make sure your wireless router has 802.11b. if so, find out wut kind of security it offers, i.e. WEP. those are the first things you need to know.

I’m not sure how yours works but my router’s security is set from my PC. The only way access and change router settings are from PC. The only way to reset the router so there’s no security is by locating and holding in the reset button on the router. Your best bet is finding your router setting via PC to determine what kind of security is going on. Mine is a Linksys and I use the Linksys software but a lot of people let Windows manage wireless networks.

First I would go to “my Computer” or click “start” then “control panel”. Look for “network Connections” or “my network places” then “view network connections”. Find the connection that connects your PC to your router and double click on it. in my case, my PC is wirelessly connected to the router but most people have theirs had wired to the router. Look through any tabs to try and gain as much info as you can on the router and security (especially if you see “WEP” secured). If it’s secured you need the passwords etc to gain access.

Or try this on for size

Open your Web browser and type your router’s IP address into the address bar (The default IP address for Linksys is 192.168.1.1). When prompted, type in the Password to your router (default is “admin”wink. Click on the appropriate tab to change the setting for your router.

Hope any of this helps. If not, get your router’s brand name and model number (located on router) then search the Internet for their site to get a customer support representative on the phone with you.
