Apparently the 1UP.com source was just an old rumor. For now, don’t take anything involving these characters as confirmations in either direction, in or out. However, the Ogawa comment regarding Sonic still stands.

well, going back further, i REALLY hope this is true. a couple (google translated) quotes:

Yeah, the 40 characters thing was already confirmed a while back. However, I don’t think that the clone ting was actually confirmed, but I’m sure it would happen... maybe with the exception of Young Link who probably will be replaced by WW Link.
