I just personally don’t like it (and any real RE fan) becuase of what they did to the characters of Chris and Wesker, how they ruined the conspiracy with a weak cliche, and how they turned it from a creepy adventure/puzzler into a slow action game.
It actually isn’t for the main chars (Umbrella chronicles anyone?), it’s for the ending.
Oh, and I didn’t like the new Chris as well. I mean, WTF? Is he onto bovine steroids or something? He’s a fucking ape in the game!
I didn’t see too much of a difference on Wesker, but I sure did LOVE the cliché, as ironic as it seems!
yea Chris’s character was ruined.
And no Wesker’s character was ruined. There had not been much explanation as to why Wesker was doing what he did but that being the answer. I mean it a cheap way of explaining his character and then a cliche way of explaining why. I mean seriously Wesker had always been a complex and interesting character but not anymore.

Yeah RE5 didn’t make much sense.
Favorite quote from RE5: Chris- “Wesker is actually serious about destroying the world!"

Squip- man you are ruining your smart moment. Well can’t say I’m surprised. The RE storyline is one of the best in the industry if not the best. RE4 didn’t let up on that and gave a compelling conspiracy to go along with the first 4 (RE0,1,2<3) and Code Veronica.
RE5 on the other hand completely took all those stories and said screw the conspiracy we are going to ruin Jill, Chris, and Wesker’s character, make it cliche, and end it on a subpar note. The whole setup from RE4 was just completely ruined. All because they ruined the characters.
Don’t get me wrong, RE5 is a fun game to play through. But that’s all it is. Just became an unsual action game with a sublime story for an RE game. Any Resident Evil fan can’t look at that story and be satisfied with it. Because if you are, you are not a Resident Evil fan.
i know you posted this a few days ago, but are you serious? have you even played the first game (Which is my personal favorite)...if anything, RE5 put the series back in place. none of that branching off crap.
FAIL. Talk to me when you actually know and understand the RE series well and then understand why RE5 completely destroys that. Silly goose.
I’ve played every main line RE game except Code Veronica. 0, 1, 2, and 3 all stick to a similar telling story. RE4 works as a spinoff but really sets in motion a way of tying it to the first 3. RE5 came out tied it weakly, changed the characters, and ended it weakly. RE5’s story compared to the rest and how it fits was just bad. And it’s not surprising considering the original creator, Shinji Mikami, had nothing to do with it. Silly goose trying to challenge me on Resident Evil.
SPINOFF??
Dude, with all respect, that wasnt spinoff even if it said in-game.
I mean, just because there isn’t actual zombies doesnt mean it’s not from the main branch!
And YES, RE5 story sucks hard dick, but it’s a great excellent game that every gamer should play.
I think you’re pissed about the genre change from Puzzling-horror game to non-stop action game
RE4 did work as a spinoff but for those who actually played through know how it fits with the rest. Considering the time difference between it and RE3, it really could only have worked that way. RE really could have ended after RE3 if they wanted to.
I’d agree with that about RE5. Still a fun game to play. And no of course I’m not pissed that everything that made Resident Evil games fun was taken away in favor of a slow generic action game such that 360 owners actually could play it becuase they can’t play real games.
I DID play through. The story is not the greatest, but is not that bad. And, since it’s just Leon rescuing Ashley, I understand why it has a spin-off feeling to it. Netherless, it still is part of the main storyline. BTW, I agree with everything else, except that part about RE3. Hell no! There were a lot of unanswered questions in the ending of Code Veronica(Haven’t played 3), it sure as fuck wouldn’t stop there.
All I said is that it could have ended after RE3 but it didn’t for good reason. Because it left the conspiracy still open. RE5 didn’t do that. They pretty much said here’s our shitty ending and deal with it. Kick in the face to any RE fan.
As for RE4 you are saying exactly what I’m saying. It worked as a spinoff but it still connected in many ways to the main line story which is why it could be called RE4.
This is going to my “Epic Quotes” box!
And I agree. If I were in charge of EVERYTHING about the game, I’d leave it the same, but with a tiny change to the story. Firstly, I’d do sort of what Dragon Quest VI did: In chapters, I’d tell complex lines of vision for the same conflict, kind of a more complex RE2. In the end, maybe there could be chars joining up, a big cliffhanger and a space left for RE6, only with some serious change to the story.

We’re the smart-ass riddles?
Where’s the “rich-guy-hiding-something” feeling we had when we saw his cutscenes in RE1?
RE Fan: “Where the fuck is the mystery?"
RE5 Writer: “I think she tripped before RE4! DAMN! Sir, turn around! We have to get her!"
RE5 Director: “Sorry, no hablo english!"

I would call it the Gears of War effect
And I would call YOU a genius.
But there are X-bots here. So I can’t...

RE5 is boring once you beat it. I could go play RE4 right now and have shitloads of fun, but RE5 is not the same. I mean, you beat the game, beat it again, go play the fun levels once or twice, play Mercenaries Mode for a couple hours, and it’s done.
