Etain you’re locking legitimate threads that do not break rules. Your claiming that they are associated with illegal downloads but that is only your assumption.
You’re locking threads referring to torrent sites (No illegal download was discussed). Torrent sites have legitimate uses. They are not illegal to use. They are not against the rules to discuss.
Firewolf’s rules regarding illegal downloads:
“Cracks, warez, serialz, illegal files etc. You are not allowed to discuss these things or post links to these things!”
Bjarne Lundgren’s rules :
“NO MENTION OF HACKING/CRACKING/SERIALS//ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS
Doing so will lead to you being banned!”
None of these rules were broken in the threads you are locking.
This one http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/29341p1.html only asks a simple question about a movie downloaded using Bitcomet, it does not say which movie (the download could easily be someones homemade movie, people use p2p to trade their homemade files all the time.)
This one http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/21424p1.html discusses invites to demonoid. Demonoid is only a search engine for torrents. They do not have illegal files on their servers.
This is Demonoid’s website disclaimer:
”None of the files shown here are actually hosted or transmitted by this server. The links are provided solely by this site’s users. The administrator of this site (Demonoid.com) cannot be held responsible for what its users post, or any other actions of its users. You may not use this site to distribute or download any material when you do not have the legal rights to do so. It is your own responsibility to adhere to these terms.”
Please stop locking threads because you “assume” the thread starter is referring to an illegal download. If you’re going to do this, you might as well lock half the threads on this site.
Bobby - I am very familiar with those particular sites and they are almost nothing BUT illegal downloads - especially Demonoid. I am aware that these programs (for example Limewire and Demonoid) can be used for legitimate downloads, but the use of them for illegal downloads tends to far outweigh the other.
You’ll find many file sharing sites and programs that are used for downloading illegal files, music, etc. have very similar disclaimers to Demonoid simply because they don’t want to be held legally responsible for what their members do. I try hard not to make uninformed decisions .
However if you truly feel that you have a case for these topics to be unlocked you can present it to Bjarne.
Doesn’t matter Etain. You uphold the rules, not your own ideas of what’s morally right.
Do you actually think this site is mostly helping people with their camcorder codecs or something like that? I think not. What do you think all those KVCD AVI XVID DIVX threads are mainly discussing? Under it all, they are helping people figure out how to play their downloaded movies and music.
So if you’re against downloading movies and music, which involve codecs...hint hint “Moviecodecs," you might aswell leave moviecodec and go post on itunes or something.
If a specific copyrighted download is being discussed, then it is breaking the rules. But if it stays only technial, then i, and every other rational person, would say its a perfectly acceptable topic.
Tell me, if i created a thread and asked, “Which codecs do i need to play the movie i downloaded using utorrent." Will you lock that thread which was posted on MOVIECODEC?... it’s all in the name Etain. Codecs are used to compress movies so they can (most of the time) be uploaded/downloaded more efficently. You’re kind of moderating doesn’t belong on a here.
A thread you posted on but did not lock. The topic starter is asking for a program to play his kvcd dvd screener! 100% illegal and against the rules, but you gave no lock? Yet you turn around and lock ones that don’t break the rules? Very poor moderating.
Bobby Bobster - I am upholding my understanding of the rules which is not to discuss anything concerning illegal downloads. I do not make up my own rules as you seem to be implying. If you notice I did not mention anything to do with my personal opinion on the subject, nor will you ever hear me do so. Bjarne made the rules about not discussing illegal downloads - so my job is to uphold those rules.
With the kvcd dvd I was unaware of its illegal nature (as I mentioned in my above post the other ones I was acting on information I have actual knowledge of). Now that you have pointed that out, I will lock that topic. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. If there are other topics that you feel strongly should be dealt with, simply post a link here in feedback for a moderator to take a look at .
As I have said before if you truly believe that you are inconvienced by those 2 topics being locked, then you can take the matter up with Bjarne. Flaming me can accomplish nothing. In future, I would recommend that you try to make suggestions, or pose questions, without using ad hominem (attacking the person not the argument).
