Its all about heart, if the coach sees you working your ass off more some then your peers you are automatically on his mind.
It helps to be able to shoot, know how to dribble and pass. Work on your footing, your knees should never touch.
Look up some basketball training videos and learn more about how to play and practice the skills.

im pretty good at dribbling passing and stealing

Then consider Point Guard, you have to be smart and in good shape though.
