Reggie did a conference call earlier today and talked about a number of things. ONe of the things he talked about is Voice Chat on Wii. Luckily it seems Nintendo is not forgetting about it:
Voice Chat on the Wii - It is something that Nintendo cares about. They have worked on that feature for the DS, and they put out the DS microphone. This is proof that they do enjoy the idea. When it comes to Wii, voice chat is definitely possible. There needs to be a peripheral created and finalized. Reggie said he wouldn’t be surprised if this is a feature that would come to the Wii.
Well still in consideration but it’s looking like they will do it. I guess they are just planning it to work in a marketing factor. Possible pack in or something like that.
Well actually it depends how they do it. Because they have the channel setup, they could have it where the voice chat is part of a channel, not the games. Meaning all the games would have to do is just support the channel, and walla a universal chat system that can work in anything that has online support. But I guess that would still take a downloadable upgrade ont eh game from the company but yea.
But there’s multiple ideas Nintendo could do. I hope they go with the centralizing idea, although doubtful.
AS i’ve said b4, with mics u’ll be able to talk to ppl online and want to be their friend but when u try to add them as ur friend u’ll need to know ur 16-digit Friend Code as well as theirs. In the end neither of u add each other and since Wii online doesn’t have a “players List” (where u can see who u recently played with) u still wont be able to add them.
I fear that unless tehy get rid of Friend Codes then the mics may make Wii’s online a lil worse...first u couldn’t talk...but now u can talk and u make friends who u can’t add and will prbly nvr play with again.
I just hope they get rid of Friend Codes and allow us to make names...if tehy dont then Wii’s online (even with mics) will still be the worst out of the 3
Um well it depends how the setup goes. Y aknow. I’m just hoping they start having profiles for onlien games which includes there friend codes. Who knows. Just depends what Nintendo decides to go with. Although the breaking of FC is most likely going to come from a 3rd party, such as with EA and MOHH2.

hoepfully tehy do it soon...i think Ninty should release a firmware package that gets rid of friend codes and allows u to create a name taht will be used on all games (so u dont have seperate friends lists). It’d rlly be a good idea ya know.
nah i always thought ninty has being kool, M$ beign as snobs, and Sony as beign Stubborn. I think Ninty could do it...but if they dont well that’s what i have XBL and PSN for

Nice to see Nintendo still knows how to respond to gamers insights. SSBB was delayed to incorperate a number of wi-fi features, VC may be unlikely though as SSBB is far into development and this was just stated unless it is just rushed out of nowhere then it may get in.
However it will be nice to see some full future online games get VC like if Nintendo is working on wiiware games for Metroid and Zelda as rumored then it would be nice to have more team coordinance if you are doing deathmatchs in whatever the next metroid multiplayer game comes or if you guys need to cooperate in Zelda FS.

AFter reading directly what Reggie said, it almost sounds like they are just finalizing the peripheal right now, and that voice chat is coming. I think we can count on this one boys.
