When the September NPD data was released, which the last day of tracking ended october 6, 2007, the Wii had sold 4.54 million units in the USA alone. That is after 11 tracking months of NPD. If in October 2007 tracking month for NPD Wii sales more than 454,000 units, then it will set a record for being the only console released in US to sale 5 million in a year or less.
And here’s the better thing even if the Wii just misses then it’ll definetly do it in the November month which will still be a record for doing it in 13 months.
For comparison it took 14 months for PS2 to achieve this, 16 for 360, and 25 months for the GC.
Wii is going down in history whether it does hit it or does it the next month.
Just for doubters on Wii’s success here’s what Matt of IGN had to say about 360 barely outselling Wii in September. I think it really puts things in perspective:
- Matt amazed about how it took Halo 3, an incredibly hyped game with a massive fanbase and huge marketing, to get 360 sales above 500k, yet for Wii it took nothing.

Then people will not pay for a last gen system with a gimmicky controller...
Well that has yet to be seen. Although it most likely will happen, it’ll happen at a very strategic time for Nintendo.
Let me guess when the next console is coming out or when there is too much of a margin for the 360 or ps3 to make up?
At the current rate Wii will most likely get below unacceptable sales in the later half of 2009. Meaning that this opens a great oppotunity for Nintenod to release N6 in late 2010. Not only that but MS will be looking to rlease Xbox 3 around that same time. It works out amazing and this could totally ruin Sony’s chances of ever having the PS3 magically rise or get on a roll.

the PS3 prbly wont have all of it’s features (cell, blu ray, ect.) actaully used by devs until the 2009 when new systems come wit btr tech.

Actually, I’ve seen rumors of PS4 in 2010 too. :/
For that to happen Sony would need the Ps3 to bomb as then they would have monumentous losses thx to the PS3 anyways and no way to recover them. PS3 can’t win and release in 2010. Fact of the matter. Something they might be forced to do when Nintendo and MS do this.
