Even though you are not a spartan, it seems like the game really takes some of what Halo 3 did and goes back to the basic gameplay Halo 1 did.
1. Even as an ODST, you can pick up heavier weapons like the Brute shot and Chainguns, and even rip them off, and maybe even move faster.
2. You can hold more grenades then ever, 12 this time instead of 8 at any one given max time.
3. The Brute Plasma Rifle actually works the same as a standard plasma rifle this time, no quick overheating.
4. The health system is retained from the first game, you get stamina which acts as your shield, it will recharge and let you know when you are in trouble by the screen flashing red, like COD.

Ah, so the brute plasma rifle returns.

This sounds pretty interesting. I’d definately buy it, but I think that the ODST kind of 'match' the spartans.
That is just the thing, it would just be a normal shooter with just life and halo run-n-gun gameplay.
The ODSTs is basiclly the same as Master Chief/Spartans from Halo 1, just basiclly no motion sensor that is it.
The Brute Plasma Rifle is back but on youtube there are a few videos of people trying out firefight and it seems that instead of firing faster and overheating faster then the one from halo 2, it works the same as the good old ones from each series.
The M6C/Socom is going to be a favorite weapon because it is the Halo 1 pistol reborn. It also uses the same Ammo the M6D from Halo 1 and M6G from Halo 3 used so most likey, it will be a 5 hit kill on most lower ranking brutes, minors to majors and major elites and brutes were always your equals in terms of life.
The Silenced SMG is going to be very unqiue, full auto and a 2X scope will make it a nice weapon and it has more accuracy but it is weaker then normal so it can serve a nice fit in most situations. The Assault Rifle MA5C from Halo 3 is back in as well but it is there to serve as a more powerful weapon with more range and lower rate of fire.
The Battle Rifle oddly enough is not in the game.
These are the confirmed weapons:
Pistol- same as Halo 3 pistol but with 12 shots, silenced, and scoped.
SMG - SMG with a scope and silencer.
Assault Rifle - Halo 3 AR - same
Shotgun- Shotgun from Halo 3 -same
Sniper Rifle - Sniper Rifle from Halo 3, same
Spartan Laser - same
Rocket Launcher - same
chaingun - same
missle pod - most likey since spartan lasers and rockets are not the only things to attack banshees especially in firefight.
Plasma Pistol- same
Brute Plasma Rifle- works like the orginal one in this game but is red.
Spiker - same
Mauler - same but I wonder if anyone will use it since you cannot dual wield and the shotgun is better then the mauler when only 1 mauler is used, maybe it can hold more ammo?
Needler - same
Covenent Carbine - same, the pistol seems to have taken the place of the BR in this game.
Beam Rifle - same
Fuel Rod Gun - same
Plasma Cannon - same
Brute Shot - same
Gravity Hammer - it is there considering you will fight the same halo 3 covenent enemies like Cheiftans but it is unknown if you can pick them up.
What should be another interesting part of gameplay is when you play as the rookie. When playing as Mickey, Romeo, Dutch, Buck, and Dare you follow the same setup halo has done for years, a level with a start and finish doing objective after objective in numerous ways you want.
When playing as the rookie, being able to move around new mombossa freely in no order should be fun. You can come across a random grunt squad and take them out with no problem and other times you make come across a pair of hunters you may want to avoid entirely especially on legendary were that loved pistol will not be as effective on them as it was in Halo 1 or on lower difficulties for that matter.
The PDA the superintendent gives you has points of interest and you can set your own waypoints like in fallout 3. In the city at night when doing 4 player co-op you can even effectively cordinate attacks with your friends with each being able to set a waypoint and on legendary, you will be able to effectively take out those troublesome hunters.
Also human weapon caches or leftovers should be plentiful as well.
