Didn’t you get the memo? Nintendo is struggling to keep consol sales up. Nintendo is loosing fan base to Sony & Microsoft faster than the U.S. military took Saddam out of power. If you think Nintendo having a less expensive system is going to get them more sales then you’re mistaken. The GC was the least expensive system but it suffered in sales. Why is that? Because Nintendo sacrificed technology for a cheap consol. Didn’t Nintendo learn from their mistakes with the GC? Guess not. In fact the “Revolution” is the least powerful with Nintendo’s head honcho confirming that fact.

So really, what does Nintendo have over the other two consoles? Most would say a new controller, but will something so simple pull Nintendo’s console sales out of its hole? I hardly think so. Innovation in game design revolves around advancements in technology, not the way a game is controlled. Simply put, a game is a piece of software & just like any other software the limitations of what it can achieve are bound to the limitations of hardware technology, thus the more powerful the hardware then the more innovation in game design can be achieved.

After all three systems are released people will pick up on Nintendo’s lack of innovation in game design & see the Revolution as a cheap gimmick that’s not exactly up to par with the competition.

Xtrm you make a very,very good point. But,and there is always a but where Nintendo messed these last couple of years by not following Sony&Ms by going the way of online play just to mention a few of the new impovments they could have done, thats where they’re gonna improve.Cause all I heard from every gamer who is not biased but just looks at things they way they are like you for example saying that Nintendo is struggling to keep sales and all that,well that area is where they as a Corporation now sees the problem and are trying very hard to catch up and keep up by have Nintendo online play not just with the Revolution but with even the handheld systems and of course I’m talking about the DS.


Now to address your view on what the Rev has over the other two consoles is,I think not just the new control but online play in itself because there are soooo many games out there for the GC that would just be absolutey awesome for online play, and all the Nintendo fans here would agree which ones.So I totally agree with you on the way Nintendo has to improve Hardware in order to be very innovative with they’re Software,that is a givin,but I think they are learning from their competitors and their competitors are learning from them.But by jacking up the prices just to make sales is not what Nintendo is about, true they need to make sales in order to keep doing what they do best
but is not much of a job if thats all you live for I don’t know if you know what I mean.Cause I see Sony&Ms and I can tell they are not looking out for gamers they are looking out for themselves. I can picture the board of Sony&Ms asking the question how can we cut expenses and how can we improve sales and thats all, even at the expense of the consumer or most important the GAMERS.
And thats not what Nintendo is about they are intrested on how to improve gameplay for you and me and everybody else.Now they have to in my opinion not jack up the prices but come up with the prices a little more than they are now.

So don’t get me wrong cause I know where your coming from cause I see it too so, I’m just giving you the opposite view from someone who knows what you’re trying to say but you know you gotta see it from our view too.

But point taken so reply cause I’m intrested in what you have to say.

Kilik – (Kilik is my favorite Soul Calibur character BTW) Wow, I am shocked to get such a non-biased reply back from my last post & I appreciate you’re genuine view & I see where you’re coming from. But, I have stay true to technology advancements because I get very exited about the latest & greatest hardware technology & most people want the best of the best. Now alot of people come back & say powerful hardware has nothing to do with game play or games for that matter but that is what 3rd party developers strive on to make good games & with the increasing number of game design schools, developers are coming a dime a dozen. Somewhere out there, 3rd party developers are bound to make great games & god forbid, some may even enjoy taking pride in their work.

One point you mentioned about Sony & Microsoft not in it for the gamers but rather themselves, this may be somewhat true, but on the other hand money is what drives the competition to spit out great results & a great product to give consumers what they want. You will very much see improved game play come out of all next generation consoles but I believe Sony & Microsoft have the upper hand in this category.

Come on you guys,you got me started so somebody talk to me cause I have a lot to say just not the topic to say it in so please somebody,anybody even nobodys please lets talk,chat, or I know,even better lets BLOG.

K, good point but have you ever noticed that
Nintendo did not get on board with the whole move of Sony&Ms? I mean don’t you ever wonder why they didn’t, cause it doesn’t make sense that they are losing so much profit to their competitors. Cause I think that they have a marketing department don’t you?
Cause if you do you sure don’t show it,because of the fact that well everybody is trying to be some sort of marketing analyst saying Nintendo is losing money and they need to go the way of this new movement in console gaming.


And why you say that Nintendo is at a disadvantage VS Sony&Ms is still unknown to me.

Oh,yeah I also agree with you when you say that Hardware has to be the most current in your game development,not just hardware but like you said
technology plays a big,big role in 3rd party developers. So yeah, and yeah lol.

I think I know where you’re going with your last post. I never claimed to be a marketing analyst and I never said Nintendo was loosing profit. There is reason behind the X360 despite the fact the original Xbox lost profit. Yes MS & Sony have a marketing department & there is more profit to gain from these next generation consoles other than console sales.

Microsoft’s marketing strategy lies within the realm of software sales for Windows MCE, Xlive market place, 3rd party hardware & software rights, advertisement/sponsors & Xlive itself. Also MS plans on using the hard drive as the next generation of renting/buying games, movies, Tivo etc. without ever leaving your home & the Xlive market place could be a great way to establish a solid foundation for this movement.

Sony’s marketing strategy is very similar to what they did with the PS2. Sony made a sh*t load of money off the DVD drive in the PS2 & gave more profit to Sony entertainment studios & proprietary than anyone could have predicted. Now Sony plans to use the same strategy with the PS3 & give full legal rights to the next generation of format disks (blu-ray) & the new technology of “Cell” for products other than the PS3.

There is a large profit to be made off these systems & that’s where the marketing comes into play. But after all the smoke clears, you’re left with a gaming consol and a power one at that.

PC_GAMER-you will probably see this post some time so... this is not a place for arguing about systems. as you can see there are plenty of places for that. the problem with those places is you cannot realy state an opinion and just have fun with it without being chalanged on it. this is a place for nintendo fans to discuss theories, rave about games, that sort of thing. i will keep out of your club if you keep out of mine. i cannot promise about the other nintendo fans as you cannot promise about the other nintendo haters, but please, lets leave the arguing to the arguing topics.
