This is not some topic ment to go to “war”. I want that hole thing to stop. It has gotten out of hand. This thread is something that i thought of long ago and am just now getting to. This is not ment to continue this pitifal war, but rather to take the nitnendo fans out of it and calm it down. I want that whole thing to just blow itself out. Only if something dirastic happens do i want this topic to be used for that reason.

Common arguments and rebuttals:
Use these freely. Eventualy people will get sick of seeing them and stop using the same arguments... hofley.
1. The Wii doesn’t play DVD movies and you have to buy a DVD Dongle/Accessory!
REBUTTAL: DVD players cost $29.99 on average and what would be the point of Nintendo putting in the feature that would force them to add in a hardware DVD decoder and take up space costing them and us more? Even if it was software based I would rather have a DVD player that is hardware based so that my movies can run smoothly.Note: Reggie recently stated on Spike TV that the Wii will be playable “out of the box”
2. The Wii has no HD!
REBUTTAL: It was mentioned last year that at “this” time their would be no HD. The reason is simple, keep costs low and focus on the Blue Ocean because honestly people in this market could care less if it was HD or not. Its only the hardcore gamers that are rambling about the importance of HD. At the same time the Wii offers 480p Progressive Scan (Component) which is much clearer then Standard Definition.
3. The Wii’s graphics suck! Its only 2x GCN who wants that?
REBUTTAL: And was GCN that bad in graphics? How about Resident Evil 4 or the upcoming Zelda TP? Its most likely that the developers got Alpha development kits to work on. Alpha development kits are an early release and are usually weaker then the Beta and Final edition. X360’s Alpha kits were considered “Xbox 120” and the PS3’s kits were rumored to be 10x worse then what its supposed to be. With displacement mapping and other techniques the Wii should be able to deliver. People forget that Nintendo said that the graphics will “WOW” us AND will match Next-Gen consoles.
4. The Wii’s controller sucks!
REBUTTAL: The concept is to get the non-gamers/Blue Ocean etc to be comfortable with the controller. The idea is to make the Wii as user-friendly as possible. Think back to the PC world, compare Windows 3.1 which was more difficult and Windows 95 which offered a user-friendly interface? Big impact. On the other hand its too early to judge so quickly and we’ll need to experience it first hand.
5. The Wii has no Hard Drive!
REBUTTAL: As much as it would be great, the Wii’s size is around 3 DVD cases stacked on top of each other, if this is true a Hard Drive would take up most of the space and the system would be weaker then expected (not to mention heating problems)! On the other hand Nintendo did state it’ll have Flash memory at 512MB and have an SD Slot for extended memory. In fact most people have no use for a Hard Drive. The Hard Drive concept got famous with the Xbox for uploading games after hackers would modify the unit. As regarding to MMO’s on the Wii it may work if developers include an SD card with the game purchase, but it remains to be seen.
6. Wii’s WIFI system sucks and its so slow!
REBUTTAL: We have not seen the system as of yet and have only seen the DS’s version which just started and we are now seeing improvements such as voice chat. The DS was always the testing ground for the Wii. While we can easily make an excuse saying its free, the truth is that Nintendo will be gaining revenue through the Virtual Console downloads and that will most likely provide a stronger WIFI system when reinvested. The biggest advantage we know of that the Wii has over the DS’s WIFI system is that Wii will support 801.11g and theres a chance that it’ll be completely supported to the point that the WIFI connection will be running up to 54mbps instead of the DS’s limit to 11mpbs which means faster online gaming experience.
7. The Wii is a “games-only” system, where are all the X360 features like music etc?
REBUTTAL: We may not know every feature for the Wii but isn’t the point of a Video Game system to BE A VIDEO GAME SYSTEM? Nintendo is sticking to video gaming, even though they may offer “extra” accessories such as the DVD dongle or the Play-Yan, Nintendo will continue to dedicate itself to pure gaming. If people want a total solution from DVD’s to MP3’s to Video Gaming to Digital Camera Images and a whole lot more they should stick to the PC or even better yet get a Media Center PC (which I have on my HDTV).
8. Nintendo Wii is so weak!
REBUTTAL: We may not ever know of the actual specs but by far people have a misconception that the system is so weak. First off the X360 and PS3 need alot of power to also handle non-gaming software while the Wii being a “games-only” system doesn’t! Secondly, Nintendo is the most famous gaming company for getting away with alot of power with using “small” specs. Think about the Nintendo 64, compare it to PC games of those days it was for a time actually superior to the PC and the system had less then 100mhz and had 4MB of memory! Even a game like Duke Nukem 3D worked on the Nintendo 64 while the PC you needed at least 8mb of ram!
9. Blue Ocean sucks!
REBUTTAL: Most people may not even know what Blue Ocean is really about and would take pages to discuss how much of an amazing strategy it is. Its about gaining “untapped” markets and creating “high profitable opportunties”. The idea is to gain market share through innovation and cutting costs which we know Nintendo is a master at. If Nintendo does not use this strategy and decides to go with a “GCN 2” (an updated GCN with HD etc), Nintendo would not be able to bring balance to the market and the “red ocean” would still turn in favor of Sony who dominated in the fifth generation (71%) and the sixth generation (65%) and possibly Microsoft would gain share since they have an earlier advantage. Why is that so? Nintendo has the “kiddy” image that haunts them and not going ahead with the Wii and the Blue Ocean strategy would mean doom for Nintendo in the long run.3
10. Who wants to play old classics and pay for games we once paid for?
REBUTTAL: Its called Nostlagia. You see if you look at other industries such as the world of World Wrestling Entertainment. The industry was seeing problems and you ended up seeing classic superstars making a comeback which worked and the WWE ended up with the creation of the WWE 24/7 On Demand which is a wrestling channel (think Virtual Console) where you can watch classic matches and has been proven to be a success that it has already reached Canada. The point is that Nostlagia really works, there are still many people in the 20’s and 30’s that gave up gaming or are just casual gamers but would infact love to experience the past. Xbox Live Arcade is also living proof that classic games with even improvements work well.
11. Don’t buy the Wii right away it may have bugs!
REBUTTAL: Historical evidence suggests that Nintendo is a master of keeping bugs away from launch date for there consoles. I had purchased systems like Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo DS on launch date and never had any problems. The issue with the Xbox 360 having bugs was because it was a rushed console and Microsoft had to get it out way before the competition.
12. Whats with Nintendo trying to get Seniors interested?
REBUTTAL: Sure theres typical remarks like “yah sure like my grandma is gonna play Nintendo”, but while the DS has actually proven to have some seniors interested theres a big problem, the seniors market is going to get larger over the years. 12.9%; of Americans are Seniors, eventually this will grow to at least 25%; within the next decade which would mean trouble for the current industry. The biggest reason this is happening is because the Baby Boomers are aging and their children will soon follow. Whats interesting is that the average gamer is also aging. The average gamer is 30 years of age in the US which means many of these gamers may continue to still play games possibly into the 50’s since most have been playing for at least 10 years of there life.
13. Why is Nintendo using dual-layer DVD’s instead of HD-DVD’s!
REBUTTAL: As of now dual-layer DVD’s are a standard and there is a good reason why they’ll keep it this way. For one instance the cost of the “disc” will be in the pennies to the dollar compared to HD-DVD’s which would most likely cost developers alot more to place there games on which would also result in the consumer paying more. Secondly if you look at the “DVD” industry, the cost for an HD-DVD player as of now is $450-799 and compare that to the average DVD Player which costs $30. This means HD-DVD and Blu-Ray won’t be a standard till at least 4-5 years down the road which would mean the end of the average life cycle of a video game console. While HD-DVD may hold at the most 45GB’s of information developers can still manage to gather 3-6 DVD’s for a massive game and still would save them money over developing on HD-DVD discs.
14. No HD means HDTV owners are left out!
REBUTTAL: Not necessarily true at all, HDTV’s have Component video (green, blue, red) support and many of them have Composite (yellow) which was a standard for a long time to the point that Nintendo even had Composite output on there Nintendo Entertainment System. I have an HDTV that would even support cable input! So HDTV owners are not left out since Wii is confirmed to have Enhanced Definition (480p) support for better quality then Standard Definition.
15. Pricing too low means its just a toy!
REBUTTAL: Nintendo stated that the Wii will be priced below the cost of an X360 but it doesn’t mean it’ll cost the same as the current Gamecube price. When the N64 first came out there was a problem, as much as the graphics were unbelievable for a system at the time the price was too high when it started out. Most people decided to stick with a Playstation because it offered something else, gameplay. N64 could not capture the market at only 23%. In this Next-Gen its the total reverse, PS3 will offer the most amazing graphics seen on a console to date with an expensive price, but Wii will offer the best gameplay and the most affordable price. Nintendo is learning from the mistakes of the past. On the other hand with the “kiddie” image that haunts Nintendo, the price will have to be satisfactory, above $99 and below $299. It also makes way for Sony and MS gamers to purchase a Wii at such an affordable price as there secondary console.
16. Nintendo shouldn’t keep secrets!
REBUTTAL: As the past record has shown, Nintendo will have to keep secrets till at least its unveiling. Theres a big reason for that, Nintendo was the first to come out with component video on the NES, the first to come out with a rumble pack, the first to introduce a hard drive (N64DD only available in Japan), the first to introduce the analog stick, the first to introduce the wavebird wireless controller and so on. The reason why Sony managed to dominate the last two generations was because in order to become successful you had to “copy and expand” the best of the best in the industry. They did just that with including rumbling in there controller instead of buying an accessory pack and so on. Microsoft did the same (HDD etc) and managed to barely beat Nintendo in this current-gen (by 5%). Nintendo is learning from this mistake and wants to make sure that there ideas are not used so they can “copy” there own ideas and “expand” on it.
17. Nintendo shouldn’t do a world-wide launch, look at what happened to MS!
REBUTTAL: MS while having shortages is a completely different story. They rushed the console to get into the market and what resulted in Japan was that the people there are not interested in a Microsoft console that not even Final Fantasy for the X360 could intice gamers in Japan. Nintendo is going ahead with a world-wide launch even if its up to 14 weeks in difference between console. Nintendo has done a global launch (14 week period) with the Nintendo DS and came out successful. Today Nintendo DS is the #1 best selling gaming handheld in the world.
18. PS3 will destroy Wii because it’ll have alot more games!
REBUTTAL: While it is true that the gaming library for PS2 was gigantic compared to Xbox and GCN there are factors to remember. Firstly there are rumours going around that the PS3 is more difficult to work with all the technology thats involved. Secondly majority of games on the PS2 were in fact games that nobody even liked and there is practically no big platform title for the PS2 and the greatest games on the system were GTA, GT4 and mostly RPG titles. In fact Xbox had GTA, Forza (much better then GT4) and is now going to carry more RPG’s for the 360. And finally, Wii’s Virtual Console is going to gather a classic library of titles which should help the Wii as a whole and not to mention many major developers and even smalltime developers are jumping on board.
