What is the gender of Jenova?

Jenova is sometimes referred to as a woman, or being the mother of Sephiroth, But we have in the Playstation version of the game Aries’s mother referring to Jenova as a “he” and a “it” in the PC version.

So is Jenova a female, male, or it? Or is it just a genderless lifeform? I’d like to think the Cetra knew what the hell Jenova was as far as gender, but I’d hope the scientists would also know.

Though IMO, the form we see Jenova in is probably the form of a Cetra Jenova took and that is why it looks like a woman.

Jenova is a man and Lavos is a woman. They should get married.
