so in harrys head when him and dumbledore finish talking, what doeos dumbledore mean when harrys says

“is this real or is it all in my head?"

and dumbledore responds

“ofcourse it is all in your head but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real."

I interpreted it as meaning that Harry was experiencing a vision of some sort. But it’s a little confusing.

I haven’t read that book yet.. (Not really planning to, they kindof just get worse by the book..)

but from what I can see, it seems it’s supposed to mean..

It’s real, though technically, since it’s like a vision, it’s in his head aswell.

Ah Dumbledore and all his wisdom....

I thought it was sort of challenging the idea that what we experience physically is the only reality that exsists.
A big part of Harry’s growing up has been about him dealing with emotions...a very none-physical element of being human, and yet probably the most “real” thing about us.
Also, being a magical world makes visions and the like (Harry’s connection with Voldermort) possible. So the phrase could be interpreted quite literally I suppose...but I think maybe there’s a hint of something more that Rowling is trying to get at there.

Reality is only what we interpret it to be (so some ontologies argue). So really, reality is in our head. But that might be going to far into it.

Meh, it’s probably meant to make us think, or make the mind seem powerful or make Dumbledore seem wise.....

or maybe it’s really trying to say that Harry’s really crazy after allwink

I’d still like to know why that little baby type thing was on the ground and what the hell it is. But it’s fiction, so nope.

Well, the bit of Voldermorts soul that was in Harry was just destroyed, so Harry was in that trans-world as he would be without that soul...so pretty much himself.
Whereas Voldermort is appearing as his core self...a shriveling really gross baby-thing.

I don’t think that’s quite it...it was awhile since I read it, but I think it’s along those linessmiley

(What??? I happen to like the books)

Trackz - no technically Harry didn’t “die”. He asked Dumbledore if he was dead and Dumbledore responded something like “That is the question is it not...but on the whole I think no”. Sorry that isn’t a verbatim quotation as I left the book with my family so they could read it...

The way I see it what “died” was the bit of Voldemort’s soul that was in Harry...killed by Voldemort’s own “Avada Kedavra” curse. But Harry didn’t actually die. When he is talking to Dumbledore, he is experiencing a vision...which is why it is both real and “in his head”.

About the baby...yes I found that confusing as well. As treeplanter pointed out in the vision Harry appeared as he would be if Voldemort’s soul had never been a part of him (no scar). The baby I interpreted to be the bit of Voldemort’s soul that used to reside in Harry. If that is correct, it would explain why Harry both felt pity for it and was repulsed by it. But that could be a stretch in interpretation as we aren’t given any clues in the passage as to what it actually is.

I had trouble, but it was voldemort’s soul that was destroyed, not harry’s. I think it was a near death experience of some sort.
