“emo music” is pretty mainstream, I wouldnt call it alternative
if you want REALLY alternative, listen to Animal Collective
although if you want something that doesn’t sound like heinous shit instead, try Porcupine Tree, Jethro Tull if your into 70s prog, minus the bear, sage francis - a healthy distrust (if you feel like a bit of rap), maybe Katatonia for some depression, Dredg are nice and chiller... disturbed, coheed and cambria are a bit more lively