19. No matter what, games like Mario will still make Wii kiddy!
REBUTTAL: While Nintendo does have this issue of the “kiddy” image, Nintendo with its Blue Ocean strategy should be able to intice everyone regardless. The new controller concept should be able to even get hardcore gamers interested in trying out the technology even if they seemed like “kiddy” titles. We have to remember that Mario is one of the best selling games of all time, Super Mario 1 was the most sold game of all time and Super Mario 3 grossed in almost half a billion and was the most sold standalone title ever. In fact Nintendo makes the best games overall. Zelda: Ocarina of Time was the best game ever made, games like Metroid Prime got a 9.8 avg score, even Pikmin 1 and 2 got 9.0+ and so on. In fact we may be seeing more non-kiddyish Nintendo titles such as Zelda TP, Metroid Prime 3 to hopefully Kid Icarus to brand new franchises in development.
20. Wii will not get sports gamers!
REBUTTAL: EA being the largest developer in the world and usually makes the best sports games recently announced there support for the Wii. One may say “big deal” well in fact it actually is. Last year at E3, EA said they don’t even want to bother with Nintendo to the point that they pretty much had the attitude that Nintendo would come in third again. After TGS 2005 everything changed. EA found a loss of 31% and now has to layoff employees not to mention the fact is sports games can get pretty tiring (mostly for casual gamers) since its been same style of gameplay since the beginning. Wii on the other hand offers sports gamers a totally different style of gameplay. For example a game like MLB (Major League Baseball) 2007 which should be out by the end of the year would most likely be released on all three consoles. The question comes to mind, what version would someone rather go with, MLB for the X360 and PS3 offering HD graphics or Wii still offering graphics that match the competition and getting to swing the Wii Controller when up for bats or pitching using the remote that can even test your speed of the throw? The answer is obvious.
21. Whats with the shell its stupid and how does it make it Wiiary?
REBUTTAL: Not as much as known about the shell or how it will look like so its not right to conclude so early. While some may say “it’ll take away the originality of the remote” I would disagree. First off the remote is the consoles official remote and the shell is mostly for hardcore gamers when you think of it, secondly the shell may infact be an optional accessory and thirdly, it gives a chance for developers to consider using the familiar technology for there games if necessary. The shell actually is Wiiary in a certain aspect since Mr. Iwata himself stated that not also would it be similar to a traditional controller but be able to use the remotes technology. So imagine Mario Kart for example the controller may give out a better feel of driving the kart instead of just using the remote itself. Best to leave the subject for another time.
22. The size of the Wii is too small!
REBUTTAL: In fact if you take a look at the nature of some electronic devices and its consumers, you’ll find that most people would love smaller devices. Think about the DVD player for example, there alot more tiny then they were originally which makes more room for portability in a household. The DS for example is getting a lighter/brighter/smaller edition and it may become successful like the GBA had the SP edition. Compare a regular iMac and the iMac Mini, the mini is so much cooler and tiny, it’s in a way similar to the Wii’s design and while it offers portability its also a powerhouse. Another way to think of it the size may “WOW” anyone as they would begin to wonder “how do they get all this technology inside such a small unit? ".
23. Its all just Hype!
REBUTTAL: As with any console, hype is always going to be there. While we don’t have the Wii around to play with at the time of this writing, the only ones we can mostly put trust into besides Nintendo are its third party developers. If you saw how developers are jumping on board its pretty amazing. Companies like EA who once thought the Wii was pretty much a joke now jumps on board after Nintendo reveals the controller. Companies such as Sega has shown alot of interest and rumours suggest that they are making a special Sonic game for the Wii instead of porting it from X360/PS3. Also other rumours suggest that Sega is interested in the “Virtual Console” and it would be surprising to see this actually happen. Companies like Ubisoft has shown there support and has announced titles from Ghost Recon/Splinter Cell to Killing Day (FPS) and two other untitled shooters! Even smalltime developers have become very interested in the system. And theres a reason for all this, theres money to be made and the Wii will most likely bring in something fresh and innovative to the video gaming world.
24. Wii WIFI is going to cause problems becasue no one understands it!
REBUTTAL: Wii WIFI connection will be a free service that Wii owners will be able to access through the Internet through either a Wireless Router or the Nintendo WIFI USB Connector for the PC. A Broadband ISP connection is required however we have not heard much about whether 56k users can at least download virtual console games although it may cause a problem of bandwidth issues overall. A recent advertisement promoted Nintendo WIFI in the UK that lets everyone know it was for multiplayer gaming so it will be fairly clear as the months come by before launch as to what the system is. In fact Nintendo did an excellent job with promoting the DS WIFI connection in movie theatres last year and most people understood what it was. No worries here.
25. Wii got the controller idea from Sony’s Wand!
REBUTTAL: Obviously not true. In fact Nintendo had the idea of the controller during the days of “Project Dolphin”. At the same time it was meant to be a GCN accessory, but Nintendo decided to make it the primary controller for a next-gen console.
26. Wii will have a terrible launch like DS!
REBUTTAL: There is no evidence of this as yet. Sure Nintendo has mentioned Super Smash Bros Wii and Metroid Prime 3 with online capabilities and the possibility of Super Mario Wii. But the fact of the matter is with possibly 200 Virtual Console games at launch, games like Zelda: Twilight Princess for the GCN and a library of GCN titles that should still be around at retail stores at launch, gamers and even non-gamers will be busy playing with Nintendo’s newest console. The price also is a factor since it is considered the cheapest of the three consoles and with the Blue Ocean strategy and hopefully a release date far from PS3, expect a Wii to happen.
27. The Wii Remote is similar to the PowerGlove which failed!
REBUTTAL: The PowerGlove was released in 1990, while the technology “looks” similar there were a few things to consider. First off the PowerGlove was a creation of Mattel, a toy company and not Nintendo. Secondly there was an issue of too many buttons and the controls were only really made for specific titles, although it worked with other titles it had its issues and was too early of a technology to explore. Thirdly, its been at least 16-18 years since the technology was in development and now we have 3D graphics that should offer better accuracy in gaming, bluetooth technology for high-end wireless connection and far more advanced motion sensing technology that Nintendo has been expirementing with since “Project Dolphin”.
28. You would look stupid using the controller! The controller ad proves it!
REBUTTAL: President Iwata had already said the ad was an exaggeration, basically the ad was created to give an idea of possibilities with the Wii controller. Not everyone is going to stand all the time for each game doing all sorts of actions or fly across the room to shoot the bad guy. Most people can still sit on there couch and relax even a bit distant away from the TV and be able to play games easily and would look at a lot more casual then people would actually think! Now think about traditional controllers, when gamers are playing a great video game they “twist” they “turn” or “jerk” the controller and there whole body in most cases!
29. You’ll physically hit others in your household when you move around the controller!
REBUTTAL: Ever had trouble in a game? Ever lost badly in a game? I’m sure people have thrown tradional controllers to the ground or at there older sibling!
30. Wii controller will make gamers more voilent with FPS’s and so on!
REBUTTAL: Violence in video games has always been an issue. However there are more problems in our society that actually influence voilence. For example, more people are into action films, television and music then just video gaming and its usually this type of medium that influences what we “should wear” how we should “act” what defines being “cool” what is “right and wrong” and most of this influences younger people. In fact you can almost say nowadays people are letting others think for them rather then think for themselves, sounds like a nightmare, but when it comes to violence in video games its only a fraction of what causes violence and other acts and is a large debatable topic all together. Nintendo has always been more adapted to video games that are not too extreme and they will continue to do so. Mature titles do not have to have be “extreme”, but requires
31. There are going to be way too many attachments for specific titles and its going to cost us more!
REBUTTAL: We have not heard about many of the attachments that will be out but can only really imagine. While we know about the Remote, Shell and Nunchuku, most games in fact may only require the Remote. The idea of the shell is to provide a more traditional sense for traditional gamers but it will be an optional accessory, as for the Nunchuku it will be included with the Wii console and would be perfect for FPS games. The attachments/add-ons are pretty much optional but even if it will cost you more think about a game like Zelda Wii, wouldn’t it be amazing to have a sword type of attachment where you place the remote in the handle and swinging it around as if you were Link? Regardless the Wii will still be the most affordable next-gen system even with all the games, remotes, attachments and accessories.
32. How can one actually expect to adapt to this new Controller? Its too new and may frighten gamers!
REBUTTAL: If you were to ask a PC gamer 20 years ago to try a game with a mouse they would have literally laughed at you. At the time it sounded ridiculous, sure there may have been games like Sim City or Brickles with the mouse but it was still pretty new and for some today there are a few people out there thinking the Wii controller also sounds ridiculous. But what happened with gaming with a mouse? It helped FPS’s flourish, real-time strategy games to be born that would create the best PC games ever such as Warcraft and Age of Empires, and by teaming up with the keyboard it allowed for an exciting gaming experience. Technically the Remote is just like the “Mouse” while the Nunchuku/Shell is kinda like the “Keyboard” but even PC gamers have begun to find interest in the Wii because it’ll offer stronger accuracy and more exciting gameplay then even using a mouse! In fact the Controller is not just bringing in console gamers but also the one big market thats been fairly hard to reach, the PC Market! Like anything new the best thing to do is to try out the remote, I am sure that even if you take an hour of your time you’ll adapt. It is the future of console gaming.
33. PS3 is going to win because MMO’s are the future and the Flash Memory + SD Cards may not be enough!
REBUTTAL: It is true that MMO’s are taking the gaming world by storm. But there has to be reasons for Nintendo to also add “USB Ports” to the Wii. You see the Xbox didn’t even have a USB Port and while the PS2 had it, it was used for accessories such as a “wired” headset but that was probably the most important aspect of it. Now think about USB technology today, there is 2.0 offering faster speed and thousands of different devices now have USB support. What does USB have to do with MMO’s? In the PC world you are seeing a rise in sales for “External” Hard Drives which use the USB port. They are becoming pretty popular, in fact they are almost as good as an internal HDD, or even better. You might ask how is that possible? Internal HDD’s today are beginning to burn up pretty rapidly which causes heat problems in PC’s or you would need a HDD cooler to keep it at level but its usually not enough. With an External HDD you won’t have to worry too much about all the heat and it has an enclosed case for cooling. Its expected that Nintendo will offer this opportunity, whether or not you have to buy a Nintendo model or that any External HDD would do MMO’s shouldn’t be an issue at all.
34. Sony and Microsoft will have better developer support in the long run! Bye Bye Wii!
REBUTTAL: While Sony has managed to be successful with developer support in the past and while Microsoft has gained good grounds for the X360 with even developers such as Square Enix, Nintendo has currently seen of rise of major developer support for Wii from EA to Ubisoft to Activision to Blitz and even small-time developers. But the issue is which system is it best to support in the long run? EA for example is the largest developer in the world and provides one of the largest libraries of sports titles. But because the Wii controller offers motion sensing technology, EA may infact provide more support for its titles since Wii is offering something much more fresh where games like baseball would be alot more fun to play with then on a traditional controller. On the other hand theres another issue, since the PSOne days we have seen a rise of piracy which infact made a large impact that actually helped sales of Sony and MS consoles. The biggest question is who will provide anti-privacy support? Nintendo has always been the best to handle piracy, while “roms' exist the Virtual Console will be a big help but as for “modification” Nintendo is going to continue to insure it doesn’t happen on its console and it is rumored that the dual-layer DVD’s will be of a propriety media. The big question is would a developer rather make money or lose money in the long run?
