The first post on here are some guidlines from another forum which summarize what we have more efficiently and add on a few things. It’d probably make things simpler at the least.
That’s my batch of suggestions. Not necessarily needed to be taken word for word, but it could at the least cut down the number of rules we have in virtually half as well as adding some on.

(May have made a post such as this before, apologies if I have ahead of time)

The link in text form:


1.) Type in correct sentence structures + use spell checker. Do not type entirely in CAPITAL LETTERS.
Try to use comas and periods when writing more than a few sentences.
Use a spell checker if you constantly miss-spell things.
By following these points, you make your posts understandable for others.

2. ) Do not double post. Don’t post directly after your own post in the hopes of adding something to what you’ve already said. Instead, just edit the post you’ve already made.

3.) Be mature. Do not repeatedly spam or flood the boards with irrelevant, nonsense replies and/or new topics, or flame (insult) someone on the board.

4.) Language. Do not bypass the filter with curse/swear words. Just say “damn” or “crap”. No need for real vulgarity. Editing posts for language will be up to the Moderators discretion.

5.) Do not make “test” posts anywhere besides the test forum:

6.) Advertising Other Sites. You cannot use this site for promotion of other sites. Links in sig, fine. Creating a topic just to advertise a site is not allowed.

7.) Forum Content
Images with Adult content are not allowed.
Perverse comments are to be kept to a minimum.

8.) Spoiling Games, Movies, etc.
Spoiling of the plot or content of video games, movies, shows, etc. must be clearly marked so the reader can skip over or avoid reading the spoiler. If it is not, the person who posted the spoiler will get a ban warning.

9.) Alternate accounts
You are only allowed to use one account. If there are difficulties using only one, you may use another, but ONLY if you inform an administrator of your situation and explain the problems you are having with your original account.

If a user breaks one or more of these rules, he or she will be given a warning, temporary ban or even permanent ban, depending on the situation.

Are you saying we steal some rules from the site in that link or from others. Or just that we can possibly simplify our rules a bit but still keep them efficient?

Well it might end up entailing both, but to get something more akin to that I think would help out things. They cover more things than we do in way less words after all.
I didn’t much think that far to be honest lol, just sort of getting the ball rolling. At the least we can get the rules we have simplified and maybe start adding stuff, like what they have about maturity and the spoilers.

I posted it more as an example, either to just simplify what we got or start working in extra stuff on top of it.

The maturity rule may have some issues. As unthinking as this may sound, it’s simply 'un-moviecodec'. While being rude and trolling should be frowned upon. Someone acting a bit silly should be perfectly okay. As for Spoilers, they can simply put (spoilers) in the topic title.

Well the thing with those set of rules is that it’s often up to the discretion of the moderators, many of which here are more in tune than hardcore rules can be. The rules we have are moderately old and have just been added onto, not really reworked to go along with the changes, while the moderating staff has. So, something such as the maturity rule can be “twisted” around some so not everyone has to act thirty but you can prevent trolling and flaming. (that’s mainly why that rule exists there as well, to get rid of spamming and trolling, everyone is still acting like idiots lol)

Yeah, and we also have a white text BBcode that can hide those types of things. I have no idea how often this is done but I doubt many (newer) users actually know of these methods. Least help making it mandatory will help people from spoiling games and whatnot.

I believe mods need to be more forceful with trolling. but not to the point where if you call someone a fool or idiot you get banned. But if you call them something worse and continue doing so, then it’s trolling. Not sure if I explained that well enough.

When it’s obvious the person is joking, it should be overlooked.

Yeah it’s all those things that I like that set better. Simpler rules allow for more bending, so you can overlook certain things and go for others without being hypocritical as you would be with much more concrete rules. And when you get more flexable rules, they can last for longer and shift with changes.

They should check the Versus forums. There’s a lot of that in there.

They should check the Versus forums. There’s a lot of that in there.

The vs forum and games section can get bad at times. Trolling and insults.
