well, the 360’s hddvd will only be able to play movies since it’s an external drive as where the ps3’s bd-rom drive will be able to play games in the blu-ray format.
as to whether which drive is better, the bluray drive has a higher transfer rate and the discs will have almost twice as much space to store extra content. HD-DVD is more of a DVD 1.5 version. that’s just my opinion though. with bluray, you’ll be able to experience uncompressed sound, which makes a huge difference, and video quality would be noticible like compnent to HDMI.
the leap from DVD to blu-ray is like the leap from VHS to DVD. more content, extremely higher quality in sound, and better video.
Blu-ray supports more data capacity per layer compared to HD DVDs. That is 25GB per layer versus 15GB of HD DVD. Technically it can fit three different capacities; 25GB is merely the average, these capacities are 23.3GB, 25GB or 27GB. This equates to over 4 hours of high definition video with audio.
There is also the option of dual-layers: 46.6GB, 50GB or 54GB, which is roughly 8 hours. Currently BDA are researching 100GB and 200GB technology with 4 or 8 layers, this keeps the technology ‘future proof’.

Oh no there is not that amount of leap between the two.
really? that’s like saying there’s not that much of a difference between a 4-head hi-fi VCR playing a tape that’s THX digitally enhanced with dolby pro-logic vs a DVD with just dolby digital. both pictures are still clear, both with good sound, and both hooked up with RCA plugs. yet, there’s still a major difference. do u have any idea wut uncompressed sound is? or how 'bout a video that hasn’t been modified from the studio straight to disc? there’s a massive difference between a DVD and a blu-ray disc.

vhs couldnt save ur computer files, dvd could. how eva xtra features for blu ray other than jst one hell of a larger picture and better sound and more features and faster transfer rate. is the fingerprint resistant serface and scratch free too. means my movies will neva start to wait 1 second to go to the next scene after a year of owning it.
also vhs didnt hold games, dvd holds games, and blu ray holds well. anything that comes to your mind.
is the ps3 will be compatable wif 8 layered bd roms then we will see an unbleiveable amount of storage. eg going from dvds 8.5 gb(dual layer) to bd roms(8layer) 200 fucking gb!!!!!!!!!!!! all on one whole disc!!!!!!!! the ps3 is the only console to suport bd rom for games, even pc doesnt suport it for games yet. u will have an expereince thts not posible anywhere else but ps3
actually, tapes were the first “saving” media that came out. maybe not in the form of the VHS, but i had a tape that saved and backed my computer up. it was smaller though, but it did the job.
lol... this reminds me of the Beta VHS vs. VHS wars. Guess who won? But that was really because of popular demand than convenience. But I think that Blu-Ray is going to win, all though it is a bit of a coincidence that Beta VHS was also backed by Sony...

Sound and video is proovably superior on HD-DVD. This is simply because content on HD-DVD uses the VC-1 codec instead of BD’s MPEG-2 (10year old tech, lol). For whatever reason BD movies use MPEG-2 even though VC-1 is supported by all BD players. Maybe because VC-1 was developed by MS? Who knows, but anyone who purposefully uses an inferior codec is an idiot in my book.
Also, theres no way an uncompressed movie would ever fit on a BD disc. You would need at least a Terabyte of space since 1080p video is takes about one Gigabit per second to record uncompressed. Not to mention the transfer rate needed to play the video...

Wow, when was that?
You know, I’ve always wondered how much data they stored.

HD-DVD has a more popular price if thats what your talking about, lol. But this one is more of a toss up. BD has the PS3, but HD-DVD has the price.

what are you talking about?!! In my local electronics store, HD-DVDs are selling for 29.99$ and blu-ray is selling for only 19.99$.

I meant the price of the player and the movies. On Amazon.com, all the HD-DVD movies are selling brand new for either $19.95, or $23.95 except for a few movies that seem to be priced independantly. Blu-ray sells for $19.95 or $27.95, both brand new. Again, a few seem to be priced independantly.
So I guess I can’t really say that HD-DVD has an advantage on movie prices, but in player prices, it’s the cheapest.
