That too many people make blanket statements is regards to other music w/o really having any real knowledge of the music/genre in question. Now,Im a rap fan but Im not going to make blanket statements on metal music based off what I think is from some mainstream radio/TV program.I think the same thing for rap music too.Way too many biased/one sided people on here.
if some rap fan on here that has no real knowledge of metal thinks its just loud noise, screaming, satanic, devils ,etc..stuff what does a metal fan do?They should take the time out to show the rap fan that the stereotype isn’t true by leading them to groups and whatnot that show them what true metal is.
on the flipside,if some rockers think all rap music sounds like nelly or puff daddy or that rappers only talk about bling or they don’t have real musicianship behind their beats etc..it’s up to rap fans to educate them and show that these stereotypes are false and lead them to some real hiphop
Finally, one thing I believe people should never do is judge a music based on the popularty of certain songs and artists because something that most people seem to forget is that most popular stuff is also the most watered down stuff on the genre. The best stuff is usually the people that don’t get alot of play.
Well said.
It should be made clear to all that the worst excesses of any genre are the most mainstream, and that for a better representation of a genre, you have to look elsewhere.
Also, obtaining an overall knowledge of all genres is both useful and necessary before making bold statements about any particular one.

see, that’s why Im willing to respect your opinion because even though I know you’re a metal fan you aren’t biased and one sided in your views. You use common sense when judging stuff.
This thread deserves a sticky