35. Gamecube came in #3 and no matter what Wii will do the same!
REBUTTAL: Its actually untrue. In fact while at the time of this writing the latest statistics show Gamecube at 20 million sales and the Xbox at 22 million sales, it may seem that Xbox came out the victor. However the misconception that people have is that they don’t realize how the statistics was given out. Nintendo gave out “Actual” retail sales figure while Xbox gave out “Shipped” to retailers figure. If you go to any retail store you’ll literally always find an Xbox, and there are many that you can pick up, which means they haven’t been sold as yet. This also means that Gamecube may in fact come in #2 overall! If you also take a look at Zelda: Twilight Princess which is still considered to be on the Gamecube as the last great game, not to mention its one of the most anticipated titles of the year, it should be able to increase sales.
36. Nintendo is just a kiddy company!
REBUTTAL: Just becouse a game looks... different... doesen’t mean it is kiddy. Ever herd the frase, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well, that applies very well here. For a game to be kiddy, it also has to be very easy to beat. For most games from nintendo, a little kid would get mad, throw the controler on the ground, and go play halo so they can actualy beat a game. Halo is not at all a chalanging game. That would make it a kiddy game. Though wind waker looks kiddy, it is a very chalanging game. If you have ever played it, you would know that. Same goes for super mario sunshine. It looks kinda kiddy, but it is very chalanging and fun. __________________

Well the old saying goes, “If you don’t learn from history then you are doomed to repeat it." And I believe everyone agrees with this.
So now we see that this happens all the time that people don’t learn from their mistakes. And the upcoming console race is a great example. History says a lot and right now History is backing up Nintendo. Read my post I wrote yesterday and maybe you’ll shed a new light on the areas of graphics, Nintendo, and a revolution in gaming. All are covered in this post and opens up a new way at looking and after reading this analysis I think you’ll agree and maybe see how the Revo just may have the advantage in the most important area, GAMEPLAY. And then you may not be dissappointed in Nintendo not having the horsepower as the competition. So enjoy and give me feedback:
Well above a lot of Nintendo bashing I think the misinformed infor be blurted out is propostorous. Please if it is an opinion or rumor please state that. Matt is just an editor and he knows apsolutely nothing abou the real specs or anything. But he is a very good source for info and a big Nintendo fan.
Now if you want a arrow to the heart check out these Hollywood or GPU for the revo’s rumored specs. They are pretty good:
http://www.connectrevolution.com/version2/igaming/index.php?do=viewarticle&id=45
Well above everything let us go over something. Why do people play games. Well there is one reason and one reason only. For entertainment right. Well what provides entertaiment. Well that is easy the games. And what makes a game good. Well that is another easy one. Well whay makes the gameplay good. Well the storyline and originality.
So if we look at everything down to the smallest bit that 100% of gamers play games because of the gameplay. So really saying that a system is going to fail cause it doesnt' have the right hardware but has made a big innovation towards gameplay is as yall would say hyppocritical right. So yes hardware improvements need to be made but what is that going to get you in the game. Well except some nice visuals and a few better game designs not really anything noticeable while you are playing the game.
Let us take Tetris for a sec. This game is one of the most popular games even today. And yet it was released with no graphically good performance yet sold 33 million units. Well they weren’t buying it for graphics so why did they buy it. Well duh. They bought it cause it had the most addictive gameplay ever.
So if this is what sales a game then why aren’t companies such as MS and Sony focusing on gameplay the most. Shouldn’t they be doing that the most rather than hardware.
Well this might explain maybe a reason why gaming popularity has gone down. The best selling year was the year with only 8 bits the primitive graphics compared today. So why did that sale. Well probably sold because didn’t have to work on graphics just gameplay and originality is all they worked one.
So that explains something now. Ever since the grahpics get more powerful the less and less of game console sales there are. So what this is saying when the graphics go up the less and less amount of innovative and compelling gameplay is put into the game. So basically companies are thinking if they make a visually good-looking game then they will have a good game.
This is a reason why gaming has declined because not enough innovative and compelling games made. You’ll see a few every now and then but not enough.
So you ask yourself why gaming is going down and the real problem is hardware. So is hardware that is good neccesarily a good thing. It’s okay but it is making the developers lazy cause they think visuals are everything. But if we look at history that ain’t the case. The best-selling games are the ones that are the oldest and less-graphically visual.
So you look at the future generation and you look at history. And you think which way would you go. Well history tells you the bettering of hardware means worse sales. And I’ve already explained why. So then we stand here and critisize Nintendo’s concept and controller and way of going about this gen and historically accurate in the gaming market there way does exactly what history tells them to do. That is make gaming the way it was when you had the NES and Sega consoles.
So overrall everything comes back to games and if hardware as history has proved doesn’t sale games then there is a problem. And if we keep seeing hardware as the answer to the declines then you aren’t learning from history that says hardware is what is causing games to decline. But if we make the games better and the gameplay better and more thrilling then we will have sales like the NES days. So innovation and improvement to gameplay is where all attention should be focused.
So point being hardware is good to improve on but how much will it matter in the final product. Apsolutely no where. It ain’t going to matter. Someone could release an 8 bit game right now and if its gameplay is amazing that game will sale like hotcakes. But if you allow the developers to have alot of hardware they’ll get lazy and not make a good gameplay but a good visual.
So Nintendo’s controller is trying to go where history says it should go. Good hardware is causing bad gameplay and as we say everything comes down to the games. If the gameplay ain’t good then no one will buy it. So good hardware=bad games.
Yet average hardware meaning improvements enough to be a good improvement but a legendary change in a way of playing this just gives an overral new excitement. AS gannon said that gaming was better in the NES cause more good games were being created and this explains why.
So Nintendo’s route is actually the right path. Change and surprise is what gamers want or else if we keep following the same path as MS and Sony are doing gaming will fail in at the most 10 years. Gaming can only be saved by games and the games need to be new and original like the were in the NES days.
ONLY the REVOLUTION offers this and because of that you may finally see how wonderful this is. Hardware only will be the destruction of gaming. But gameplay improvements will be the savior of it. Nintendo has the right route and if history is correct it will be a big success.
This is why Nintendo chose the controller and history says it will work. You should shed new light guys cause this analysis is just wondeful. And yes I did write this so give thanks later. This will open a new way of thinking on Nintendo’s strategy and maybe you can see how good of a way it really is.
So thank you I give credit to gannon for helping me see this. OH and sorry for the length but take time to read it or you will never understand the advantage the controller really gives and why gaming needs a Revolution and why the regular way of gaming is destroying the market.
A REVOLUTION IS COMING. REVOLUTION DAY. JUNE 6, 2006
Well this makes perfect sense and I think that it is just a different way of thinking. This is Nintendo’s strategy and history is backing them up. If history is correct, which it always is, then Nintendo has an upmost advantage in the biggest area of all, gameplay.
this is his first dr. package update.

I feel really awful about last week, so to make up for it here’s something really good: enough with the fake 3D Studio-rendered Nintendo Revolution controllers— enough. Here’s the scoop on what the big deal is. It’s revolutionary in the same two senses that controller rumble is/was revolutionary: first, it’s kind of actually not a huge deal, but controllers will eventually all have it because it is pretty neat; and second, it involves revolving. Simply, the Revolution controller will provide resistance to being tilted. No doubt this is done by some application of a tilt sensor such as the one in WarioWare: Twisted combined with rumble technology. After all, rumble is just done by some off-balance widgets inside the controller spinning really fast. If they were balanced, they could provide enough rotational inertia— the same thing that makes bikes and motorcycles harder to tilt the faster they’re going— to perform this trick. The “could” is why Nintendo hasn’t come out with it yet. Yeah, they say they don’t want it to be copied, which is valid because I’m sure it will be, just not anytime soon. What’s really happening is Nintendo is trying to make this work with wireless controllers, finding the optimal tradeoff between spinning the widgets fast enough to produce a good, strong effect and keeping the controller from eating batteries too quickly. Oh, and it has to be cheap and reliable, too. Why this isn’t just another Revolution rumor: I’m hurt, I really am. You think I would do that to you? Well, even if you don’t believe me this time, I’m betting you will in the future. So there.
Ladies and gentlemen, this man has revealed part of the revolutionary feature of the controllers. The “Revolution” controller will feature weight detection with gyroscopic sensors. Consider this to be the first HUGE news bomb. Now that I’m not responsible for the leak, I’ll go into a few details. When the words “weight detection” come to mind, don’t worry - it’s not like a scale or anything. Like this guy said, the sensors can determine how difficult or easy it is to turn an object in real time gameplay. There is a game in the works right now that revolves around this very feature. I’m not sure how reliable the poster of this newbreak is, but he hit it almost dead on. Lucky guess perhaps? We’ll see.
So basically this dude knows that the controller was going to have tilt controller and gyroscopes. So your probably thinking anyone could have guessed that. Well sure but this next part was on no one’s mind 6 months ago.
Post made: August 25th, 2005
I want to divulge more into the design of the controller. Following the previous update, I’m sure the controller sounds fairly complex. Any follower of the “Revolution” knows, Nintendo is interested in appealing to more than just hardcore gamers. I’m not necessarily talking about appealing more to the teenage demographic, don’t worry. They want more older folk, casual gamers and females to show interest in their product. One of their big points was the complexity of the present day game controllers. For instance, take a look at the Xbox or even the Gamecube controller. Put yourself in the prespective of someone who doesn’t play any games (or are only familiar with basic games such as Pong or Pacman). Simply put: it looks confusing. Very, very confusing. Nintendo believes this plays a role in turning off non-gamers.
So what does this have to do with the new controller? Think simple. Don’t overwhelm yourself in the gyroscopic technology being implemented. This is but a feature. A hidden feature. The gyroscopic features aren’t visible buttons or anything of that nature. Another thing I want you to think over is how exactly Nintendo can incorperate great gameplay and feel with their older games via downloads. What would a super controller look like if it was relatively simple? I’ll branch off into this on the next update. You may have seen something similar before...
Well now it is interesting ain’t it. My source has directly guessed that the revo controller will have gyroscopes, tilt controller, and a simple design. And as he described it the design will be something you have seen before. Well that is automatically inferring the remote. This dude was dead on. He knew exactly what the controller was. That is how I found out that this dude has been saying everything correctly so he has an inside source. So now it is safe to say that he is trustworthy.
Now let us go over other things he has said that is about correct. He confirmed that SEGA games would be for download on the Nintendo Revolution. Well Reggie just about confirmed that in an article today so legit again.
Okay still don’t believe me. Well this dude not only confirmed the controller directly he also stated that there would be 2 controllers. Hence the remote and the conventional. Now no one would have guessed that. So that is proof enough.
Okay now on to what everybody wants to hear. You all believe me that this source really does know an inside source and everything he said is legit? Well now you want to know what he said so you can see exactly what is going on with our favorite console the Nintendo Revolution. Well I’ll list what he says is on there and what isn’t right below here:
1. Okay for the first one everyone has heard of Futurna. You know the stereoscopic 3d project. Well it is fake. Nothing but false rumors. He stated that.
