Hey all Classic rock fans this foroum is for you.
I want to know what is everones favoriate rock opera. Pink Floyd’s The Wall or the Who’s Tommy.
Both are great and show both of the bands greatness. But withch do you think is better. Being a huge Floyd Fan I would have to give the nod to The Wall but that is not to undermind The Who.
So It’s Roger Waters vs. Pete Townshed game on

My vote goes to The Who. (I’m not sure who Roger Waters is, could you mean Roger Daltry?) It was wicked on the big screen. I believe it came out in '75' or '76'. Strange and stightly disturbing story, but it was rightous in the end.
That’s cool. Roger Waters was the lead singer of Pink Floyd from around the mid 60’s to about 83. He wrote most of The Wall

gotta go with pFloyd and The Wall, hands down. I’m writing a paper for my writing class over whether Tommy or The Wall is better, and so far The Wall is destroying Tommy. From my standpoint, it would’ve been a closer competition if you matched The Wall with Quadrophenia, The Who’s second rock opera. I haven’t heard it, but it is definitely doing better than Tommy so far.

The Wall sucks ass. I fell asleep during that while I was tripping acid once. Do you know how hard that is to do?
Tommy rules.

its gotta be Tommy. thats the BEST rock opera ever. although you have to be able to know what it means, its actually very deep. Tommy was the first billed “rock opera” anyway, so its the best in my opinon. Townshend forever!!

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis is the best rock opera. Lyrically, it is definitely superior. Peter Gabriel is clearly a genius. Waters might be. I love The Who, but Townshend is no genius.

Tommy is because its townshend doesn’t care who he freaks out when he writes his songs... and tommy is just amazing either way you look at it

The Wall, hands down. One of my favorite albums. How can you beat songs like “Another Brick in the Wall?"

Definitely The Wall. Tommy may be cute, but the Wall is a frame of mind. It’s like comparing Nietzsche to a fortune cookie.

The Wall wouldn’t exist without Tommy, being that Roger Waters took every idea he ever had from Pete Townshend. Listen to the themes in P.T’s writing and then listen to Pink Floyd. They are all just second takes on Pete’s ideas.

Wow... hard one, I think TOMMY beats The Wall ever so slightly... The story is so layered and dynamic, at first glance youd think it’s “Cute” but it’s actually really deep and you have to have an open mind to understand it. The movie and album are both easy to follow yet genious at the same time.
PS: Whoever said Pete Townshend wasn’t a genious, you seriously need to listen a little better, he created rock n roll songwriting and the idea of a rock opera (A quick one while he’s away was the first), if that’s not a genious than I really don’t know who is.. Not that Roger Water’s isn’t a genious, I just think Pete and his ideas blow P.F away.

I’m a big fan of both Pink Floyd and The Who, I must say I think it’s my favorite two.
Townshend created the concept, and Tommy is really good lyrically and musically!
Waters wasn’t the first one, but I’ll say he’s the best one.
Operas/musicals has existed through centuries, and it couldn’t be very far minded for any rock-genius, so The Wall might have existed even if Tommy didn’t.
The Wall is quite better musically, but what I want to listen to depends on my mood.
By the way; try listen to the vinyl version!

Honestly, I was kind of let down when I purchased the wall. (Last year). I think Tommy is better, but quadrophenia blows both of them away. By the way, pete Townshend could be a pain in the butt, but he delivered big time when it counted. He basically invented “rocks” version of the power chords, he intermixed flamingo with hard rock playing. Remember, the Who were a simple three piece band with a lead singer. They didn’t rely on extra back up, so each member worked harder to create a great sound. When it came to performing live, they were incredible; along with pink floyd. Many of the great bands used the Who roots to create their vibe.
