This also confuses me, please elaborate as to how these rules stop you from having fun... Surely you don’t find discussion on rascism, discrimination, suicide, death threats, ect... as fun.

It’s mostly rule #8. It makes me feel like when I am at a certain thread and I want to post I am forced to talk about that specific subject every time. I know the point of a thread is to talk about a certain subject, but usually in a thread the subject gets changed without anyone even noticing. When the subject gets changed inconspiculously people are still having fun. It doesn’t mean you have to delete or lock the forum. You don’t have to get rid of Rule #8, but you should elaborate on it so me and other people don’t feel so condemned to that subject.

Hehe, I have seen you post on the 'PS3 vs Xbox 360 vs Wii' thread, and there are MANY off-topic discussions on that thread.

But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a moderator edit posts because it is getting off-topic, so do you have any examples of this happeneing?

But even if we were to moderate 'off-topic' discussions, we still have those two stickied threads in the Off-topic section which are pretty much chat rooms.

I have a suggestion!

How about people with rude or bad names should either be banned imediately or given the choice to change their name.

Like 'ramunematt is a fucking dumbass' has plagued these topics for a while, and notice his name, he should be banned!

I’m sure ramunematt will agree with me the most.

5) Discrimination against certain racial groups, sexual orientation or otherwise is generally also NOT allowed. Debate is welcome, even heated debates, ie. about religion; but you have no right, or permission, to post inflamatory or clearly rediculous allegations against certain religons etc.

Regarding the above rule, I have noticed a lot of discrimation around sexual orientation on the forums. There are a lot of people who, rather than respectfully disagreeing with an argument, tell the person that they “must be gay”. There are a lot of derogatory statements made about homosexuals as well.

Less frequently I have seen discrimation against women - although this tends to be by trolls rather than people who regularly contribute.

Could we see this rule enforced please? smiley

Yes the Gay remark is commonly used here. However, the word gay is described as Showing or characterized by cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement; merry. Now one could always argue that’s what he/she particularly meant was the “happy” version of the word gay. You could surly question their intent, but you could never prove it wrong.

For example, if I were in a debate with somebody and I said, “you must be gay.”, well if that person seemed happy, excited or merry at that moment it would be a perfectly valid statement. On the other hand, if that person was angry, mad, and ridiculous I could also use sarcasm in my argument for the antonym of being gay in the happy definition of the word. It’s perfectly valid.

It all depends upon the context. For example, when someone says “that’s gay” (which by the way I didn’t cite as a problem) it can hardly mean “that’s happy” as it makes no logical sense.

Also you know that’s not the way the word is being used - especially as most of the people who are using it might not even understand the original meaning of the word.

And when someone calls someone else a “gay faggot” - I hardly think they’re calling them a happy bunch of twigs meant for firewood wink.

Although there is the occasional person who wanders onto this forum for the first time and doesn’t seem to realize it’s an old thread...

Members who do it, however, know full well it shouldn’t be revived.
