I’ll look into it. But we also have to keep in mind that this is only a forum, and there are those who may type in “anybody ages 13-15 please come to this chat room” on google and find the topic magically.

Surprisingly, all of the guests on page three of the topic have different I.P. addresses. They are all different people.

It discriminates against people who are younger than 13 or older than 15.

I call for a lock.

I also agree with that. It should be locked. We have 3 other random discussion topics: responded, cookie jar, and who’s here? I want to lock all of em but Responded cus it was here first...I mean come on! Do we really need this many topics for the same thing?

I’ll just see what the other mods say about the issue of that topic...cus only GR responded here...

Well, we do have several topics for the same purpose, The Who’s on Forum is a general chat thread however it was originally made to serve a purpose besides that, and hell... it’s got over 40,000 posts within just a few months.

Enter the Cookie Jar... that’s up to you guys, I have no personal preference on whether to keep it or not.

The 13-15 thread, I’d say get rid of it. It’s just a general chat thread that attempts to get the attention of a small age group, most of which are probably over 15 anyways. Not to mention that it keeps dieing and getting revived.

I say lock it.
Why limit the age of a poster on a thread?
It doesn’t make any sense to me.
Besides, who knows how old these people really are...?

I say keep the most responded and I also have vested interest in the who’s on at the moment thread also. It has come a long way very quickly and it has a whole slew of devoted members posting in it. I would totally disagree with locking it.

Also, It still serves its original purpose on a regular daily basis.

Members, more often than not post there first to get their meet and greet fix before heading out into other topics.

This is good for the forum as it allows people to catch up with a simple hello, which normally gets returned and followed by a small conversation which serves as a catch up among members and friends.

The reason this is good for the forums is this.

It keeps the basic how are you doing chit chat out of the other threads and keeps the conversation focused on the thread topic. This effectively stops most of the spam that used to plague the forum topics before its inception.

Almost gone are the days of topics being destroyed and lead off on wild tangents, completely unrelated to the topic title, because the members get it all out of their system in the Who’s on at the moment thread.

There is a reason that the topic has almost bested the Most Responded Forum Ever. In just over 2 months, the Who’s on at the Moment thread has almost superseded the Most responded forum ever in both post count and popularity. This is no mean feat, seeing as the Most responded forum ever has been around for almost 2 years, not to mention that a part percentage of that threads posts are blatant SPAM.

The Who’s on at the moment is not plagued by such a tarnished reputation and history.

The two so called general chat threads serve two different purposes.

The most responded forum ever is in essence a random topic thread, where there is no set conversations, just fleeting individual ones.

The Who’s on at the moment thread, serves the purpose of allowing people to talk about their day outside of the forum, vent, greet and meet before heading out to other specific topic related threads.

TWO DIFFERENT THREADS
TWO SEPARATE PURPOSES

I SAY

KEEP EM BOTH!

no one hardly posts in the most responded, " they " who used to are either gone or posting in the " who’s here now "
or randomly posting everywhere...

it would be completely unfair for the who’s on thread to be locked, as mimi said we have allot of friends there 15-20 + people chat there everyday, including myself...

ill also add...the most responded topic is pretty much dead...hardly anyone posts there...it took 2 months to get 500 posts...and most of it was spam all done in small amounts of time..

Hmmmm, i see a problem rearing its ugly head here sad

I did leave a message about this 'locking' idea somewhere else, but i cant find it now - but basically it said this. . .

Why lock something just because 'you' dont specifically use it? the purpose of a forum is to find help/advice/friends/humour etc., to read topics that interest an individual. Please - before locking anything, consider if a topic has helped anybody first, not for yourself, but also for others. Can it be added too later? is it of general interest (or will it be next week/month).

If we only have 'one' general purpose topic to chat on, it becomes a nightmare for people to chat on if a few members arrive together, cos the posts are so many - too fast.
It becomes like being in a crowded room, with everybody all talking at once, and nobody really getting heard/words get missed.

OK, i should read faster to keep up eh? well, no. What if im not able to easily read English? that’s discrimination. What if i have a slow connection, or i’m a naturally slow reader or writer? or i have a slow PC? I can agree with locking topics that dont get used (if they are bad, break rules, get offensive in the wrong way etc.). But the Cookie Jar, Most Responded, and Who’s On Here, have done none of these things (ok, maybe some mild spam, but isnt general chit-chat often like spam if you aint related to the conversation in hand??). I thought a topic could only be locked if it really did break rules 'completely'? not just because somebody didnt like it? :-|

As Dante has pointed out, the Most Responded topic has slowed down now. But i think it’s a little to early to consider locking it, just monitor its possible 'demise' over the next few months maybe? after all, it’s not as if its a problem is it? it isn’t hurting anybody to be there. And neither are any other 'slow' topics. The 'cheeky' topic should not be stopped, because it has made many here laugh - a lot. The reason it doesnt get hundreds of posts is because the humour would get broken up too much by having one funny foto, then 10 members saying “i like that one” etc. It’s a place for fun (i only mentioned that cos it looked like that was in danger of getting stopped last week).

On the subject of the original 13-15 topic, i would have stopped that not because it is descriminatory, but because it 'can' attract 'undersirable' people, internet predators etc. who will be looking on google for just such opertunities. People get 'invloved' in other peoples lives, and its a risky name to have as a topic in todays wacky society.

Well, thats enough words for one message. I hope things don’t start going *KABOOOOOM* with possible lockings being thrown about. Also, i must say this . . . .

Totalitus - you wrote “I say lock em all and keep Responded. I just wanna see what GR has to say on the matter...and...whoever else is a mod still”

Erm, what does that make us other members? does our opinion not matter here? you made it sound like the MODs are all Demi-Gods who sit on high waiting to weild out punishment to the topics shocked The whole forum, and everybody in it, is important.
“The needs of the many outway the needs of the few”

Please don’t make it sound like us non-MODs aint of any significance in anything that affects the forum sad The forum exists because of 'all' of us. No offense intended, and thanks for reading.

everyone’s blowing this way out of proportion. I was just suggesting locking the “13-15 please come here” thread. Nothing else. I was just saying how its a stupid topic that keeps dying and getting revived. I like the whos on here at the moment thread. and I couldn’t care less about the most responded thread. as for the cookie jar? Eh

Phear.

Anyway...I suppose WHATM can stay...although from what I’ve seen it’s just another Responded.
