Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it ROYALY SUCKED.
It’s characters were almost as flat as the plot. No REAL action or drama, just like Toy Story set in post human earth. Very dumb dialogue from every character except #1.
It had the same flaws as Pan’s Labyrinth, most people are fooled by it’s imagery and the ONE cool scene and rate it as good, but any one who has a brain that requires more than watching bubbles float about for entertainment will not be fooled. It had endless potential to deliver coolness all through out, but they never took that road. Even my fiancé was bored by it and she is Japanese so she generally like anything with decent imagery and action as she has a hard time understanding quickly spoken english. She leaned over to me during the film and said “Ore wa Hima da." which translates literally to there is nothing going on. In a sense, this movie is boring.
It was like a film school story with the budget of Shrek.
BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD.
Who ever directed the trailer should have made the film. That man (or woman) is a genius. The way they can put together a trailer to look so bad ass out of a steaming pile of crap.
Look out for them in the future.
The director of this film will probably disappear in the next 5 years.
I agree with Soojaganoo, unfortunately. If I was ten, I probably would have loved it. But the fact of the matter is that the movie had a terrible nonsensical plot filled with holes, barely one-dimensional characters, and the worst dialogue I’ve heard in quite a while. It was immensely rushed, and it seemed like all throughout the beginning they were skipping every other scene. Even worse, whenever it had an opportunity for plot and making the characters remotely likable, it gave it up for yet another action scene.
The movie was gorgeous and the character designs were amazing. It was artistically brilliant. However, if you expect anything else out of it, you’re doomed to be disappointed.

I don’t think you were implying it, so I’m just asking to clarify because I’m unsure. Are you saying that because she is Japanese she generally likes things as long as they are pretty with action? Or do you mean because she is merely foreign and has a hard time following English dialog heavy plots?

It was...OK....I guess. I mean, it was different and all. But it was missing something. There wasn’t enough time to flesh out the characters, and it seemed a tad bit rushed. There were some awesome designs though, and I wish they showed more of that.
