Hello Lounge Forum users. I’m going to college soon, and I was pondering how I may be able to make my room/bedroom off-limits as with a lot of people, they want to keep their personal space uninvaded especially when it only has their belongings in it anyway. I am one of these people and would want to know how to make this area inaccessible to anyone. Currently, I just press the lock from the inside of the room then close the door from the outside, that way you could only enter the room if you place a pin-like object (like a cotton-less swab) into a small hole in the middle of the knob from outside the room and push it in to unlock the door, and no one really thinks/dares of doing this but me, though since everyone knows this is how the door is unlocked, I can’t rest assured no one would enter while I’m gone (because someone has done this before in the past). I don’t live with any small children so my request is respected for the most part and everyone knows I would absolutely hate it if anyone entered my room for whatever reason. I’ve even had a sign on it for several years but recently covered it only because it was bothering two people in the family, but the rule to not enter it still remains.

So I was wondering, how could I seriously lock the room without anyone having a chance of entering? I could install a door lock but, this is not feasible, at all. I would have to make a big circular hole in my door where the lock would go and an indent next to the side of the door for it to lock in the first place, and this is a carpenter’s job, and considering he has to work from the inside of the room to do this (since the door only opens towards my room, not outward) the point of getting this installed is kind of moot.

So I was wondering if anyone has a better alternative, something I myself can do. My best current idea involved this, a typical school locker lock:

I was thinking, perhaps, what if you can get something that I can wrap around my door knob (like something hard and plastic that someone can’t rip through) and have it closed together with this lock? That thing is what I’m currently looking for, and if someone has a better alternative of course please tell me so that I can go to college without worrying about what’s going on in my room. sad

Thanks a bunch...

Go to your local Walmart’s hardware section and tell them you want to put a padlock on a door, and that you news a staple azbd hast set to fit on the door.

The staple is bolted or screwed into your door and the hast is bolted onto the doorframe. When the door is closed you can push the hast over the staple (which has a loop on it) then secure it with any type of padlock.

Shouldn’t cost more than $10.

Just get a regular doorknob with a lock & key if you already have door that lock with a little button and can be unlocked with pen there’s no need to cut the door. But since your obviously insane don’t even get a combo lock just get lock with key.

No, I don’t do drugs. I have all my valuables in my room (consoles, laptop, furniture, TV, etc.) why would I want anyone accessing them? Heck the things in my room are in better condition than just about anything outside of it because people here hardly take care of anything in the house.

Or I can get something that looks a lot like what I already have, just key-based and I think the person below nailed it.

Why would I be insane? And by combo lock do you mean a knob with a bolt like most main house doors have? If so well I can’t do that since I would need to make another hole in the door for the bolt and another indent in the door frame for it, but yeah I like the keyed knob. I’ll just take off my current one and put a key-based one to replace the pin-based one.

But I was thinking, guys, is there something out there like this: http://www.amazon.com/Kidco-Door-Knob-Lock-Clear/dp/B0010CD2IO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1293187583&sr=8-1-catcorr

that are combination or key-based? These are nice and I would love to have them...but they’re kind of useless since they’re just meant to keep babies away....i.e. anyone older can figure these out since they’re like those push-open caps on medicine containers. I really would prefer to just use my old knob, but put something like this on it to prevent someone from accessing the knob...I just don’t know why they don’t make one of these with a key or rotating combination...would be a GREAT idea...having to install this without taking apart part of your door (i.e. the knob)...