2. He also confirms why Nintendo hasn’t released specs of the console and game screens yet. He says the reason is that the presentation of the games themselves is revolutionary. Maybe meaning all of the PPU’s, all the mapping things, or maybe Virtual reality. Well we’ll get to VR later.
3. He says that Wifi is going strong and Nintendo are really pushing it to the limits
4. He says that in early developement is an MMORPG set in the Mario universe. He said this to show how good Wifi will be. He said that there is a strong possibility this gaem will be canned but still going to say it
5. He said there will be an African-American starring in one of the earlier launch games for the Revolution.
6. He says that the redesign of the DS will be revolutionary.
7. He said that one of the things that is revolutionary was supposed to be revealed this year but of course matter change. So I guess that changed. But this was all back in November when he said it.
8. He says that Nintendo’s online will be huge. I don’t if he means by greatness or playability but hopefully both. Goes back to the Xenias rumors with the large multiplayer out of an MMO.
9. The new Super Smash Bros. game is called Super Smash Bros. Allstars.
10. He said the Revolution online will have leaderboards.
11. Nintendo wants to have huge worldwide contest or tournaments for the new and old games. So suggesting that all the old games will playable online against your friends
12. He says that 56k support will be half supported while Broadband will be fully supported. 56k online will have most games playable on it.
13. He says that Nintendo will probably stick with the codename as being the real name, Nintendo Revolution.
14. He says there is a third-party game in development right now that is supposed to be a system seller.(When he means third-party he means literally a 3rd party but one that is making an exclusive so really a 2nd party.) But anyways he says that it is a cross between and FPS and an intense action game. He says the single player is wonderful but the mulitplayer is revolutionary itself. He says that that you’ll be able to meet up with gamers around the world and trade items, weapons, gadgets, ect. and that the items will be region-specific items. This game sounds a lot like Guts n Glory.
15. Confirms that Sega games will be available through download of the virtual console.
16. He says it is possible to have a system that isn’t as powerful but produces some amazing graphics comparable to others. Hinting the theory of the visor, PPU, and mapping things.
17. He says that the Revolution menu is non-gamer friendly. He says it is really easy to use. He describes the menu as very clean and sleek and kinda like a spiraling blue light.
18. He says that Nintendo has taken note of the mockup of a Revolution with the NES design. Everyone remember that pic. Well he claims that it will see a limited release. Sweet.
19. The name of the system has changed quite a bit. I started of at Nintendo Next, then Nintendo Revolution, then Nintendo Shiftbox, then Nintendo Shift, and finally back to the Revolution where it is supposed to stay.
20. Says that Super Mario 128 was shown at TGS to a select developers. Says was supposed to be shown to the public but had a planned technical difficulty to prevent that.
21. He said there is undiclosed peripheal to be shown sometime next year. He calls it “the big one”. Most likely the secret Miyamota was talking about.
22. He claims that there is plenty of 3rd party support unlike what others are saying. Says that a lot of third parties will make addons to the revo controller to go with a specific genre or single game. BUT KEY IS PLENTY OF 3RD PARTY SUPPORT.
23. A handful of developers new what the revo controller was at E3. I’m guessing Sega, Namco, Capcom, EA, Ubisoft, and THQ.
24. He says the ultimate peripheal," or the big one” will work great with the new Samus game.
25. He says several major games are in developement for the revo but just simply haven’t been announced yet. Well once again puts down the old rumor for no games on revo.
26. He says that developers who make multiplatform games will actually put special features in the revo one cause of the controller and other things. So hence that the revo controller is no problem with multiplatform games.
27. He says that the final prototype of the revo is yet to be shown. And he says it is not the one we saw at E3. So revo design has changed. Interesting.
28. He says that the Mario 128 game will take a whole new direction and look. With tons of new characters.
29. He says Nintendo has chosen a new route with online gaming. Interesting.
30. He says you can download alot more than just classic games of the internet on the revo. Hence the demos and trailers for download.
31. He says there is nothing cooler than inserting a disc into the revolution and hearing the sweet chime noise it makes
32. He says the system is small, shiny, and sleek. He is describing the newer version not the one at E3.
33. Before Nintendo said it he confirmed that Revo will not be as powerful as the PS3. But then he says that games will look beautiful on the revo but he says power and graphics does not make top notch games and gameplay. That is definite truth.
34. He says that Seriousgamer007 is a fake but he has guessed quite a few things that are right. But my source did not clarify the things he guessed right of course.
35. Nintendo is already marketing and hiring other to market the revolution with that lates add with the whole gamer thing will be getting a revo and everything.
36. He says that after hearing a lot of info about the revo that the system is out of this world.
37. Okay now what everyone wants to hear. My source knows if Nintendo ON is real or not but yet he won’t tell us. But he does say that indeed Pablo Belmonte did make it and Nintendo did not. But on this subject my source is basically confirming. One the way he wrote it was like he was saying yes. And two if Pablo made it then it would be obvious that it would be false but if it was false he would have told us so. But if it isn’t and Pablo made it then he would keep us guessing. So he basically says that Nintendo ON is a real project.
38. He says Super Mario 128 will be on both platforms but doesn’t disclose how.
this is his secont dr. package update.
zucas wrote:
39. Okay unlike my original June 6, 2006 date release my source does say that the Revolution will see a Thanksgiving release. I’ve got a lot of explaining to do about that but later. But Thanksgiving 2006 is what it looks like will be the release date of the Revoluiton. Unluckily my source did not clarify if this for American or Europe.
40. He said that the Revolution will be inexpensive. He said between $150-$200 price range. Very affordable for anyone.
41. He also clarified that the PS3 would be very powerful but with a price that comes with it of somewher between $400-$500 price range. Ouch that is expensive.
42. He said that Wi-fi is going very well which is inspiring Nintendo even more to make it really big on the Revolution. He is just saying that Wi-fi on the Revolution will be big.
43. He says that Nintendo has experimented with the visor possibility. So Nintendo has really thought of the visor being on the revo but didn’t clarify if the visor is or isn’t on the revo.
44. He also said that Nintendo experimented with a very advanced power glove but once again did not clarify if it is or isn’t for the revo.
45. He also said that Nintendo have taken various rumors into consideration. He said that Nintendo has deeply looked into the ON rumor because of all the hype and everything it has gotten. My source directly said that the ON video has as he would say inspired Nintendo. (Now what more hints do you need to not believe that this dude is suggesting Nintendo ON is real or at least a visor project)
46. Another maybe disappointing news is that he clarifies that everything you’ve been hearing from the developers such as the ones on IGN are infact true. But he said the devs. were very careful with their words cause my source says Power does not equal presentation. Take that anyway you want.
47. Now he talks about the hyped up Super Smash Bros. Allstars game. He says this game will mark the first time that non-Nintendo characters will make the scene on an SSB game. ( cough Sega cough cough). He also says there will be a radical change in the series. He says the game won’t be limited to side-scrolling anymore. He also says it won’t be fully opened eiter. So basically in between 2d and 3d.
48. He also clarifies that there is a DS adaption of the SSBA game mentioned above.
49. OH and he clarifies this directly. The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess is not going to directly be released near the Revolution. He says those rumors are false. He says indeed the game will come out in the first quarter of 2006 as expected.
50. He also says that there will be some exclusive feature from the TP game in the revo. Well that was just confirmed. I mean what more info do you need to tell that this guy is the real thing. I mean he just said that the TP game will have exclusive content in the game and that was just announced. And no he did not get that off all the rumors circling. He just said after it that he has been a little behind on rumors and didn’t know if that had already been announced
this is his third dr. package update.
zucas wrote:
1. He said he can confirm right now that there is DS-Revo connectivity. Yah for that one. He also says that it will be stressed to the fullest. So another yah.
2. He says at D.I.C.E. Reggie will talk about the revo and possibly about the third secret. Then he says right after that that there is more than 3 secrets and doesn’t know why people are only saying there are 3.
3. He also says no videos for games will be shown either at DICE.
4. He also says that Nintendo is working on a video package right now that might say alot about the revo and could be shown at DICE but he doesn’t know yet.
5. He says he thinks that TP will be shown a little more at DICE.
6. He also says he has been looking at a bunch of blogs that claim they are real and he says none are legit.
7. He also says he doesn’t no what No End Soon is so he can’t comment on it. He has never heard of it one way or another and can’t say if it is real or not.
8. Also on a surprising note he says that Final Dev kits won’t be given out until April. So that is kinda interesting cause mostly of what I’ve heard is that dev kits are out. But he also says that few might have been given out to select companies. But this is a big explanation to why a lot of games haven’t been announced cause no dev kits have been given out yet.
9. Finally he posted this timelime of the Revo’s life cycle and everything that has happened to the Revo between 2002-2005. Really interesting to see. Especially about how we were days close to seeing games for the Revo until it was cancelled a couple of days before TGS. Oh well. Check it out. This is a direct post:
2002-2005 Schedule & Information:
Nintendo Next, as it’s originally codenamed, hit the planning stages in late 2002.
The idea for a “3D” controller comes up during a Future Concepts meeting in May of 2003.
The following month saw the first sketch of a possible “3D” controller. It looked much like Wavebird, only much, much uglier.
By the end of the year, over a dozen sketches for a possible “3D” controller have been made. Most of which resemble a modified Wavebird mixed with a large brick-like gyration apparatus in the lower middle. The first prototype test model of another peripheral was also shown during this time period.
After a few discussions about Nintendo’s future in early 2004, Nintendo came up with a new codename: Revolution.
On June 11th, 2004, the aforementioned peripheral was created in full form for future developmental purposes.
The first non-Wavebird-looking controller sketch is made within days after June 11th by designer Kanta Dezaki.
This design, which resembled a fat iPodish remote controller with a only a vague resemblence to the Wavebird, was immediately approved of and early models were made within only a few months.
Developments were made all throughout 2004, as well as the plan for the Revolution itself. The early model for Revolution was made - and it looked much like the “Revolution” we all know today - only it was much bigger.
Nintendo announce Nintendo Revolution.
Plans are made to reveal the console pre-e3 2005.
Xbox 360 is revealed in early 2005. Nintendo decide that competition against both Microsoft and Sony is futile, and pull plans to reveal the console pre-e3.
March 2005- Nintendo decide an initial marketing strategy in whole. The peripheral is put on the side. The controller entered the final stages, but still not quite up-to-par according to Nintendo.
The elusive Nintendo On video “leaks” online. Nintendo are impressed with this fan made creation.
May 3rd, 2005. A video package demonstrating various features of the Nintendo Revolution are shown. In this video included demonstration of the controller with next generation titles such as Mario “128”, Metroid Prime 3, Kid Icarus, and an undisclosed Donkey Kong title. I personally have never seen this video...neither did e3.
Nintendo, only days before e3 2005, decide to keep their controller a secret. The reasoning for this is a few reasons: 1) The controller wouldn’t be appreciated with the 360 and PS3 stealing the show. 2) The controller wasn’t finished. 3) The video made it blatently obvious how the games' graphics are used. 4) The graphics would seem inferior to both the 360 and PS3’s tech demos.
