Now that Soul calibur 4 is out, it by all means is a great game but it has remineded me of other fighting games that have done 1 or the 2, either make a crossover fighting game or start guest characters.
Marvel vs Capcom was most likey the best crossover fighting game made, it was outstanding to see spidey vs Ryu.
Smash Bros has also been a great crossover fighting game-(it is for the fact that characters are all from different series and also that Nintendo really had no characters already in fighting games, it is their own unqiue one)
and now we are seeing somthing new another crossover one that may rival Marvel vs Capcom, Mortal Kombat vs DC universe.
The other thing many fighting games do is now they have guest characters,
Dead or Alive 4 had Nicole
SSBB had Sonic and Snake
Soul Calibur has had many- Link, Spawn, Hitachi, Yoda, Darth Vader, and The Apprentice.
However guest characters are sometimes unfit, I mean in SSBB things were fine and even though Snake had many secrets they still made him balanced. As far as Soul Calibur goes, Hitachi was fair game, Link had a good story to be put in and he was fair as well if you never fought with the arrows, I was able to get great with him without using any specials accept the spin attack, spawn had some issues but could be fair. However I felt that the star wars characters were a little unusual for a game like Soul Calibur, story is strange and some feel weird, yoda cannot grabbed and the apprentice is very fast and deadly. I heard that vader was accpetable but I still need to try him. I felt some issues with the star wars characters to say the least, it would have been nice if you could have created your own jedi or sith though.
so what do you think is better?
Does not matter for me SSBB is in both catagories!
