End of 08 Console Sales - Sony PlayStation 3

Just like last year, I’ll make one this year. This thread is for the PS3.

How many consoles do you think it will sell by this end-of-year?

Last year it soldabout 7 million. I expect about 10 million this year due to a pricedrop towards the end of the year, better list of exclusives, and cleaning up were 360 falters in America and Europe/Other. Reason it won’t explode in more sales this year is Wii will still dominate, as 2008 will be Wiis first huge year without shortages to restrict it. Nothing can stop that.

the price drop is actually coming out around Summer time. And the games all the PS2 guys have been waiting for will be coming out this year, kicking up it’s sales even more.

Doesn’t matter when it comes. If it comes mid year then it’ll be a more relaxed explosion with a sublte increase in weekly sales and a little less in holiday sales. If it comes towards the end of the year It’ll have a large first week explosion then little to no dropoff because its the holidays. It levels off.

Not to mention those PS2 guys aren’t waiting for anything right now. Assuming that they are looking to jump in the 7th generation is silly analyst mumbo jumbo.

Of course not but there is no guarantee that they are going to buy a 7th generation console. Actually there is no guarantee that if they do buy 7th gen console that it’ll be PS3. Actually the majority of that 120 million buyers are the mainstream audience who buy by brandname, meaning they’d go for Wii over PS3. As Wii is the popular brandname going into 08.

We have to understand that you can’t assume there is fixed numbers and people for the market. I mean you can assume that for the hardcore base but not the mainstream base, or the 80%. NOr can you assume that they share the same loyalty as the hardcore, when they are more likely to be loyal to smoething that is similar to their console they own now or what’s popular. Why ya think the Ipod sells so much.

The idea that the PS2 base will all of a sudden jump or have been looking to jump to the PS3 is just analyst bullshit which can be proven over and over again false by simple market analysis.

You know whats bullshit? Thinking that many of the PS2 owners won’t go on to the PS3 or next gen at all.

Logic is a two-way street.

I never said they wouldn’t. I’m saying from an analytical standpoint assuming they will is simply impcompetence. Logic is a 2 way street, but incompetence is a u-turn always back at the person making it illegally.

Yeah right, although you may dislike the PS3, it has a pretty strong line up for 08'.