A quick Metroid Prime 3 video running on the Gamecube was made to substitute for the lack of content on Nintendo’s next-generation behalf.
Nintendo showcase the Revolution console at e3 2005. Plans of Wi-Fi and the backwards compatability are made known.
No more than 20 people are shown the early controller at e3 2005. It is made very clear that Nintendo have a new vision for the future of gaming. It’s also made clear that there will be hell to pay if anyone leaks information. ;-)
Nintendo hit up the drawing board again to perfect the controller and the decrease the size of the system. You have not seen the smaller model yet.
During this time, Nintendo are very selective with who gets what information.
A series of meetings are held in Las Vegas in August. Another very private encounter between Nintendo and selected companies. The leaner, sleeker controller is shown during this time. It was the same one shown at TGS, only black.
Nintendo make up their plans for the Tokyo Game Show shortly after. A new, modified version of the e3 video was made. This, as you know, didn’t happen at the show either. The reason for this is because Nintendo changed their plans to reveal all in 2005. A number of things were supposed to happen at TGS. The peripheral was canceled for appearance, which caused the video to be canceled, which caused for Nintendo to make plans only days before TGS. The controller even got canceled at one point, but the big N decided it was best if they showed something (as everyone was expecting it).
Backstage at TGS were tech demonstrations of the Revolution. Also backstage, shown to only a few dozen people, was the “first” revealation of the peripheral and various other prototype peripherals.
Nintendo explain Wi-Fi with the DS.
The Revolution becomes the “Revolution” - a series of name changes happen. Complete chaos.
IGN interviews some supposed developers about the power behind the Revolution. They give an accurate, but conservative amount of information.
Nintendo cancel plans for New Year’s Eve. I don’t know what this was about, but I was told they would “kick off the new year with something special.“
this is his fourth dr. package update.

Now he has dropped the bomb and will get to it shortly. But I must be careful in reitterating what he said cause this is only part 1 of the post. He said it very vaguely so I must do it vague also.
1. He goes on to say first that one of the secrets is not holograms. Now I’ll get more into that after the Dr. Package post cause there is a lot of confusion to come.
2. He also says that a touch screen on the controller or a built in mic into the revo is also not a secret.
3. Now to the juicy stuff. And this guy basically says what I’ve said so many times in a certain context. He says that the Nintendo ON video is 100% fake. It is not real at all. However he says the basic idea is real.
4. So he then goes on to tell us this. The bomb is virtual reality. Virtual reality is the bomb. He says that optional peripheal that will blow our minds away is virtual reality.
5. But he shortly says after that he has not confirmed anything solid. He says he said that the bomb is virtual reality and nothing else.
6. He then goes on to say how virtual reality for the Revolution does not need a bulky visor.
So overral virtual reality will be the final peripheal to the Revolution. But there is a simple question. He says it doesn’t need a bulky visor. So that would obviously mean augmented reality or stereoscopic 3d. Or does it. Well actually NOOOOO it doesn’t. He said at the beginning that holograms was not the secret. And to create augmented reality or stereoscopic 3d you need holograms.
So what the hell is he talking about. Well I have no idea but stay tuned in for part 2 either Wednesday or Thursday where he explains. Wow virtual reality without a “bulky” visor or holograms. I’m confused but there you go. There is your bomb.

I have done an audio analysis on my site in which the link is in my quote.
I did an indepth analysis of a prediction I found and of Nintendo’s philosophy. And I feel that more meaning comes from reading it so I’ll post exactly what I said. It is a very intriguing analysis into what Nintendo is trying to accomplish and why they are doing it. It is a really good read:
“Before you clicked on this podcast I put up a prediction I found on the web. Now because some might be offended about what it says I will not give you a link but that is what it said. I did not write.
But look at what it says. It states that without Nintendo that in 3 years the gaming industry will crash. Now it’s not saying that if Nintendo drops out of the console race will the market crash. It is saying without the ideals and innovation Nintendo is trying to push would cause it to crash. So without a Revolution, in really big quotations the industry would freeze and crash.
But this may be hard to understand. But the thought by many people is why we need to change the industry. Good question. Why should we ever try to change a market? I mean really. They never do it in any other markets. And that my friends are where you are wrong.
There comes a time in every market where a REVOLUTION is needed. When I hear people say that nothing needs to be changed but then I see them longing over a HDTV all I can think is one word. HIPPOCRITE. Seriously. You can’t support one revolution but then not except another. So why are people so unwilling to except Nintendo’s philosophy. Why do they go along with all these other Revolutions yet not this one? Is it because they are biased. Well they are but I think it goes deeper. Is it because they are afraid. Well they probably don’t want change but I think they can handle it. Or is it just because they don’t understand the reasoning and necessity that is needed in this industry?
Well we are going to go with the 3rd one because that is what the prediction was trying to say. So to understand this prediction and Nintendo’s “Revolution” you need to understand why Revolutions come about and why they are needed. You need to understand why 90% of the time they are successful.
So let’s go over some Revolutions. First of all Revolution don’t just happen in product saling markets. They come throughout history in philosophy, politics, people, technology, ect. They come in everything. So to Define a Revolution we need to go over the backbone of them.
Revolutions is basically a big change in they way things used to be. Here are a few examples. One of the most influential Revolutions of the last millennium would be the Renaissance. Before the Renaissance a lot of the artists were very anti classical. They didn’t do things like the Greeks and Romans didn’t use to do. But when the Renaissance came about all of a sudden there was a change in the thought process and the art. All of a sudden art started to show more meaning. Art just revolutionized and made art a big thing. That is a Revolution in the Fine Arts.
Another Revolution is the Enlightenment. The enlightenment is a great example. The way people think just changed. Before many people were not making huge advances in technology, they weren’t questioning how things were in politics. No one before questioned divine right. No one did any of this until after a few historical events made people start to think. You know maybe this guy isn’t king because god wanted him to be. Maybe government should be run this way. This is an example of a very successful Revolution in the areas of Philosophy and Politics. Actually our American Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence ideals all come from thinkers from this time period.
Another Revolution is the Protestant Reformation. Before this the thought was that you didn’t read the bible. The Catholic church told you what the bible said and you couldn’t question it. They were your interpreters and you believed what they said. Then this thing came up and all of a sudden people start to ask and question. They are saying they want to read the bible. They say things like how do I know what you are saying is actually what is written. This Revolution was so successful that it created a whole new branch of religion called the Protestants. This revolution triggered people to think for themselves. To read and interpret their own beliefs and faith for themselves. This Revolution took its place in the categories of Religion and Philosophy.
So let’s get into more modern times. But first a Revolution so big that the word is even in the name. The Industrial Revolution is one of the biggest revolutions of the millennium. This one was so influential that the ideas have been carried on and evolved and are used today. The industrial revolution changed the way we performed business. There were no more people trading and everything. Now people could centrally locate to make things and all in one place. You didn’t have to travel around to get the sheep. Then to give it to a person who weaves. Now all of that could be done in one location and efficiency went up. This brought out a whole new way of performing business quickly and efficiently. This is an extremely successful revolution in business, philosophy, and technology.
So I could go on an on with all these revolutions. But let’s look at ones in the markets today. All of a sudden people stopped using A Tracks and and Records. They started moving to CD’s as the media source. The format that we listen to music on changed or revolutionized. Without a revolution in the media we would still be listening to records.
MP3 players changed the way we listen to music portably. It didn’t evolve. Don’t get confused. It destroyed and disrupted one market by introduction a totally new market. Sound familiar.
And these go on and on. So now we go to the Revolution. Nintendo is posing new ideas all that would do to what all of these things did. They are always talking about disrupting and destroying one market to change it into to something else. Something better. Something that could last until the next big thing came out.
They are stating things that the industry needs a change. That for too long the industry has stayed the same. That if it stays that way there will be a huge decline.
So Nintendo’s philosophy is compiled of 2 things. The 2 things are to start a revolution. To do this they are going to let out a new type of product that they believe will totally disrupt the market that was there but create something totally new.
So now we look back and we see what has happened throughout history. Something totally new has come out. It took out the other market our ideal and replaced it with theirs. Sound familiar.
So now that we completely understand what Nintendo is trying to do and how history supports that let’s go back to the prediction. This is a really simple prediction. It is predicting that if nothing new comes into the market it will crash.
Well from your infinite knowledge after hearing this wouldn’t you agree. If records was still the media format don’t you think sooner or later the market would have crashed. If CD players was the portable music player still that in a few years it would crash. Don’t you think if SDTV’s was still the standards that in 10 years it would crash.
So wouldn’t you agree that if same gaming consoles that repetively remade with higher graphical abilities was still here the next few years that the market would crash. The prediction has shown that if the market doesn’t change it will crash. So with all your previous knowledge wouldn’t you agree?
So that is what Nintendo’s philosophy backbone is coming off of and that is what this prediction is stating. It says that if nothing new comes into the market just like every other market it will crash. The funny thing about markets that if something stays in for too long that is good everyone jumps in on it. And soon too many of it is there and it gets boring. So something new needs to come in to restart the whole market. This is called the Business cycle. In every market there is a time of surplus and then right after a time of decline. To fix the decline something revolutionary must be placed.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that Nintendo’s Revolutions are going to be what disrupts and destroys this market and turns it into a different direction. I’m not saying that. But I am saying that what Nintendo is trying to do is what history says it should do. By looking at history of markets and life itself it is supported. The Revolution could be a total failure but it will put the market in going the right direction cause the damage will be done the process will have been already been put into affect. It will be unstoppable then.
So this is my analysis of not only the prediction that I showed you but also why Nintendo chose to go the route it did. Hopefully you can show a little more respect into what Nintendo is trying to accomplish. Nintendo is on the right but let’s hope that they can accomplish there goal. Nintendo is not trying to start something new for the hell of it. They have reasons and history in this market and of this world has proved that they are doing the right thing. AS the old saying goes if we don’t learn from history we are doomed to repeat our mistakes. This is a chance to learn from history and keep a market on track.
So thanks for listening. This is Zucas and this is my in-depth analysis of Nintendo and what they were trying to accomplish. Think about what was said.
So just one last word. Once Nintendo incorporates this into the market it will be unstoppable. No one could stop the Renaissance from happening or the Enlightenment or the Reformation and no one will be able to stop a Revolution."

-Preliminary development on Wii began shortly after the release of Nintendo GameCube.
-Wii will play proprietary 12cm discs, which is the same size as DVDs. It will also be able to play GameCube Optical Discs, as it is backward compatible with the unit. Details on the new 12cm discs are slim. Nintendo initially announced that the discs would be dual-layered, offering upward of 8 gigabytes of storage. However, shortly after the announcement, it removed all mention of dual-layered discs from its official Wii press release.
-Wii will be able to play dvd\\\'s. However, DVD-movie playback will not be available out of the box. Wii owners must buy an additional dongle that inserts in front of the machine in order to watch Hollywood DVD movies on the platform.
-The Wii console will feature online play out of the box. Nintendo at the March 15, 2005 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco announced an aggressive new Wi-Fi strategy for both DS and Wii. Wi-Fi enables wireless, high-speed connections to the Internet using such popular standards as 802.11b and 802.11g. Company executives made strong statements about Nintendo\\\'s belief that gamers should be able to wirelessly go online and play against each other.
