Is 117 Systolic over 55-65 Diastolic.

Is that a good thing?

You will be fine. As an average your systolic is usually 100 + your age and diastolic is between 55 - 80 again dependent on your age and fitness level. Your blood pressure is fine. No need to worry.

Lol, I know. I just wanted to see people’s reaction.

Sorry to correct, but the actual optimum Systolic pressure is around 120 while Diastolic pressure is around 70. Diastolic pressure is the more important of the two considering that it is the action that pumps blood around the body.

You see? This is why people don’t like me.

No, nothing like that.

I was bored. And a lot of times I’m correcting people.

“Diastolic” refers to the stage of the heart cycle when the heart muscles relax and the ventricles fill with blood. It’s the point where there is the lowest pressure in the arteries.

“Systolic” refers to the point where the heart muscles contract in order to pump blood into the aorta and pulmonary artery. This is the point where there is high pressure in the arteries.

Although 120/80 is often said to be the “ideal” reading, in reality people’s blood pressure varies even throughout the day. So really there is a normal “range”.

And for those who are hypertensive, a lower than 120 systolic pressure is often induced by medications (e.g. ACE inhibitors).
