This story was originally descripting the online of a video game, but I got carried away and it slowly evolved into a more realistic scenario. Anyways, please give your honest thoughts on it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
You’re guarding your flag from the enemy team, you’re doing well at defending with that fancy gun turret. Anything that gets close turns into shredded shrapnel or chunky meat. The tide eventually changes. Your team slowly pushes the enemy team back, farther and farther. It seems like your team will have a chance to grab their flag now.
A player on your team yells into the mic, “Kamikaze truck heading your way!". You look left, see nothing, look right, still nothing, then look back left... An APC ramps off a nearby hill with explosives strapped to it. You take aim at the driver, but it’s no use you, and you know it. Even if you killed him the momentum would carry the truck into the building.
But, maybe you could prevent the explosives from going off, causing the least amount of possible damage.
Your bullets ring true and kill the driver. The vehicles inertia and neutral gear allows it to plow into the building. Ripping a gaping hole in the wall, cracking the second floor, and ripping your gun turret from it’s resting place. “Damn it," you can’t help but curse. Jumping off the balcony and turning to see the damage.
The APC had only taken out the outer wall and semi-crushed one of the inner support columns. Lucky draw, concrete and steal may have been the deciding factor in all of this. You hop in and slowly park it outside of the initial hole, blocking it. Now using the gun turret, smart thinking. Turn an enemy attack into a possible advantage.
A message pops up, your team has their flag. But they need support. Time to turn this into a pickup mission.
Switching down to the driver’s seat, you drive the APC away, towards the enemy base. Along the way you stop quickly to pick up a walking ally. Right before he gets to the vehicle, a beam flies through the air into his head.
“SNIPER!", you shout into the mic. Chatter is heard amongst your teammates. One team member comments on the position of the sniper. You look, and see a 4 story, thin tower. A small dot crouches atop it.
You know what you should do. You plant your own mines to the APC, a total of 8 now. Counting the enemies mines. You drive towards the tower, heart pounding in your chest, you can’t breathe, you’ve never done this before. What if you mess up? Will anyone thank you at your funeral for attempting to be a hero? NO! That’s not how it will be. You’ll be dumped in a mass grave, forgotten.
The tower was approaching fast. Your team shouting out swears as you see a massive explosion in the distance. You can only hope they made it out alive as you hold the explosive detonator firmly in your hands.
Your vehicle hits a small hill, and at the current speed, ramps cleanly through the air, lands hard, and turns harshly. Sweet pouring down your face, and with clammy hands, you hold the steering well tightly, turning it trying to steady the drift of the APC.
There is a bright light on the passenger side, a ringing pierces your ears. 'Rocket Launcher!', you think in your mind. The sniper must have more guns, and he knows what you’re planning. No doubt he’s trying to stop you.
You’re close, really close. You can practically see the contorted faces of the fallen corpses near the buildings entrance. Adrenaline pumping, things start to move more slowly. Another rocket nearly hits close to your vehicle, the shockwave turning you to your left. You attempt to regain control once again, looking to your right, you see a low bearing wall.
You APC slams into it, flips over, flying through the air like a child’s toy. Everything spins, you feel sick.
In your hand, the detonator remains waiting.
Your vehicle hits the ground less then 10 feet from the building, a momentary stallment from the impact gives you just enough time to jump out of the APC. It was easy, your door had been lost long ago.
Flailing through the air, your pupils widen as you can’t help but recall your dearest memories. You walking down an Earthen Street and meeting a beautiful girl with ocean blue eyes. A brilliant flash replaces the scene with a weeding, another, a women as she held a small tab that turned blue... Things go blurry, tears in your eyes as you press the button.
A final image is shown with a dead women laying on the Martian ground, blood soaking her clothing as a soldier stands above in orange armor, smoke emitting from the barrel.
His badge read EDF.
The APC slammed into the building, gutting the entire inside. Then the 8 mines detonated, a massive fireball ripped through the building. Melting the cold steel in a second. The tower tilts, the sniper falls to his death with a crunch. The structure bends over and snaps, crashing down into the enemy base. Completely flattening it.
Heat blazes over your skin as metal shards impact your soft body. Cutting the skin and causing fatal damage to some internals organs. You cough up blood, eyes glazed, blinking.
Still alive.
I’m still alive...?
Your vision blurs intensely, the body is already shutting down non-vital area to conserve whatever blood remains You feel tired, you hear echoed shouts, your ear piece broken. Melted to your skull. Another distant echo, calling for you.
Your team has not forgotten you.
You smile, and close your eyes. A warm memory filling your final thoughts. A fuzzy image of a small boy, looking up at you with blue eyes, smiling as he held a toy.
“I want you to have this, before I go.”, you remember saying.
You boy looked away awkwardly, then stared back. “When will you be home again?”. A moment passed.
The image froze, then cracked. With the boy continually looking up at you, with a worried expression. The image burned away into nothing. You breathed your last breath as you heard footsteps approaching.
Your heart stops beating, you blink twice, and you’re gone forever. Releasing the air from your lungs.
