Improvments to the members rep page

green ninja has been kind enough to offer her skill in scripting to make the voting system more secure and more up to date.

so bjarne can we use javascript? we plan to make it that when you click on a persons avatar it automatically gives the page an update and point for that person

lets say for example that car dice13 was my integer.
i’ll use actionscript just because i’m more familar with it but it has the same ability with changing a integer/variable.

car dice13++;
}

okay looks all good right?

i could just simply put
car dice13+100;
in the url and get 100 votes.
or
car dice13++;
to get a single vote

Yeah, I told him if I did it it would take awhile, and I would have to link it through a different page.

My mom says it’s possible, and she’s been doing this stuff for 20 yrs..

but I don’t know if I can do it.

I don’t think Bjarne will allow for people to use java or any other types of coding on the site though. It opens up a lot of security issues, and in all honesty the work that it would require Bjarne to allow a single member to use java in a post might be about as much as it would for Bjarne to add a real rep system to the site.

If you guys really want there to be an awesome rep system then why not host it off site?

I’m sure you could find some kind of free service that would allow you to do it. Then you could have a person’s avatar here link to the url off site that increases that person’s rep, then another image you have on the User Rep page could just update. You’d have the same features, but it’d be a little more work on your behalf. But on the bright side, it won’t open Codec up to any security threats because all you’d have here are the IMG bb codes which just automatically update.
