Can anyone actually give a legit reason that show’s Cloud is EMO? Honestly, I can’t think of one thing. If no one can give me a reason, then I’m going to assume from now on that anyone holding that unjustified opinion is an idiot.
Actually, Cloud was never emo to begin with. In the original FF VII he was pretty cocky, rude and outspoken and didn’t really give a crap about anybody other than himself (until he meets Aries and then when she dies).
When he was confused about who he was, whether he was himself or Zack, he was not really emo.
In Crisis Core he wasn’t completely emo, just a quiet guy, but it also stated that he wasn’t mentally fit to undertake the SOLDIER treatments, possibly because of a disorder such as depression.
In Advent Children he was more or less emo though. After Aeris and Zack’s deaths he kinda shut himself out from the world.
But once Aeris came back and talked to him, and helped him defeat Kadaj’s gang and Sephiroth, he kinda grew out of it. He didn’t seem at all depressed in Dirge of Cerberus from what I recall.

I thought in Advent Children, he shut himself away mostly due to his geostigma illness. He also obviously still blamed himself for Zack and Aerith’s deaths. He may have been strong enough to finally take down Sephiroth, but feels he wasn’t strong enough when it mattered, and cost him those he cared most about. The people in New Midgar are dying, and there is no sign of things getting better.
I don’t see his depression as meaningless at all, nor does he seem to like being depressed. I think I just see a difference between having and showing emotion vs being “EMO”.
I think him being generally very quiet and contemplative for a main hero leads many people to think that he is far more depressed than he actually is as well.

This is the point that I have been trying to make with my topic on Depression in the On-topic section.
There IS no difference. Just the way pigheaded bastards see it.
Well that point and the point that Depression is uncontrollable.

I don’t like talking about FFVII..it’s boring he’s just emo.

Thank you for that haha.
I may have misunderstood your point, but:
How is there no difference between showing emotion vs EMO? EMO’s separate themselves as a distinctive group in society.

No, that is not at all true. We wear dark colors where most people wear light, yes. But it is because it reflects what we feel. We may wear long sleeves in the blazing sun, but our hearts have left our body cold. Not everyone who is considered emo cuts themselves. We just wear dark colors, bland if you may, and have a bad depression.
I don’t want to be classified under any group of people, I am my own group, but society doesn’t see that.

Erm... well it was the EMO’s that named themselves, not society. I wear dark clothes occasionally, but that doesn’t make me EMO. And a friend of mine is clinically depressed and mild paranoid schizophrenia, and he is definitely not EMO either.
EMO above all, i think, seems to just be out cries for pity and attention. I haven’t met a single “EMO” who is a complete loner, as they always seem to group together.
*gasp* and you’re one of them... now it makes sense

Well consider me the first loner emo you have met. although it is not me who considers myself an emo, it is everyone else.

Maybe that means your not EMO then? From your description, people might as well call goths EMO then.
