rock becoming too general?

Is it me, or does it seem that any band that makes use of typical rock instuments (guitar, bass, drums, etc.) is considered rock nowadays? Emo, punk, all that other crap, is all being called rock because of the instuments. Why can’t people realize that crappy pop bands that are on MTV are not real rock?

Or people dont know how to classify properly anymore, since when I download new metal songs onto Itunes they calssify them as rock, and even in one case it was classified as blues.

Rock is general term. There are ALOT of sub-terms.

No because rock does not cover those stupid songs. some moron changing a song’s genre to rock does nto make it rock.

Yup - the problem is too many all-too-similar poppy tunes are being churned out for one-hit (or a few hits) wonder bands that won’t stand the test of time. And then all being thrown under the same label.
