrid drive system, hitting European dealers next summer and arriving in the U.S. in November 2009 as a 2010 model. Mercedes claims the S400 BlueHybrid will be “the world’s most economical luxury sedan with a spark-ignition engine."

The S400 BlueHybrid is based on the S350. It uses a modified version of that car’s 3.5-liter V-6 together with an electric motor and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery. Several key features here: The lithium-ion battery resides in the engine compartment where the traditional starter battery usually sits; this means that, unlike most hybrids which have to sacrifice trunk space for the battery pack, the interior and cargo space of the S-Class remain unchanged. The hybrid module has a start/stop function that switches off the engine to reduce fuel consumption at stoplights.
The S350’s V-6 was modified with a new cylinder head, different pistons and a new camshaft, which together increase power (up 7 bhp, to 279) while reducing fuel consumption. Combined with the electric motor (housed in the torque converter between the engine and the 7-speed automatic transmission), the S400 BlueHybrid makes 299 bhp and 284 lb.-ft. of torque. This enables the large sedan to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.2 sec. and a top speed of 155 mph. Yet Mercedes says C02 emissions are reduced by 21 percent compared to the S350, while combined fuel economy is just 29.7 mpg.
The driver will be able to monitor the hybrid drive system via a display on the instrument cluster, which shows the energy flow during “boost” and “recuperation” phases as well as the battery’s charge status.
Besides being on Mercedes' display stand at Paris — the S400 BlueHybrid is also being used to shuttle Mercedes-Benz’s guests around the city.
2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon
LOL, Cadillac made there own Magnum
Although Cadillac had previously unveiled its all-new CTS Sport Wagon back in August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California, it was unveiled to a truly world audience at the Paris show.
Power will come from a base 263-bhp 3.6-liter V-6 with variable valve-timing, with Cadillac’s excellent direct-injected 304-bhp 3.6-liter V-6 as an option. Both will route power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission; all-wheel drive is available as well. Asian and European markets will get a 250-bhp 2.9-liter turbodiesel, which sure would be nice as an option in the U.S.

While EPA fuel mileage figures have yet to be released, Cadillac says that there is no decrease in fuel mileage from the sedan. Additionally, both of the V-6 engines available for the U.S. model can run on regular unleaded gasoline.
We talked to Cadillac Design Director Clay Dean about what he was trying to achieve with the CTS Sport Wagon. Replied Dean: “It’s a taut design that note only suggests sleekness, but delivers it. Indeed, the drama of the sedan is amplified by the CTS Sport Wagon, as the centerline cue that is part of the exterior and interior is more prominent and plays a stronger role in defining the design at the rear of the vehicle. Functionality was certainly a guiding factor during development, but so was the idea to inject emotion into the normally sedate wagon category."
While many sedans grow longer when they get “wagonized," this CTS Sport Wagon has actually shrunk. It’s shorter by a third of an inch; the wheelbase remains unchanged.
Highlights include a power-opening liftgate, in-floor stowage in the rear cargo compartment, a very low-profile roof rack with adjustable cross bars, a small, rear roof lip spoiler, 19-in. wheels and a panoramic rear sunroof as an option.
This new wagon will not be a North American-market exclusive, according to Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor. “This is an important step in Cadillac’s ongoing global expansion, and of course in international markets like Europe, wagons have been and continue to be very significant," he says. Now we know why the CTS Sport Wagon was at the Paris show...
The Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon will be available in the U.S. by the spring of 2009.
2010 Lotus Evora
I’ve had my Eye on this car for about 2 years now and its finally finished
It’s finally here — the Lotus Evora 2+2 sports car. Powered by Toyota’s aluminum-block 3.5-liter V-6 (continuing Lotus’s relationship with the Japanese automaker whose 2ZZ inline-4 powers Elise and Exige models) the Evora will be very quick. The V-6 produces 280 bhp, plenty of power to move the Evora with speed. The chassis is aluminum, with a tubular steel rollover structure that also serves for seatbelt anchorage. Lotus says that the 2+2 laps the Nürburgring “considerably faster” than the Elise, and is more stable at speed than an Exige. Top is speed is 160 mph, and the car hits 0–60 in less than 5 seconds.

The Evora certainly looks like its smaller 4-cylinder brothers, with more prominent rear haunches and dramatically sculpted rocker panels. Its technically a 2+2, but those rear seats are sized for children. We suspect most buyers will order the car as a 2-seater with the rear area devoted to a luggage shelf.
Leather upholstery will be standard, as will edge-lit flush-mounted buttons and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Lotus plans to build 2000 per year, with deliveries starting in spring 2009. Look for a convertible and an ultra-high-performance derivative at a later date.
