I was thinking about what the future of gaming consoles will be.

I mean, look at the current graphics, for example, of the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. Look at the game-play used in the Nintendo Wii.

The graphics of the first two consoles are so good, I mean, take a look at Gears of War for the Xbox, the graphics are sensational. The PS3 is a great, with Blu-Ray technology and a Dualshock controller. The “Revolutionary” Wii Remote is something NOONE dreampt of coming.

Now, In my opinion, I’d say that the “future” of Gaming Consoles will include somewhat the graphics and the memory of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and an improoved Wii-Style playablity. Perhaps something like the movie “The 6th Day” pehaps?

^^ Closest vid of the movie I could get... In the movie he puts on gloves and a helm-like thing. He pretty much enters another world with this.

Possibilities are endless, motion sensing WITHOUT the need of a Motion Sensing bar? Gameplay WITHOUT the use of controllers? Games WITHOUT the use of normal CD’s? (maybe like the GameCube? smaller even? or perhaps NOT EVEN USING CD’S?).

I don’t know, there’s so many things that could be done, so many things we don’t even KNOW can be done in the gaming industry.

When our parents were young, they said that their games where like the Atari, and back then Atari was a sensation. Now, they look at the games today and they are left open-mouth.

Will we go through this? Will we see our children in the future, 20, 30 years from now (in my case approximately) playing games in consoles that we now have no idea could ever be possible? I think so, technology advances so fast, its unlimited and unpredictable.

Just imagine saying something like this in the future “Dude I got this scar playing — — yesterday” < — LoL :$

Discuss, what do you think of this?

P.S. I copied this from a topic I made on another forum, so since I don’t know if the youtube tag workds on this forum, the link is here.

Yeah, I think it’s realistic possibility that future gaming consoles will be augmented reality type of games, with 'motion-sensing' constrollers replaced by body-suits or gloves that allow you to do things inside the game, allow you to manipulate the world there.

I also think it would be great and probably feasible if Nintendo, MS, and Sony all united in creating a single console, with them splitting the profits. Pooling their collective resources and expertize together. That way also, there wouldn’t be a console war, that investment into that unified console would guarantee it’s success, being the only one, it would sell hundreds of millions of units, probably more, and all three companies would actually make a substantial profit than the way they are going now - losing so much money to build, design and support ONE console which often gets only about 30 million sales, not enough to make profit. But one console selling 200 million, split into three means they’d make profit relative to 65 million sold per console...and the millions spent sharing in the development of ONE system would be far less than the millions spent each developing their own system.

theres this thing that sony is currently working on and u can find videos of people using it and its definatly a step up from the wiimote, its the eye toy 3d, its the first single camera to see in 3d and u can attach things to ur own face like tattoos, new hair style and the eye toy knows exactly where u are looking so its like having the hair for real! it has far more potential than the wiimote and its horible pointing problems

You have ascended from fanboy to morronic Sony worshiper.

If you analize anything you just said, you too will notice, P Moore.

Look up Nintendo ON. Some say it was fanmade when the truth lies on the final scene, the one of Mario running from the Castle.

WII pointer problems? hey, Nintendo atleast has a Controller which you can Point, while the PS3’s bluetooth would just die while in play, even while the controller is on. One processor Fails, it all fails. (it has happened).

I like Sony,I’ve played the PS3. But ffs, like all consoles, it has problems, technical. And out of the three, by fact, the Wii has had the least problems, in which the most relevant was the wrist strap being thin. Not even technical

Another thing. No shit allowed here. Respect this thread. I don’t want a console discussion, I want future console discussion.

the problem with the pointer isnt technical, ya cant fix it with an update, if u want best performance make sure u close all the curtains and turn off all sources of heat including lights, if u have 2 lights above u and u point the remote at them it will pick it up thinking ur pointing at the tv, and u can’t let sunlight sine on the sensor bar, it will go berserk, make sure u remove any surfaces that may reflect, anything that deflects just a little bit of heat is a hazard, like a door knob. the wiimote just wasnt well made, they sould of used the power of light

EyeToy 2 cannot see in 3D.
You need two points of perspective to detect depth.
That’s why humans have 2 eyes.
ET has one camera. It’s can’t see depth.

But it can’t. It’s IMPOSSIBLE!
We have 2 eyes for a reason. DEPTH PERCEPTION. Take one eye away, you take away depth as well.
Eye toy has one camera. One camera, one perspective, no depth.

If you blew up a balloon in front of it, it would probably thing it’s coming closer, and vice versa.

Omg Pmoore. Dude, ffs. You compare a future product with a current product. Its like comparing a normal Xbox with the 360. When this eye toy comes out, Nintendo and probably Microsoft will have developed something similar or maybe better.

And sorry to burst you bubble, but the eye toy is very old techonology, I am able to do the same with my webcam, which I bought in 2000.

N’Game > Eye Toy

what you fail to realize is that that is physically impossible. so, unless sony is able to bend the laws of physics, then its fake.

I’ve done some investigation on the Nintendo ON, and judging by the mario, forum comments and even Nintendo hints, it doesn’t seem to be suc a fake.

P. Moore, it is impossible to detect depth without two perspectives. If you haven’t noticed, eyetoy only has ONE perspective. Either Sony mislead you to think that it could sense depth in order to get hype for it, or you made a wrong assumption. I would like a link that actually confirms eyetoy can sense depth when it only has one camera.

P. Moore likely just got a bit over excited about it, Sony wouldn’t be ignorant enough to claim something that goes against the laws of physics.

Didn’t Kuturagi already do that with his 4 dimensions comment?
