everyone knows complex rhythms=good music.

Definitely.

In all seriousness, I’d rather listen to Tchaikovsky than metal.

At this point I’d rather listen to a lot of things than metal.

I’ve been getting into rap lately, different things brought to the table as opposed to just guitars, distortion, drums, the standard metal platter.

Some guys are insane with the rhyme schemes they come up with, and have an entire verse going with one rhyme. It’s pretty impressive, and a nice change of pace from “GOR GOR RAR RAR”.

I honestly like listening to stuff without lyrics. A lot of people I know call themselves music lovers when they concern themselves with the vocals and only the vocals. Pisses me the fuck off. There’s a few other guys there too. Maybe give them some appreciation, not just the lead singer.

Then again, I might be biased. I’m a musician, but not a singer.

Well man you’re missin' out. There is some sick as hell rap out there. Some that’s even pretty metal in itself

Oh, that’s not to say that I don’t listen to stuff with lyrics. I just prefer instrumentals.

And I see what you mean there with the rap. I’ve always liked rap.

Yeah, a lot of music elitists give it a hard time for not focusing on the instrumentals as much as they’d like, but there’s some fucking impressive stuff out there. I think one of the coolest rhymes I ever heard was

“we got the ammunition/
to change your condition/
to demolition/
no competition/
our opposition/
all in submission/
you will disappear like I’m a magician/
transition/
straight to the mortician/
for decomposition/
as a new addition/
to the graveyard”

There’s some really great stuff to be said about rap, I don’t know why so many people think it’s either one genre or the other.

Elitist faggotry. Rap is great stuff. I wish that metal had more rap aspects in it.

inb4 nu metal bashing.

I think music is one of the most elitist forms of media in the world. Think about it, you don’t see or hear people argue about movies, TV, or anything as viciously as they discuss music. Maybe video games, but music is basically the foundation for every faggy clique in existence (thugs, emos, scenes, indies, metalheads, etc). People identify themselves by their musical tastes. It’s pretty disgusting.

I tend to shut people up when I answer the question “Who is your favorite artist?" with a random classical composer. Usually Tchaikovsky or Mussorgsky.

Classical’s too boring for me. Most of it’s so boring or slow and drawn out, it’s like Dragonforce but without even some cool sounds going on to keep me interested. I’ll listen to some on an extremely rare occasion but mostly those niglets collect dust in my library.

Most stuff collects dust in my library actually. The only time I really listen to music anymore is if I’m at the gym, and even then if I can manage to snag a machine with a TV built in the mp3 player is left to rot.

Most kids are not really into classical music. They usually develop a taste as they get older. I got into it early because I have been exposed to it my entire life.

You must have not listened to too much classical music, there are alot of fast and loud pieces like Tocatta and Fugue, O Fortuna, Beethoven’s 6th Symphony 4th Movement, and among others.

I’ve listened to plenty of classical (Prokofiev, Bizet, Shostakovich to name a few), I just never got into them. Also: tocatta is overrated and B’s 6th was a joke.

Music professionals disagree with you, along with me lol

People love to suck Beethoven’s cock as often as they can just because he’s probably the most famous composer (and that’s probably only because he was deaf). Very rarely will you find someone who openly critiques him but I can say everything from his 6th symphony on was just depressing.

Don’t worry, you will grow up and see its beauty some day my friend.

Oh come off it. Fact is none of Beethoven’s stuff was even particularly great when compared to other composers. A good PR guy will do you a lot of good.

I will say it again, you will grow. smiley

Or, to put it less douchey:

“You don’t like Beethoven, or “classical” music in general”

it’s not a hard concept. I hardly listen to actual music, I have a particular lack of interest in old crap played in orchestras of all things.

Or not, it’s not a hard concept to grasp that some people just don’t like some music.

I don’t get why you’re being so stubborn.

I am just saying you will grow to like it one day, or at least appreciate it and see its beauty. Pretty much everyone does. I am saying you will grow up and see how artful the music is.

Yeah, I’m not going to grow up and learn to appreciate the art or anything of country, it’s not going to happen with classical.

Not everyone has to have some appreciation for classical, stop being an ignoramus.