-Nintendo announced at E3 2005 that Wii would be able to go online wirelessly and download classic Nintendo games. Nintendo has not yet announced what titles will be available for download. However, it has confirmed that Wii owners could theoretically download every NES, Super-NES and Nintendo 64 game ever made. Also Mega Drive/Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 systems will be availible for download. The publisher is reportedly already working with third party publisher to ensure that popular third party games are also available to download.
-The IBM-created CPU is called Broadway. The ATI-developed GPU is called Hollywood.
-At E3 2006, Nintendo announced WiiConnect24, a feature of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection that will allow the user to remain connected to the Internet in standby mode. Some possibilities of WiiConnect24 that were mentioned at E3 2006 included allowing friends visit the player\\\'s village in games like Animal Crossing, and downloading new updates for games while not playing or while in standby mode.
-Similar to the Nintendo DS Browser, the Opera web browser will be included with Wii. The web browser will be saved in Wii\\\'s Flash ROM (allowing access within seconds), and will support JavaScript. In addition to functioning as a web browser, Opera on Wii will serve as a layout engine to be used for web-based applications.
-Wii will support wireless connectivity with the Nintendo DS. Shigeru Miyamoto said Nintendo was still working out when features using this connectivity would be available, but that it would be soon after the launch of the system, due to the popularity of the Nintendo DS.
Remote control design:
-Constructed to appeal to a wide variety of potential players
-3D Pointing: Sensors understand up, down, left, right, forward and backward.
-Tilt Sensitive: Controller can be rotated or rolled from side-to-side.
-Buttons Included: Has a trigger on its backside, face buttons, and a D-Pad.
-Multifunctional: Has an expansion port which can be used with different types of controller peripherals. Analog stick with two trigger buttons planned for left hand.
-Wireless: Totally wire-free. Currently there are no details on the max distance, source or power, or otherwise.
-Rumble Built-in. Included standard in all the controllers.
-The Wii-mote is still powered by two AA batteries, providing up to 60 hours of play time, depending on functions used.
-6KB of \\\'non-volatile\\\' memory is contained within the controller.
-The controllers will be synchronised to the console via an ID number. Activation will be completed by the use of a button under the Wii\\\'s \\\'flap\\\' and one behind the Wii-mote\\\'s battery cover.
-The sensor bar, measuring 20cm wide, includes LEDs to display controller positions - 1 to 4 - and when turning on the console, they\\\'ll blink a certain number of times to indicate battery life.

Imagine. Imagine having fronts of hundreds of unique players battling hundreds of other players in all out war. HALO on STEROIDS if you will. Imagine having futuristic vehicles of land, sea, air.
Imagine having futuristic spec op teams. Imagine your role of dropping them behind enemy lines in your HELO type aircraft as you navigate through the antiaircraft guns then taking your ship and lighting the enemy up before you eject when your ship reaches critical status from all the damage it has taken. You are dropping down with your rocket pack unleasing hell on the enemy with your Futuristic Gatling Guns. You begin to run when you hear a quick UGHH behind you.
“I Got your back” you hear over the headset. You turn around and there was an enemy troop sneaking up on you and was about to slice your throat quietly with a SABER. Lucky for you a sniper on your team picked him off first. You say a quiet"Thanks” and keep on moving.
You are moving towards the enemy base when 50 enemy soldiers played by other fellow gamers begin to stalk in on your position.
There is explosions everywhere. Bullets flying. Lasers shooting. Excitement , adrenaline. FEAR.
The game is based on skill. How good of a shot are you? How good are you at dodging rounds. You run from the enemy’s quick reaction force. Your running. All you have is a cheezy pistol. You need something with OOMPH. Wait. You look over. Welcome to Pappa bear you see a 500 round gatling gun version of the grenade launcher. You pick it up. Strap it on. You run over the hill. Look down.
There is the enemy’s 50 men looking for you. You take Aim. ASTA LA VISTA BABY! You light them all up. Body’s flying every where from the explosions.
You wipe em clean. All of a sudden through your earphones you hear “Flag Taken”. Your boyz got the Flag.
In the horizon you see a whole fleet of your guys making an assault by air. There is 10 of your helos coming in fast and heavy with reinforcements. You dont know if you can take it anymore. The Excitement is overwhelming. The Helos are light armed and cant take a big hit. Troop transports mainly. You look to your west and you see the enemy. They are taking off with HVTA’s. High Velocity Tactical Aircraft. These things can hover, fly fast, and hit hard. They are armored to the teeth and can bring down a world of hurt with there combination of lasers, missiles, and chain guns.
There is 5 of them. More than enough to annihilate the helos. What do you do. You have 30 seconds before they hit your boyz. The flag is waiting to be picked up. 100 meters away is a 30mm explosive tip anti-aircraft gun. It is banged up and blackened but it may still be operational. You haul ass to it. Running. Jumping over debree from the brick wall that was knocked down. Bullets are whizzing over your head. You hear explosions in the distance.
You are there. You hear the HVTA’s coming close. They are not focused on you. They are worried about the HELO’s extracting your team with the Flag. You hop on the gun. It works and is loaded to the gills with rounds. You swing the anti-aircraft gun around. The HVTA’s are nearing in over your head. You put them in your sites. Pull the trigger. BOOM,BOOM,BOOM,BOOM, You drop one of them. The others split up not knowing what the hell is hitting them. They turn their attention to you. You see 4 missiles homing in on you. You hop off the gun. Explosions throw you. You had an overshield on. You are ok but hurt.
The explosion knocked you into a cavelike hole. You hear in your headset. WE GOT THEM. WE GOT THEM. You boyz have been picked up they are heading back to base with the Flag.
You distracted the fighters long enough to get your team the win. The other team was less experienced. They should of kept on going after your HELOS. Instead they waited and focused only on you. They wont make that mistake again. After all. When you fight the future of warfare with a hundred vs a hundred it has its learning curve. They most surely wont make that mistake again.
This is just the Multiplayer. You havent even touched on the Single/CO-OP/8 Player Version.
EVERY GAMER WHO PLAYS. EVERY GAMER WHO USED TO PLAY. EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE YET TO PLAY, WII IS FOR YOU.
A WII IS COMING. REVOLUTION DAY. JUNE 6, 2006.
Guts N’ Glory rumer:
How do we evolve a genre…or a controller paradigm, or intuitive user interface? How do we come up with that special product that everyone catches on and the moment they see and play it, it all makes sense? Guts N’ Glory is a testament to our sacrifice and unbridled passion to push our industry but also creativity to their furthest limits. But in the midst of all of these advances in our plans or steps taken to not only be sure that we perfect an art but redefine it. The story and atmosphere of this vision must encompass all that we have envisioned and so much more. The story of Vigo Segorfsky is not a story that you would expect to relate to in an interactive environment, but a violent, melancholy and ultimately action-packed imagining of the story of a broken man before his end. During the Cold War Soviet Russia was busy at work competing as a superpower through espionage, arms manufacturing, and spy and operative techniques were being defined and redefined everyday then. Citing Mother Russia as the pinnacle of the communist ideal and being ultimately corruptible through the Red Army, Mafia and the KGB. Mr. Segorfsky was at the operative positional level with the special ops KGB. As you may expect while in the KGB Vigo Segorfsky has done his share of action. You will go back through in-game hip-hop montages on his missions including: Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge: S-21 interrogation building, as a secret operative in the Battle of Mogadishu, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Rwandan genocide among many many more. These will all span different times and will all be based on our imagining of true historic events which we are taking the utmost care in translating into being geographically correct. Our gameplay engine will be constantly evolving to take advantage of the most thrilling and suited situation. We have gone to great lengths that even with the game engine constantly changing the player will change with it and his/her play style will determine that change…based on level of skill and predominant way of playing. So every time you play it is a somewhat different experience.
How do we revitalize a genre that has become stagnate and at the same time complacent? Our graphics engine is a proprietary concept based loosely on the Unreal Engine 3.0, Doom 3, Project Offset, Timeshift and F.E.A.R. engines and a combination of many others. We tried to incorporate all of the strengths of these engines and leave behind the respective weaknesses. As a result we have been able to have up to 90,000 characters on-screen at once each with a respective 600,000 polygons per character running at a locked 60fps. Of course this has all been accomplished in-game also weighing in the most sophisticated AI and physics proprietary technology ever witnessed in a interactive environment. We have also been able to accomplish (weighing in the AI and physics) up to 50 characters on-screen each with a mind-blowing 1,000,000 polygons per character at a constant 60fps. Our main character in the title will sport between 800,000 polys-1,000,000 polys which is still being decided. The physics technology and Artificial Intelligence in Guts N’ Glory is one most outstanding feats this team has been able to accomplish. The physics and AI is in our believe the closest you can possibly get to 100% real world reflection with today’s technology. But as I said before the tech is what really matters the least in the big scheme of production and development in what we are truly trying to do with this title.
Many rumors and speculation have been peddled around the internet and forums since last years E3 and attention to our studio and game has also sparked many a heated arguments. But rest assured Guts N’ Glory is a real game that has been in development for the last seven years (four years of this time spent developing our proprietary technology) and the last three on the true heart of the game. We are planning and hoping to be able to release the title in early 2007 with a Adult Only rating. As with many developing who start out wanting to make a game that will appropriately receive a Mature rating. We knew from the start that because of the pure fact that the combat was going to be as purely realistic as it was it would get an Adult Only rating but more than that the context of the game would warrant that above all else. The idea that your are playing as a man who is very anti-American and who has such a critical view of the social/economic system of many countries. But we wanted going into this knowing what we wanted to do, to really embrace the Adult Only rating instead of diluting it to make it more pliable to the retailers or politicians.
We wanted to portray Vigo Segorfsky as a man who is very unlikable but at the same time you could really connect with on a emotional level. We wanted to give him and his story many layers just like any real person who has been through all that he has been. He is not your Kratos or Leon S. Kennedy or Dante…he is a real person with as real a past and life that we could give to him. He is not someone with a unbreakable spirit or body, we wanted above all else to portray him as a man with real fears and real weaknesses as any real man would have (emotionally or physically). Facial expression and animation of the rigid bodies (especially the eye’s of characters) was key to expressing this vision, to truly give him lifelike emotions and reactions to any event that happened in our title (unscripted or not). The idea for this game was not to make a game that was a forgettable blockbuster hit. It was meant to be a masterpiece of interactive entertainment comparable to a independent film, whether that be its ultra-violent combat or its depressing story or the extremely controversial context of the game. But above all else for it to be a milestone in the art of interactive entertainment and interactivity as a whole.
