IGN: Brawl seems like the perfect game to introduce a Wii headset for voice chat. Why have you avoided this?

Masahiro Sakurai: Well, when I first started making Smash Bros. Brawl, I thought it would be wonderful if online battles between friends had voice chat and potentially keyboard based chat as well. But there are all sorts of rules and regulations regarding communication on the Wii platform and so it was apparent to me that it just wouldn’t come together, we weren’t going to be able to do it, so we decided to cancel that feature. I’m very sorry about that. But if you’re really desperate for it, you could set up Skype by your game station and go at it with a friend if you like.

shocked!!!

It seems like it was a prblm with the Wii’s communication system rules and such.

Meaning that it might be tough for a Wii game to ever get a mic sad

It actually means Nintendo has strict policies for internal games. Meaning they want to make it a family oriented, so there is probably a lot of censoring, ect.

This is actually a confirmation that voice chat is coming, its just that to put it in Brawl, the game would have to be delayed even longer, possibly til Summer.

But to talk more on that, the rules and regulations is keeping the Wii family oriented, similar to why they have friend codes. But these things are only for games that or internal, or branded with the Nintendo name. Meaning 3rd parties actually don’t have those restrictions. As soon as a 3rd party wants to step it up, they could give us a normal game with regular voice chat.

But anything out of Nintendo with voice chat, which will come mid 2008, will have a few restrictions and make it so creeps can’t talk to kids. Probably have the mic not a headset ya know, so it can be heard by everyone. Some of the things IGN has said.

Well i hope chat does come. But even with chat Wii needs to get rid of Friend Codes...then it’ll be on the bar with PSN.

dammit...i won’t be getting Brawl on release day guys sad

Condemned 2 comes out about 2 days after brawl and i’ll be heading to pick both of em up on Condemned 2’s release date. That way i don’t have to waist an extra trip to Gamestop.

sad

I did that with Zucas during the MOHH2 tourney and my controller went dead and there was total silence, that is the only reason I would like to use skype.
