Apparently a sting ray, it’s on CNN’s website.
He could have died a cooler death though, like fighting a robotic crocodile, killing it, then the crocodile poison kills him.

This is a strange way for him to die, its like when Patton, one of the world’s greatest generals of all time got killed in a car accident....I mean, A CAR ACCIDENT!!?? The only way for a general to die, in Patton’s words, is to die from the last bullet, from the last battle of the last war...
In the end, the croc hunter died doing what he did best, may God bless and keep his soul....

Stingray kills 'Croc Hunter' Steve Irwin
CAIRNS, Australia, Sept. 4 (UPI) — Australia’s internationally renowned “Crocodile Hunter," Steve Irwin was killed Monday by a stingray barb to the heart as he was filming underwater.
Irwin, 44, was struck in shallow waters as he was filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef called “Ocean’s Deadliest”, The Australian reported.
His crew pulled him aboard his research vessel, Croc One, summoned a rescue helicopter and sped to a meeting point 30 minutes away as they performed CPR on him, reports said.
The Melbourne-born naturalist’s “Crocodile Hunter” program was first broadcast in Australia in 1992 and is shown around the world on the Discovery cable network. Irwin also starred in movies and helped develope the Australia Zoo wildlife park, north of Brisbane, which was started by his parents Bob and Lyn Irwin.
Marine experts said the stingray was about 8 feet across with a jagged, 10-inch barb on its tail.
Irwin is survived by his U.S.-born wife, Terri, daughter Bindi, 8, and three-year-old son Bob.

With his last bit of energy Steve cast all of his body’s power into mine. Now Steve shares my body. Behold as I wrestle a crocodile!

Attention peoples! I’ve uncovered evidence that led me and fellow investagtors to evaluate the true nature of Irwin’s death.
It appears that that his death was no accident, but that it was really an assasination planned by an elite group of crocodile commandos seeking revenge for their constant televised humiliation by Irwin. I have bank records that indicate a few million dollars were transferred by the group to a private account registered to the sting ray. It is my belief that the commandos realized that they couldn’t directly attack Irwin, lest they bring about dire reprocussions upon their species. So I believe they in fact hired the sting ray as an assasin to eliminate Irwin and improve life for crocodiles everywhere.
End Report...due to the top secret nature of this report, this message will self-destruct by the direct order of CIA officials.
Boom!
