The wii itself is all low tech since the graphics are bad, the memory is little, It uses little power so it cant hadle online games or big rpgs, and they just got the already existant motion scensoring and added a few things to it. Soon people will get bored of the wii and buy somthing with more inovation like the PS3

The PS3 has a lot of ground to make up. If the wii stoped selling games for the rest of the year is it still even possible for the PS3 to catch up in sales by the end of the year?

It won’t(likely) happen. Let’s look at the facts:

PS3 is one of the lowest selling in the top charts in Japan. Its predecessor sells more. Wii is the second from the top, behind the DS and this is only because of Wii shortages.

The Wii, by Fall(or by the end of the year), will have some of its largest games out and its online component running.

The fall season is, by far, the largest part of a console’s year. This is when the so-called “summer drought” ends and people begin to prep up for the holidays. Since the Wii demand is still high (since it still sells considerably, topping the US charts) then it would take a miracle of change to cause it to drop so considerably.

Of course, one can’t deny a miracle may happen. After all, the GCN had the most successful launch last gen, and it didn’t topple against a weaker and more expensive system as well as a newcomer. Nintendo had lost its seat as top game console maker when the Playstation took the reigns. Of course, much of what caused that has been repaired, improved (maybe not totally fixed).

Of course, the fact Hiroshima mentioned third party, which was the two previous' problems, I don’t know how seriously one could take it.
