anyways, part of Chapter nine
A loud scarping noise woke me up. I sat up and looked over to the wall facing the bed. I rubbed my eyes to make sure of what I was seeing. Before me something invisible was carving words into the wall.
'GO NOW PORGOS HOUSE'
I looked at the wall for a moment. No…this…this was impossible. I closed my eyes and held my head in my hands. I waited a few minutes before opening my eyes again. The words were still sprawled across the wall. I took in a deep breath.
“How? How am I suppose to go to his house when I don’t even know where he lives…how am I suppose to…to leave this god damn room!” I shouted angrily, wishing there was something I could throw. The steel door opened slowly. A flashlight rolled into the room with a note attached. I got up from the bed and crouched down and picked up the plastic flashlight. I took off the note and read it.
“ ‘You are going to need this. -T.’”
I read aloud. I crumpled the note into my hand and gave the wall one last glance. Then I turned my attention to outside the door.
I peeked my head out and saw lights flickering on and off in a fast broken manner. There was blood smeared across the floors and walls as well as bloody handprints following the trails. I flicked up the flashlight switch and began my decent into the darkened hallways of St. Andrews Hospital.
My steps echoed through the halls, my bare feet could feel something wet below but I refused to shine the flashlight towards the ground. I already knew what I was stepping in. I really didn’t want to look at it.
The hall was chilled, as if death had come and left its icy spell on the entire building. I could hear no hospital machines, just the faint buzzing of the flickering lights above. I shivered, wishing I had something on other then a hospital gown. I shined the light against the wall, following the trail of handprints. I stopped only to see a small sign beside a pair of exiting floor doors.
“Fifth Floor: Mental Ward: Staff Only”
I walked over and pushed the door but it wouldn’t budge. I tried its partner but it was the same. Both were sealed tightly.
“Someone! Is anyone there?” yelled a voice from a room a little down the hall. “Someone…is someone there?” It was a girl…her voice shook as she shouted.
I made my way towards the direction of where the voice had shouted.
“Hey!” I yelled back at her. “Where are you?”
“In here, please, something happened and I can’t, I can’t open the god damn door!” she said.
“I’m coming, just hold on a sec.” I said stopping outside a room. My feet were standing now in a pool of…a pool of something. My entire body quivered for a moment, shuddering, as the liquid below was still warm. Across the door was a giant bloody X as though trying to tell me to pass over this door. I put the flashlight in my mouth and grabbed the door handle and pushed as hard as I could. I was successful in opening the door but I lost grip of the door and fell into the pool. I looked up horrified, and managed to get out of the pool quickly.
“Hey, you, you there?” I said taking the flashlight out of my mouth and holding it up, gleaming it around the room. I heard something in the room, something that sounded like tearing. I walked in slowly, drenched in blood and shone the light towards the wall opposite of a bloodied bed. A girl sat with her back to me, the tearing sound continued. In front of her was a body with a white hospital coat. A doctor.
“Is everything ok?” I said walking closer. The girl turned her head slowly, her hair was long and dark, her skin pale…around her mouth was red…blood. She gave me a toothy grin then turned back and continued to tear away at the doctor. Feeling sick I ran from the room and shut the door behind me, making sure the door was locked shut. The girl on the other side seemed to realise this and began to bang against the steel door, screaming at the top of her lungs.
“Open up!” she screeched. “Open the door! Open it! Open the door!”
I backed away from the door as she continued the smash herself against the steel. Then she began to laugh and I could hear her body slide down from the door.
“You think I’m a monster…a monster. Ha ha, what do you know, what do they know! I’m crazy remember, ha ha, crazy, crazy, crazy!” her voice shook a little then broke into a pathetic sob. I had heard enough, and knew I needed to get out of here, fast. I spun around and across the wall in blood were the words: ‘I Warned You’
I took a deep breath and walked back down the hall looking for an exit off this floor.