Now, I’ll move on to the combat which will likely become half of the reason why it will be the most earned Adult-Only game ever. In past games that are action or gun heavy you would see somewhat realistic damage to a point and then they would just die with one or two kinds of damage. In our game we have implemented what we and Nintendo like to call the first complete anatomical physics technology. Which means in lamens when you shoot someone their body will morph and react exactly like it would in real life and be anatomically correct. I.E. if you shoot someone with a 9mm handgun from 20 yards away in the forehead, you would see a small hole in their head and they would fall and collide with their environment. But lets say you shot someone with a .357 in the same spot in the forehead from 20 yards away you would see a large chunk of their head blow off and those particles would collide with other rigid bodies and the environment. The physics will of course change depending where you shoot them and the angle or spread or distance or the type of weapon used. If someone is dead instead of when you go up and shoot them nothing happens…in our title the rigid bodies will continue to react to the realistic morphing physics while alive or dead. We have even done extensive work so that everything in the environments reacts the same way. The combat engine itself we take great pride in because not only have we combined all of the great features of recent engines (Resident Evil 4, Gears of War, Oblivion, Half-Life 2, Ultima Underworld, Halo etc.) to work in tandem better than anything but we have redefined how a action title should play and work through the new Nintendo controller. The only other game that I am excited about its combat engine as much as this one is the new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which will have a revamped combat engine that has me very excited to play with, but this has not been revealed to the public yet. We want to keep most of the combat engine details under wraps for now as we are excited to see how this great new technology will effect the way action games are made for years to come.
The Joy of Lights rumer:
I’m saving my favorite for now simply because of how scared we got in the studio at this game. It comes from Clover of which Shinji Mikami is heading this game. He also is doing a separate Resident Evil exclusive for the Wii releasing in 2008. After we played through this hour long demo all I have is one thing to say. This game is truly terrifying. I mean I am a grown man and I was turning on lights I usually don’t at night because of this game. Right now its just called “The Joy of Lights” and you will NEVER forget the horrors this game has in store for you. It has no supernatural demons or imps or monsters of any kinds. It all has to do with humans who are monsters at heart. This game seems to be heavily if not completely influenced by a movie I saw a couple years back called “Ravenous”. Which was just as weird as this game but not nearly as creepy and horrifying. The eerie and unnerving music from that movie is unsettlingly still in tact. It’s a mix of this hick banjo-twang violin-techno and is the most creepy music I have ever heard in my life. The game is set in the winter of a desolate remote part of the Sierra Nevada Mountains set in the year 1806. Yeah that’s right, when’s the last time you played a game set in the 1800’s. It starts of with this guy Captain John Boyd who is fighting in the American-Mexican war. Ultimately in one sequence you have to either die or hide underneath a huge pile of dead and dying bodies of American soldiers. To get close enough to take out the commanding officer and kill him so you can win the battle and allow your fellow soldiers to storm in. We got a hands-on play of the demo and I’m not going to spoil anything. But you will be very impressed if not deeply disturbed and terrified for the rest of your life.
And now here he describes a game demo of the game: Note this isn’t short:
I’m glad you asked to know more about “The Joy of Lights” game, exclusive to Nintendo Wii. Here I will give you a hands-on in-depth rundown of the demo I played.
The Joy of Lights is probably still a codename but does fit the weird unsettling ambiance of this game. Its being directed by Shinji Mikami and as I said before it seems completely based around the movie “Ravenous”. The main character is this guy named Captain John Boyd who is stationed at a remote camp deep in the Sierra Nevada Mountains during a harsh winter. We got to play an hour-long demo which is only a SMALL taste of the finished product we were told in the introduction. Enjoy
The demo opens up with the scene of Boyd staring blankly at a piece of very rare bloody steak. Everyone around the huge table is in uniform including your character. The sounds of the eating, chewing and swallowing are heavily exaggerated to be stomach churning and very disturbing. You are able to turn Boyd’s head by moving the controller to look around. But that’s all you able to do in this sequence. At some point it fixates on the general who is looking at you with a very stern unhappy grimace. It then cuts to the sequence that I mentioned before where your fighting in the American-Mexican war. After you successfully play through that it cuts back to the table scene where the general is staring at you from the opposite end of the table. You are then asked to come a room after your meal to talk with the general. It then cuts to this scene. He tells you he knows the only reason you survived and were victorious was because you acted cowardly (playing dead and hiding under dying and dead bodies of fellow soldiers). So he tells you he will have to promote you but you are being stationed at Fort Spencer (in the Sierra Nevada Mountains) as a punishment.
The next scene opens up showing Boyd arriving at Fort Spencer and meeting the others uniforms and locals. They all are eerily strange and distant in how they approach and greet you. The snow effects are absolutely gorgeous in how each little flake is rendered and how the snow crushes under your feet. I’d also like to mention how the soundtrack is a quarter of what makes this demo and most likely the finished game so utterly terrifying. The sounds effects, the crunching of snow, the overture music…oh god that music is I will never forget.
I want to get off point here for a second and mention that I’ve only met Shinji Mikami once at a round table interview of developers. He is kind of out of his mind. The interviewer was asking him what the inspiration and goal of RE4 was (this was around 2001 when not much was shown or known concerning RE4, and the European Umbrella Headquarters infiltration idea had been scraped.) But he responded and said that he wanted Resident Evil 4 to allow people to feel good about killing other human beings. So he wanted to revamp the combat to be very methodical in pace but also very realistic. I got this demo from one of my friends who works at Clover who’s team helped us with development. His name is Atsushi Inaba. Then I heard that Mikami made the comment that if his masterpiece RE4 was ported he would chop his head off or something. Obviously he didn’t chop his head off but since it was ported he said he refused to direct Resident Evil 5. Hopefully he’ll do RE6 though.
Anyway, the demo then goes on a fast forward thing stopping at certain parts to convey the story in the demo. All these parts will probably be playable from what I can tell in the finished game. One part it stopped at was they were sitting around a fire and some Irish or Scottish guy named Calhoun stumbled in about dead and had frostbite or something. After they fed him and gave him warm blankets he started telling the story that he and other people had been lost in the mountains. They took refuge in a cave and one of them killed the others and ate them. Then Calhoun convinced the soldiers to go look for any survivors and bring the killer to justice. The camera then zoomed in on the right side of Boyd’s face who looked skeptical but decided to go along. During this sequence you could look around with the analog stick nun-chuk attachment, and would be prompted to put wood on the fire or help dress Calhoun’s wounds with the remote. It then fast forwarded again to them journeying out on the mountain looking for the cave Calhoun described and shows one guy fall and cut his lower leg pretty badly. It then stopped again showing Boyd and the others pitching camp for the night on a series of rocky mountain cliffs. When you take control of Boyd he is practicing with his rifle with another guy. At this point it shows you the dynamics of how the gunplay or at least some of it is done in this game. Tells you what to do and how to shoot with the controller.
At this point it is dusk and you can really see the extraordinary attention to detail here. When the people breath you can see their breath from the cold mountain air and hear the sounds of nature everywhere. We have a 7.1 surround sound system here so it was amazing to hear all that with the sounds of the crackling fire. The control dynamics of the shooting are amazing. You point the controller where you want to shoot and press the A button to fire…using the analog stick to make Boyd walk around. You can press and hold down the Z2 button so it clicks down and it will make Boyd look down the sights of the barrel. The cool part is when he does this his eyes squint and kind of blur out everything except what’s directly in your line of fire. You are shooting at birds flying around the mountain cliffs and you and the other guy will converse naturally as you do your sort of gun-training. The whole process is very fluid with the story and animations are just as fluid.
After about ten or fifteen minutes you will hear a guy who’s sleeping in his tent a little ways away screaming. This was brilliantly directed because just as you are focusing intently on making the shot and Boyd and the other guy are joking around and whatnot. All of a sudden there is this extremely alarming horrible scream. It almost sends you for a jolt because of how you are trying to focus and it literally comes out of nowhere. That scream echoed so loud and with such true clarity of a real scream I really sends you out you’re your chair. All of a sudden your gun comes down and Boyd looks at the other guy and that guy goes running down the rocks to find out what just happened. You then follow the guy down with the analog stick jumping over cracks and crevices in the rocks by moving the remote upwards and pressing forward on the analog stick. By the time you get to the tent everyone else is there also and the guy in the is still making that shrill scream. It then reveals the guy who was screaming was the one who injured his leg. Then he starts screaming “He was licking me!!!”. That’s when I remembered this was from that movie I had seen a while ago. But you use the controller to look down and you see Calhoun laying next to him cowering with blood all over his face and mouth. The others then get angry and pull Calhoun aggressively out of the tent and Calhoun is pleading he did not know what he was doing. The guy with the injured leg the starts to settle down.
You are then told by the others and prompted to tie Calhoun’s hands behind his back while someone holds a rifle to his head and watches your back. This is done by moving the remote around his hands and holding his wrists with the Z2 and Z1 triggers. By this point the games shows that everyone including Boyd is very shaken up and confused. The others tell you (Boyd) that since you are the new guy that you must keep watch over Calhoun while everyone sleeps. This is where the game gets really terrifying and tense. You are in this tent with Calhoun but you have your rifle and at first you have this lantern going. Which provides some small source of light. Then you can hear the wind outside really begin to pick up and it is really beautiful because you see the sides of the tents fabric blowing in because of the wind. But after a minute the lantern goes out and all you can see it a vague outline of Calhoun’s body. What makes it worse is that the entire time he’s pleading with you to let him go and that nobody will care too much if you do. But then the tent spikes that hold it down begin to come up and you have to use the remote to push them down again to keep the tent up. All the while making sure Calhoun doesn’t get away or do something while your back is turned. One time while I was turned around replanting the tent spike when I turned back around to keep watch on Calhoun he was turned all the way around facing me. I drew my gun quickly and Boyd told him to turn around and he again pleaded with me to let him go and why was I pointing a gun at him. Pleading that he never hurt me and I should be kind to him. On some occasions it would be so dark that I couldn’t see which was he was turned and when the fabric on the tent would blow it would let a little moonlight in. Showing Calhoun glaring at me with a weird smile on his face. After the wind calmed down it switched to a first-person perspective and showed that Boyd could hardly keep his eyes open. You are then prompted the either keep jiggling the controller when your vision blanks out from being tired to stay awake. Or to hit Calhoun in the back of his head with the but of the rifle. I choose the latter. You take the remote and draw back then forward in a striking motion to knock him unconscious so you can sleep. It then fast forwarded again.
It then cut to them coming up to a cave next to a small river that Calhoun was pointing to. It then stops and you take control again. Your character Boyd is walking with the group with one guy with a rifle leading Calhoun. His hands still tied behind his back. You approach the cave and Calhoun says that this is where they found shelter and the man killed and ate all the men, women and children. He also says there’s a strong possibility the man is still inside. So out of the five people two of them and yourself go into the cave. The detail inside the cave is literally amazing. Everything is rendered in lifelike detail from the water in the cave, the dirt, the rocks…everything is beautiful. Although not nearly on par with our game this game’s graphics are surely head and shoulders above anything else that has been shown to the public for next-generation thus far. The cave is a series of winding small narrow tunnels causing Boyd and the other two to duck down and squeeze through the narrow passages. You of course move him throughout the game with the analog stick but he does the squeezing through and ducking down all on his own. But you and another guy take one route and the other guy goes another. After a little walking you will come to a small dead end and will find the room. Now throughout this sequence you will be holding a lantern which you will use to see certain things and move it with the remote. Once you get to the dead end the guy with the rifle (the person you’re with) will tell you to shine the lantern at the ground and back walls. Which will reveal about 17-20 skeletons and partially decaying people. They are all women, men and children and a lot of the bones that the other guy picks up have teeth marks in them. You can quickly tell that every bite mark has a signature missing tooth mark in it. Then you a given another huge jolt when the third guy comes in and says the other route leads to nowhere. Then he makes the observation that Calhoun has a missing tooth that matches the bones. All at once you realize that Calhoun himself is the cannibal and then you hear a gunshot and screams coming from outside. At this point you begin to feel a soft heartbeat like vibration in both the remote and nun-chuk.
