Killzone wasnt a Halo killer at all. But as a game in its own right, it was actually a pretty good game. As a FPSer for the PS2, it was pretty damn good despite all it’s tech problems.
Killzone got a savaging because of the Halo-Killer comparison. It just meant it got a savaging in reviews because that comparison was always drawn.
But Killzone had great multiplayer and quite replayable at that.
The interesting thing is that K2 and H3 therefore are going to be directly and forever drawn into the same comparison.
Now, if there’s any chance that K2 actually turns out to be a lot better than H3, then we could well see H3 get the same sort of savaging as the original Killzone got.
I’m not trying to be biased or anything, but by the way Halo 3 is looking. I think it is going to be a little better than Killzone 2. I’m not saying that because I like Halo better than Killzone or anything like that, i’m just saying that based on what i’ve seen and read.
They both look pretty similar to me. Except that Halo3 seems to have better texturing and due to the art-style being very colorful and sunny outdoors, a lot more vibrant in detail.
Whereas K2 looks by far better with phsyics and destructible environments, and that motion blur cinematic effect they have whenever your character moves around on the screen. Also there appears to be better realism in the way the character’s gun moves around when youre running or reloading etc.
Im excited to try/buy both for sure. And they’ll both have very many great features to them.
Well both Killzone games that have been released, critically were not good at all. And although some people did like it, it had nowhere near the critical acclamation as Halo.
So when your going into Halo 3 and Killzone 2 you are pretty much thinking that Halo 3 will be better but you can’t say right now.
Personally I have no opinion cause I’ve only played a little bit of Killzone on the PS2 so couldn’t give an honest comparison.

something I will agree with there is motion blur, why is there barley any in bungies games?
but things most people don’t under stand that you clearly do about halo 3 is it is probably as detailed if not better then gears of war, it just takes a more colorful approach, not all grey.
I never got to try out the beta, and no one really knows yet what the actual game will be like nor K2. So the final piece of that “versus” puzzle is going to be all the bread-butter stuff: single player campaign, multiplayer modes and new features, and storyline etc. H3 has got that brilliant community of shared videos of kills, for instance.
So at the moment we can only judge the surface things like graphics, physics, etc. Which are still very important and worth a discussion.
Imo, I think K2 and H3 are going to be both very evenly matched at the very least, judging by current info.

just a little add on, halo 3 you can share vids, and change camera angles to wherever you want to at any time, pause the game etc etc... AND pause it and take a screenshot, and if you have a profile at bungie.net, uploads there so you can take it to B.net and brag about it here on MVC.
Remember, Killzone had many various maps, from dark grey environments to beaches etc. It had a lot of variety there.
All we’ve got so far is that dull grey lifeless (detailess) opening level.
The devs said one of their goals was to recreate famous battles in history thru K2. So, like Killzone, there’s probably going to be a lot of variety of maps, regions, night and day, etc. So it will be interesting then to compare how the PS3 and 360 (or bungie and guerilla) stack up when comparing similar map types...like a daytime outdoors beach scene, and seeing how the textures and vibrancy of detail compare.
That motion blur, which they use very subtley for every single quick movement, just like a panning camera, really aides to K2’s realism more. So that’s something to look out for when we finally see more outdoor scenes and vibrant detail.
