Should Xbox live Gold membership be free, or should everything in marketplace be free?

xbl gold shuld be free, but not everything in market place should be free, is there any purpose of using silver? cus the only thing u get is a link to get gold pretty much, but the way microsoft is going they arnt gona make it free cus look at the computers, they are trying to charge us to play halo 2 online on computers!

If Gold was free, that would just triple the members, well atleast lower the price $30 for the 12 month subscription.
