I doubt the credibility of that claim. First, rap does not consist entirely of battles. Second, what distinguishes rap from other genres is a variety of things: namely instrumentals, the rhythm, lyrics, and rhyme scheme. It is very hard to believe that Scottish rhyming had anything to do with current day or 1980s rap.

Those lines are actually from Titus Andronicus, Act IV, Scene 2.

neither I, nor the article, claim that the scottish invented Rap, just rap battling. 80’s rap comes directly from Muhammed Ali and black men in the later 70’s emulating his lyrical rhymes. But hundreds of years before that, the Scottish battled with rhymes and limericks. And not all battling includes music, many are on the street and not a club.

Luckily your disbelief has no effect on historical facts and historically the first rap battlers were drunk Scottsman and the first Yo Mama was from Shakespeare

Its actually not in Midsummers Night Dream. I have read a lot of Shakespeare, and it actually is in Titus Andronecus