It then cuts to show Calhoun break the rope that tied his wrists and quietly walk over and gouge both of one of the soldiers eyes out and take his knife. The other man fires the shot that you heard and accidentally hit’s the man who just lost his eyes. Calhoun then rushes over and slit’s the man’s throat who has the gun and stabs him in the chest three times as he screams. Calhoun then takes the rifle from him and throws it down river.
It then cuts back to Boyd and the other two. At this point the guy with the rifle signals for them to return outside and all three of you start running. You run in this game by pushing any direction on the analog stick and holding down Y to run. You move the remote to keep the lantern lighting the way to the surface. Once you get back to the hole to reach the surface you will be prompted to give the other two a boost with an A button “action scene”. He will then put down the lantern and it will then trigger an interactive cut-scene where you will use the remote to pull yourself out of the hole. You will need to move the controller up in a fast motion to pull yourself onto the ledge then tap the A button continuously to climb out.
Once out you discover the other two have disappeared apparently trying to find Calhoun. You see one guy laying there dead, stabbed in his upper chest many times and his throat cut. The other person is laying a little bit away holding his gut and his eye’s have been gouged out. You can tell he is still fighting for air and is bleeding profusely. A little arrow comes on the bottom part of the screen pointing towards the thick forest leading to another high cliff on the mountain. So I followed the where the arrow told me to go and was lost in this forest soon after . So you just have to keep following the arrows.
You continue on for about fifteen seconds and then you spot Calhoun down below. He is standing over top of one of the guys who were with you in the cave. The guy’s stomach skin has been pulled back to reveal his intestines and other organs. His cheek is also torn open, his rifle still in hand. Then the crazy part really cranks up. I will never forget what happens next. Calhoun looks at you with this weird little smirk and his body starts twitching and he starts making gurgling noises. His hands start twitching and moving sporadically in strange ways too. That creepy overture of that hick-banjo twang techno music starts going as well. Then a menacing voice say’s “RUN” and the text also appears on the bottom of the screen. So your character turns around and another arrow tells you where to go. You see Calhoun is now running full speed after you.
This is also like the rest of the game beautifully directed. You will trip over things like rocks and branches while your running and he will realistically pick himself up and keep going. The game also has no health bar, no nothing. Everything is fully immersive. You will see that he is breathing hard and both the analog nun-chuk and remote are heavily vibrating to simulate his rapid heartbeat. Occasionally you will run out of breath and have to hide behind a tree. Or lay or duck down behind something long enough to catch your breath. You should keep running again after you regain your breath and Boyd will look behind him from time to time to see Calhoun stumbling toward you. With those crazed animal like twitching motions. He will turn around one last time before you trip and notice you are looking off the ledge of a cliff. At this time in the sequence you see Calhoun is stumbling up slowly and has cornered you at this rocky cliff. You have two choices: fight him to try and get away or take your chances and jump. When you choose to fight him you use the analog nun-chuk and the remote as your fists to punch, Y to kick and X to grapple. But I never fought him for too long. I always ended up jumping off the cliff.
When you choose to jump off the cliff you will hit a downward slope and begin to tumble down the mountain with great speed. Boyd will hit the slope with an enormous impact that you will feel jolting through both parts of the controller. Then begin his decent down the slope slamming into trees, shrubs and rocks all the way down. The object here is use the remote to try and guide his body away from a few of the bigger obstacles he might slam into. While it seems impossible to dodge everything if not most things you have to guide him away from a few or else he will die from impact. Then you will be treated to many of the absolutely fantastic death scenes. You can also use the A button to grab onto a rock or tree to slow your fall for a minute and give you time to avoid obstacles. But this has to be done when prompted for the A button “action scenes”. The graphics for this part of the sequence were astounding and the rumble felt perfect in both controllers as he smacked into different things and would continue to roll downhill. It also lent itself to show how they are using their physics to great effect. He would crash and collide with things and roll downhill very realistically. But the trees and rocks and other things also reacted physically correct. Certain things and trees and rocks would break or begin to fall as he would hit them and try to grab hold of them. Everything had its own particles and the dirt and snow effects were as great as ever. It also looked great how he realistically took damage and got dirty and his clothes would tear.
But after a while of rolling down the steep almost completely vertical slope. He hits another rocky outcrop and falls downs another incline. As you guide him with the controller he will eventually fall into a deadfall covered with broken branches and things, and impale his upper thigh on a sharp stick. He lets out an echoing cry of pain as it pierces his thigh. The rumble in the two controller parts really kicks up a whole new notch right here to simulate the intense pain. All of a sudden you hear footsteps above you and a gurgling that could only be Calhoun above you. The object in this part as you will be told on-screen. Is to hold down the Z2 trigger and place his hand on the top of the wound to apply pressure. Then press and hold the B trigger and apply pressure to the bottom of the wound with his other hand. You will see the blood spurting from the wound and everything. The trick to it is to keep the hands as still as possible or else less pressure and his breathing gets heavier and alerts Calhoun to where you are. It is somewhat challenging because you have to be very still to keep the sound of his breathing low. Also the more still you are the more pressure is applied. You have to really hold those triggers too as the rumble is apparently designed to make it difficult to hold the triggers and be still.
If your not still and Boyd starts breathing hard, Calhoun will hear you and tear through the branches to find you in the deadfall. He will then pull you out and Boyd will yell from the stick being pulled back through his leg. But instead of just giving you the game over screen like other games. You will get to witness him devour you alive and you can try to get away. To get away you have to be very good with pushing him away with the remote and being quick with the prompts for A button “action scenes”. I could never get away and plus I wanted to see what happened if I didn’t. Anyway, Calhoun will hold you down and begin to take bites out of you. When I played he bit Boyd’s ear off and took several chunks out of the love handles with his teeth. He then somehow ripped Boyd’s lower abdomen open and began to pull out the intestines and bite pieces off. The rumble as in the rest of the game immerses you perfectly here. It has a medium rumble and as he bites into you or tears into your body the rumble get more aggressive. The sick part about it is that Boyd will continuously shove him off automatically to no avail even when you doing nothing. The closer Boyd gets to death the weaker your shoves and the automatic shoves will get. The closer Boyd gets to death he will also begin to fade out and you will see it in his face. When he’s very close to death (almost dead) it switches to a first-person perspective and his vision will begin to blank and fade out. The end being his vision totally goes white. The weirdest part was that during the whole thing this upbeat bluegrass tune was playing.
But if you manage to keep quite, Calhoun will eventually move on and Boyd will let out and big sign to prompt you that you can release pressure on the leg. As you do that a geyser of blood will shoot out and you will be given two choices of how to remove the stick from your thigh. You can pull the stick up through the leg. Or pull your leg off of the stick. I choose the first choice. Both require you to grab the leg or the stick with the analog nun-chuk while holding down Z2. Then grabbing the stick or the leg with the remote and perform an upward pulling motion. You have to move the remote up steadily and slowly or else it will slip and Boyd will collapse from shock and your game will be over.
Sequences like this would be annoying if the two parts weren’t as ergonomical and shaped so well. But the nun-chuk attachment fits so well in your hand and the placement of the triggers and analog stick are perfect. The same goes for the primary remote part, all of the buttons are perfectly placed and spaced correctly and the form factor is just as good.
After you either pull the stick up through the leg or leg off the stick the rumble will still be throbbing a bit. Now this scene is very gory and bloody. The blood will spurt realistically and wound will also react realistically while you perform this. Again its not nearly as gory or realistic as Guts N’ Glory is where everything is absolutely anatomically gory but it is still is very nasty. Anyway, the next part is getting out of the deadfall.
To do this you will have to perform another very well-done interactive cut scene. When prompted you will need to snap the controller upwards in a fast motion for him to jump and grab hold of the edge. Then you will be prompted to again continuously tap the A button to pull yourself up. He is weaker and it shows from his exhaustion. Once you get out you will need to follow the bottom-screen arrows. To find your way back through the dense forest and back to the mountain cliffs to return to Fort Spencer. Before you can proceed you will need to tie a piece of your pants leg around the wound with the another remote action to slow the bleeding. After that you can tell by the way he walks and runs he is tired and weak and lacking energy. Every step he takes he drips blood and leaves a trail as he walks (this can’t be avoided). The audio here is also downright amazing. You can hear all kinds of animals, sticks and snow crushing beneath your feet, his heavy breathing. You can see birds flying overhead and being alert to your presence and the forest is meticulously detailed.
You will eventually come to a rocky wall of the mountainside and have to scale it. At this point there is Prince of Persia inspiration here as well as you scale this plat forming section of the mountain. The scenery around you in the distance is jawdroppingly beautiful as well as the mountainside itself. It doesn’t even look like a plat forming sequence, it just look like a very high jaggy mountainside. The blood that smears on every rock your injured leg touches is also a nice touch to detail. Once you get back to the camp the others will ask you where the other soldiers are. It then cuts to him telling about what happened and about Calhoun. Some lady says he is a Wendigo. A monster who is immensely powerful that keeps himself sustained by eating humans. Then they agree to send someone to contact the authorities and tell Boyd to get some sleep. But you get the feeling they don’t completely trust Boyd or something. It then cuts to a shot of his eyes and upper forehead…the lantern goes out and the demo ends.
After I got back to the title screen it had the option “One more time”. So I choose the option, it loaded up my save. Then it cuts to Boyd sitting on the bed apparently from just waking. Then you hear that old familiar sound of gurgling on the other side of the room. As soon as your move the remote to look in that direction and spot Calhoun that fucking creepy ass hick twang violin music starts going and the remote starts vibrating softly. Calhoun’s standing there in that animalistic crazed form. With that smile and his arms and hands twitching and jerking around, and legs shaking. Calhoun then thrusts himself toward you and then the demo ends completely leaving you hanging. Wondering what the hell happened.
This was without a doubt the craziest and most horrifying game I’ve ever played. Just the transformation of the normal Calhoun into some playful twitching animal-like cannibal. Its almost like he’s playing with you and stalking you. It is truly unsettling. This might just be the first great game you might not want to finish. The theme from what I can tell is of isolation. In a place where there no way to escape these horrors because there’s literally nowhere to run. But you really can’t imagine what I have told you unless you actually play this yourself. It is tense, not like the unprecedented level of intensity in RE4. But just the feeling of tenseness throughout the whole thing. Not the anxiety or anxiousness or what will happen next. But the tenseness and utter fear and what happens next. Also what kind of creepy music are they going to play next that makes it that much worse. This game is slated for release sometime in 2007 so be watching and waiting for this. Remember The Joy of Lights is still a codename so it may or may not change. If so I will try and let you know. Take care. I hope you understand a little more of what I mean. __________________
