I just recently got a Mac, because my school’s letting us students use laptops. But I just want to know if you can install Windows.

Unless it’s an obsolete Power-PC based Mac, you should be able to (they’re all Intel-based now). Google for boot camp to dual boot.

I think with boot camp you can also run Windows alone (without dual booting with Mac OS), but I don’t think many people do that.
If you happen to have a Power-PC-based Mac your only option may be VMWare Fusion or Microsoft Virtual PC.

I will say...

If you were planning on using Windows (unless you wish to go between OSX and XP frequently) all the time, then it would’ve been better to just buy a non-Mac. Cheaper and more flexibility as far as hardware goes, unless you don’t want to choose your specific parts and just go factory built (which is always a waste).
