I saw this last night on GoNintendo, I’m actually surprised that someone hasn’t said anything about this here yet, what with all the fans we have here who like to keep everybody updated.

WiiWare, set to launch early next year, will let players download new games to their Wii consoles using the Wii Points currency already in place for the system’s Virtual Console. While the Virtual Console is focused on delivering retro console classics, WiiWare content will allow developers to release smaller, riskier titles.
“Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “WiiWare brings new levels of creativity and value to the ever-growing population of Wii owners."
It will be interesting to see if Nintendo will be announcing plans for an HDD accessory or another storage solution soon. That 512 MB internal storage does fill up rather quickly. We’ll let you know more about WiiWare when further details are made available.
Seems like it’ll be a lot of fun and probably really expensive.
