In this recent update, bungie explains some changes and facts to the existing and new weapons.
AR-for the most part it is still the same and handles the same, it was iconic and dependable for nearly anything in Halo 3, it still should fullfil the need of anyone, noob or pro alike.
DMR- as one of the 2 new all purpose weapons, the DMR is designed for the claim and surgical player. It is a mid-long range weapon most likey sporting a 3x magnification and serve as a support weapon. Being between the BR and sniper for use, it is good for accurate shots and effiecnt marksmen but it gets bad in close combat with people firing frantically, betreyed by the high recoil it gives if fired too fast.
Needler Rifle- As the new counter weapon to the DMR, it is like the carbine in stripping shields but has no homing powers at all, shots travel moderately fast, not like the Carbine or most other weapons but it can trigger a super explosion when 3 shots are nailed on an unshielded body. Headshot bonus is also here along with the DMR but that remains to be seen how it fits in with the combie explosion.
Also here is some new equipment info, each one is being carefully worked in terms of what it does and so that it does not become exploited, each has its use in gametypes. So no, the camo will not be able to be spammed by many people hoping to use shotguns along with it. The camo ability drains out when it is on or interupted by an attack.
Also here is some rumored equipment/armor abilites.
Hologram- drop a fake image of what you last did, made to distract enemies.
Bio-foam injector- depending on the multiplayer system, bungie would need to consider how the fact of players scrambling for medical packs would be compared to the non-recharging life. No one would want to be caught off with low life and not stand a chance. It is rumored that a bio-foam injector is in so you can recharge your life at the cost of no extra combat power, it would drain fast and recharge slowly as rumored.
