Go to a lower class Urban area, then go to an upper class suburb. Which place will you see African Americans (born and raised in those locations) use that word typically? I been to both and I can answer that question for you...

What does that have to do with if it’s wrong or not, upper class and lower class people of any race have different slang and dialect “nigga” isn’t the only word said by one and not the other.

How does the fact that people growing up in a lower class home say “nigga” more often than people who don’t have anything to do with the topic at hand? The topic is about whether or not the word should be considered “OMGZ NOEZ!", and you point out who says it more means nothing.

If you don’t like the word that’s one thing, but times are changing, and words and their meanings change. You can choose to stay in the past where the word is a hateful one, but all that’s going to do is lead to unnecessary bawwing when people who aren’t stuck in the 1800’s use the word as it should be: without hate.

It is the phonetic spelling in a southern african american (or ebonics) dialect. Personally I see using that word (especially since its used toward afican americans and people who associate themselves with them) as staying in the past. Most (not all) of the African Americans who use that word are the ones who are less fortunate financially etc. or were raised in that setting in one time in their life.

What does this have to do with anything?

It’s not a hard concept to grasp, a word changing meaning over time. It happens even faster if people don’t resist it.

See 8 racist words you use every day.

Exactly I say nigga all the time in real life and I don’t mean it in a racist way, now saying NIGGER is totally different.

It really doesn’t matter if your not being racist its still an echo of slave mentality.

You’re only giving the word power...

We can’t forget our history.

Stop acting like you lived that life. You need to put all that behind you. If we can’t forget our history, then I assume that we should all be offended by being called racist slave owners?

Stop giving the word power.

Those who use it are giving the word power. I know I didn’t live that life, but if you spent time with African Americans you see a trend between people who use that word and living in lower class urban settings at one point in their life or currently, and those who never did live a middle class lifestyle. Of course there are exeptions. Of course its not the word only, sometimes its lifestyle choices and some times its forces beyond their control, but let me put it this way, you Dave Chappelle in the actor’s studio said that they have African Americans have two “languages” “job interview” and “black talk”. Even though some black people use it liberally, they know not to use it in certain situations, why is that? This can be applied to slang in general, but the specifically n — a/n — er word in this situation is taken out.

That goes for a lot of words in general. It isn’t just racial slurs. For instance, at a job interview you would not curse. It doesn’t have to be bad if we all come together and not make it bad. Sure it can be used as an insult but so can a number of other things. Remember when some one called you stupid in kindergarten? You took offense to that I’m sure. But now, it’s just like “Okay. Whatever." if we apply that mindset to things like “Nigga” then we would have a lot less problems.

I think he gets it just fine. You are the one holding on to memories of the past that you never came close to expirencing for yourself. You didn’t know anyone who did either. The reason why it so so offensive is because you give it so much power.

You say we shouldn’t forget the past, then don’t let what our founding fathers write in our constitution be forgotten.

I’m not supporting this word being used in racist ways, I am simply saying, give them a big fuck you and don’t let it bother you. That’s what they want out of you. If you take that power away from them, then racists will eventually not be such a big deal and they will have to find a new thing to do. Correct?

I really don’t, they now know not to say it around me (although they say it to each other when I’m not around *shrugs*)

I know this isn’t the religion forum but...
1 Corinthians 6:12sadEnglish Standard Version)
12(A) “All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.

The N-word in particular falls into this catagory IMO.

The way I see it, we aren’t where we used to be many years ago (African Americans and American people in general) why should we go back to when terms like that were common place? Black people called themselves that believing thats what they were, and it was okay. Today the word still pretty much has the same meaning despite its “new nicer meaning” in usage for people of certain groups. I see that as living in the past.

So you are willing to limit freedom of speech just because you dislike a word? We might as well abolish all offensive words like Cracker or cunt or redneck. That is the path you would be setting up for my friend.

As far as it being living in the past, it isn’t. It’s using the words of the past. Then again you’ve been doing that too. There is nothing wrong with using the words of the past, it’s thinking you are part of that past(It’s possible people could have been part of the past they are living in, but not in this case) is when things get ridiculous.

If we ban this word because it is offensive to a minority, then we should ban any offensive material like the words listed above.

I understand it’s a racial slur with power and like I said, YOU give it the power it has on you. The word isn’t just powerful on it’s own.

Clarification: Discrimination/degrading marks against unpopular/morally questionable groups (such as nazism) is in many cases pointless or inflamatory and because of that constitutes spam rather than discrimination. Moviecodec.com does NOT defend these groups in any way!

I have been seeing a ton of terms like 'Gay', 'Faggot', and 'Homo' being used A LOT in the speech people are using here lately.
What happened to back when people would get yelled at, warned, and even banned for such language?

Exhibit A - Note the name of the thread.

Exhibit B is an earlier convo i had with Boo. where he called me a 'Homo', then stated 'Homo' is a good way of saying it, while 'Faggot' was the bad way.

Exhibit C

Solution A:
An earlier rant

Solution B:
For the derogatory sayings, DON’T USE THEM!!!
find words like 'stupid' or 'dumb' to take their place.

Note: typed this with one hand.
anyone that feels they should add something, do.

Learn to rant better, this is sad shocked
