My view? We have Activision and Infinity ward, developer and publisher, against Console/Gamemaker Nintento - but the real thing that the Nintendo head is betting on is how many sales Mario has been racking up lately, compared to the Call of Duty series. So far, COD tops Mario if you do the numbers, like COd4 against Galaxy, but...Mario is ..close...kinda..

Although MW2 is going for it’s opening, to break GTA and the Dark Knight...

Although Movies have a funny way of racking up numbers...and GTA...well, I can’t say for that..

but Mario seems steady....but the Wii alone?

Okay, lol, I’ll say it. The Nintendo boss wasn’t going to make a dumb move ,- he said it’d outsell either platform. Not Both combined...

As in, he’s not going to say that the Mario game (for wii) will top both the Ps3 and Xbox360...lol... If he had, it’d be really humorous

Well make sure you don’t misrepresent his argument. He did state that NSMB would outsell ONE of the versions... namely the 360 version. Obviously it’s not a fair challenge if it is all versions. But he stated that New Super Mario Bros Wii by the end of January 2009 will have outsold MW2 on the 360 only.

Also considering he stated NPD, he might only mean the USA... although I think that is putting Mario at more of a disadvantage.


As for the challenge, Mario should have no problems outselling the PS3 version of MW2 alone. However, the 360 version, I don’t think it’ll be able too. By the end of January, sales might be close but I still don’t think Mario has that much of a chance. Unless of course he knows something we don’t (which he does) then it would seem like a losing battle.

Now on a LT Worldwide basis, Mario will easily outsell MW2 on 360 and maybe both versions combined.

If he is talking on a worldwide basis, the key is going to be Japan. Although considering Reggie is the President of NoA it’s hard to really tell.

I would honestly though not count out the PS3. I expct this to have huge PS3 sales, and I personally think they will not be far off from the Xbox360.

On a worldwide scale, you hit it on the news. Its the general concensus that Japan will be the key...

PC gamers- IIRC COD4 was not too good in sales compared to consoles. But that’s probably come to light already due to recent events as we all know.

I will say this for Nintendo, however.
It takes serious balls to stand there and defend a game about plumbers and turtle-things in the face of this:
