This sums it up best. \"\"\“You can\'t hook a guy into Xbox LIVE Gold if he\'s playing on a PC,\" continues Pachter. \“That\'s the other problem. You really want to hook every gamer who has a 360, you want them to buy all their games on 360, play everything multiplayer, pay $50 a year, so that in a couple of years, it\'s $100 a year. That\'s going up, we all know that.\"\"\"\"\"
Strange that they are taking frm their PC market. For the money I guess. Still, they break about even with PSN at 20 million people plus.
I wonder how large the PC market is. Its now more modders than anything, but I would think the numbers have not increased as much.
Seriously though, this is a huge possibilitity. And it probably is inevitable.
Of course it will be worth it. See, the Wii online is having issues with content. But Microsoft is continuing to get exclusive stuff. Rumors say Gold will have things from Facebook intregration to much more. PSN is getting upgrades but Sony is not paying companies to supe up the other stuff.
As for PC gamers, I actually think that stealng from the PC market might be a good thing. Microsoft has bigger pockets than Nintendo and Sony combined so as they get more exclusives and do more buyouts, they will probably add more to console than PC.
As for the $100 Gold price, I feel it will be worth it. If they raise it any more after this, then i personally predict seeing Silver get some of the old features of Gold.
This reminds me of the plans for cloud computing gaming. It would have similar prices, but looks like Live is trying to evolve to that point. Sony already sells at a loss so they are not in this. Nintendo - Microsoft should run them bankrupt.
Looking at what Grudges says above ,they are in a position to add more to Live.
Now, I might not know Live too well, being a PSN guy, but...I hear so much about Live, it’s diff versions, this and that....
could the service get to a point where it is worth that much?
Personally, LIVE runs a bit faster and smoother and has a bit more extra features for me (8-way party chats with friends playing different games), but its not worth the $60 a year, never mind $100.
This isn’t new at all, MS has been likely to amp it up since the launch of the 360, but they’ve never said anything at all about it, some random speculation means nothing at all.
If xbox increases their online play price up (there shouldn’t even be an online fee) and with ps3’s price drop, free online, blue-ray and huge GB hard-drive. Xbox wouldn’t have a chance, I doubt xbox is stupid enough to do that. They are already stepping in their grave as we speak, digging deeper.. well good luck with that.

LOL FAIL:
Its more than speculation. And it also has the possibilitiy of happening over a period of time. The analysts who came up with it have discussed it at length on blogs and some sites.
Still, would you pay $100 for live? I would. Although perhaps they shuld move some things to silver.

They have the best chance. They add more and more stuff, and will be able to compete with cloud gaming. Microsoft can finally get the money to then turn around and develop serious dedicated online PC games.
As for PSN, it sells at a loss.
Look at the Wii Online, Nintendo is not doing so good now is it?
Misleading thread name. This is a video game analyst, Michael Pachter, who is predicting that they will probably raise the price. MS responded with a half denial kinda thing but right now nothing like this is going to happen.

Thank you, Zucas.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone with a brain to come in here and put this to rest.