You think that now, you will see differently later. All adults above 25 I have met are like that. They may not like the music, but have intense appreciation for it. You are a little bit too used to music with more simple structure and with minimal creativity involved (such as a genre like pop), or at least a genre with inferior creativity (hip hop, rock, metal) which follow simple structures. When you listen to something such as classical music , you are unable to understand it and thus do not appreciate it or like it. This usually comes about with age and more development with the brain. I was able to be around classical music my entire life and learning music theory so I was adjusted to it more. Your brain will develop as well into the music. You may not like it, but you definately will appreciate it. Like I said, it comes along with age.

Maybe some classical stuff is good, but mostly no. And I know that you’re nuts for it Bach, but there it is possible for someone to always hate something. If he’s guaranteed to later appreciate classical music then why won’t he be guaranteed to later appreciate country? Duznt maek sense, scents, or cents.

Anyways, METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

Of course he doesn’t have to like it, I have mentioned that numerous times earlier. Most of it is good, btw, since it has been remembered for 100s or years, and will always be remembered, something that will not happen to metal artists or rockers or rappers. Country has a very simple structure, so that does not apply to at all to what I am saying. The only other genre that would also apply here with classical music in this sense is Jazz music. Classical music is a very complicated genre that few children understand due to its structure that is superior in its complexity against popular music genres like metal, rap, rock, country, pop, etc. People like you and raep do not like it because you cannot understand it, which IS something you will grow out of. You may not necessarily like it, but you will respect it and see its beauty. It comes on with your development and brain being able to grasp more complicated ideas and as your childhood music fades away.

wow you’re the most pretentious faggot.

I “get” classical music just fine, stop acting like it’s on some higher plane of understanding just because it’s old and has more people involved in it.

It’s a quite common concept called “taste," maybe instead if having your brain develop so much to appreciate “classical” music so much (which is by far one of the most douchey things I’ve ever read), you might want to spend some time learning simple things like personal taste.

I don’t like “classical” music, I find it boring. There’s nothing more to it. I don’t know where the hell you’re getting brain development as a factor in this anyway, unless you’re just making shit up, which I’d wager is a good guess.

Hey, lets not start with name calling! It hurts my feelings!

No, but seriously, name calling on teh interwebz? GIT REEL

You obviously don’t if you think Beethoven’s 6th was a joke wink Kids do not like classical music as a rule this is a given unless they have been exposed to it for an extended amount of time. Rap, which I believe is your favorite genre of music, goes by a very simple structure, and you are used to that structure, which is why you like other popular forms of music, like metalcore I believe you started to like at one point, and not to mention, metal period. Also with these popular genres you have a beat or riff going through a loop being played over and over again, which you also are used to. Then there is classical music, which as a structure that is different with each piece, and is highly complicated. To you when you listen to it, it is boring because it does not make sense to you. If it did, however, you would see the beauty in it, or see how it should be appreciated (Tocatta and Fugue and Beethoven’s 6th are DEFINATELY pieces that need to at least be appreciated and realized as true art) Trust me, raep. Give it time. You will see what I mean probably in college or after college. That, or take a musical theory course. You will see the difference in your appreciation for it. You think you can understand it right now because you can hear the melodies, but

EDIT: Here is an anology I have thought of. Rap, Pop, and other of these genres are to kids working on photoshop, as Classical music is to the famous painters like Picasso, Dali, etc.

Listen more closely (which probably won’t work for you right now even, I still suggest giving it time) This is all a very well known idea help my musical historians. These are all reasons why classical music, and its musicians will always be remembered, and your rapper will most likely be forgotten in about 20 years or at the most, 100 years. People like Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, they have been remembered for an incredible amount of time, and are still the most studied musicians out there.

My elitism meter is going nuts.

Like I said, it comes along with age.

wow you’re the most pretentious faggot.

You think you can understand it right now because you can hear the melodies, but it is much more than that.

I don’t think I’ll ever like more classical music than I already do.

Something WAY off topic, lol

Not that off topic. I know alot of bands with classical influences. Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Symphony X, and several doom metal bands.
I’m not and avid listener of classical though.

You can’t really tell, because most people get into it when they get older. Mst adults I know such as my own parents, family, and neighbors despised classical music until they reached their mid 20s or 30s. By then 50% love it and appreciate it, and the other 50% somewhat likes it, but definately sees the art and beauty in it.

If you think there’s no skill involved in a carefully crafted pop song, you are a fool and desperately naive. Top pop writers get paid hundreds of thousands for good reason.

Sure they may be creative? But compared to the greats? Don’t think so.

And kill myself? M’kay, I have a gun, a rope, a knife, and cyanide. Which do you prefer?
