The only problem is sometimes laws need to be challenged. We have some of the stupidest laws sometimes. For instance some guy got 175 years in prison just because he had a lot of weed. Having weed is not a deserving offense to serving life in jail. I’m not saying weed is good, I’m saying it just doesn’t seem like a fair punishment. It’s like “wow. You had a bunch of this one kind of plant found in nature. You should go to jail and never get out."

People should not fear the law, they should respect it, and challenge it if need be. It’s what the founders of this country did.

i agree that several laws in this country are flawed in many ways.... and bringing up the people who are responsible for being so cryptic they have caused civil strife and division isn’t a very good point to make...

I’m saying, the criminals of today may be the heroes and great men of tomorrow. It depends on how we treat them.

I’m not saying that there should not be punishment and the people who did no wrong do deserve to be free and such, but what I’m saying is, there is different ways we can look at this. What is the right of today could be the wrong of tomorrow. A prime example is Adolf Hitler. He was pretty damn loved by his people. He was on the cover of times magazine. Now, what is the general consensus of him now? It’s pretty much the opposite. So that’s what I’m saying too, if we punish some one cruely, then maybe tomorrow those people will look like Matyrs or something.

Like I said earlier, there are people who may deserve it. Such as sociopaths who do it because mental treatment or prison will do nothing to them.

though to be honest...where i live people laugh at the law... the vast majority (about 98%) of the people i know do drugs, steal, drink alcohol, ect. and it’s because (and i quote) “who cares? if we get caught we’ll just be put in jail for awhile." -.-

i’m just saying our youth (also known as our future) has no respect, and shows signs of never feeling that respect... the majority is just a bumbling band of vagabonds that have been spared the rod one to many times.... after all .... “spare the rod, spoil the child” and look what we have now.....

This may be true, but isn’t this what happens with every generation? Each generation is more and more spoiled, but our society has some what got pussified too. So it is kinda going both ways.

that’s my point....we need to toughen up.... we need to go back to when people actually had ambitions and cared about their country...truly cared.... i’m not saying we copy what we did then... i mean mix the best of then and now.

I’ve read some fucked up torture stories, and when the criminals are caught they just get sent to jail. When I read those stories I just get so pissed off that they can get away with that shit. If you kill someone, you get killed. If you torture someone, you GET tortured, not sent to prison for 20 years.

And none of this sitting on death row shit either, if there is irrefutable evidence that you committed a murder, you should be fucking executed shortly after the trial.

And i dont care how old you are, if your old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, to know that taking the life of another human being is wrong, your old enough to die.

My biggest problem with this is that I don’t entirely trust the justice system. If someone is wrongfully convicted but they’re imprisoned they can always be released. But if someone’s executed there’s nothing that can be done.

One example would be the group of 3 men known as the “West Memphis 3”. 2 were convicted to life in prison, 1 to execution by lethal injection. When the three were convicted, 2 were barely into adulthood and 1 was still a minor. The “irrefutable evidence” was a coerced confession from the 1 guy who is mentally disabled.

They’ve done DNA testing now that proves absolutely that none of these men were involved in the crime. But about two years after that evidence was unearthed, the men are still sitting in prison.

And one judge denied a hearing based on the new DNA evidence for the case of the man on death row.

Yeah that’s the huge problem with capital punishment, it isn’t fair when someone is wrongfully convicted, there were many cases in which someone could have murdered another person and framed someone innocent at the scene and before you know it that innocent person is killed for something he didn’t do. I do admit it is a bit immoral to do that especially without solid evidence. BUT they should provide an area of prison where these convicts are kept to themselves, in which they receive the worst possible punishment.

That would be against the law what you’re suggesting at least in America. But usually the really bad guys get killed or beat up in prison.

Like I will give you an example since I read about this guy pretty in depth.

The Serial Killer Richard Kuklinski(claimed to have killed 200 people, was only proven for like 6 or something like that) Well, he would never kill children or women. That was his rule. He even threatened to kill children killers in prison.

Anyway, children killers/rapists usually are the ones who get the most punishment in jail.

Thats weird.
A killer is a killer, doesn’t make him much better who he killed.

agreed.... again...they’re scum...and don’t deserve any “humane” treatment. they deserve to suffer for their crimes...

The way I look at it is:
Yes, maybe it will lower crime a little bit because people are scared to die. But I don’t think that crime would lower enough for it to matter.

For the victims family, killing the murderer might make them feel better or it may not. If the murderer is executed, that doesn’t bring the victim back to life. Now you’ve just lost two lives instead of one. Besides, the murderer has to live with the fact that he/she killed someone. As someone said before, being executed is the easy way out.

When/if the murderer is executed, what about his/her family? Sure he/she might’ve done something horrible, but he/she is still part of a family. So now we have two families who have lost loved ones instead of one.

A huge problem is the fact that sometimes a person is wrongfully convicted. When they are killed and later found out to be innocent, that means the person died for no reason whatsoever. This leads to alot of problems. The families are furious, the justice system failed and all kinds of things happen.

I really don’t think that capital punishment is right.

American States without the death penalty have lower murder rates:

http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/deterrence-states-without-death-penalty-have-had-consistently-lower-murder-rates

If you want to reduce crime, stop the war on drugs.

i totally agree that death should be given to the criminals found guilty of sickining crimes such as murders, rapes and pedophile..but only if it is 100% sure that they are guilty as in 100% every evidence points to them and then case close it will not be re open..

but for some other crimes such as bashing people on the street, robbery and others there should be more punishment than a simple slap on the wrist..all they get if they caught stealing or bashing people up are a mere a few days or weeks in jail and then they go back and commit crimes again..

in other country if u get caught stealing they chop of ur hands..there should be something like that..i believe more harsh punishment is needed to keep our community safe..it’s because the justice system have so much flaws and punishment are not severe enough that is why some people aren’t scared of committing a crime.

Go to a country like the Philippines where the prison is bundled with hardly any food. That is what I call the worst possible punishment, especially the fact that you would spend your entire life just to see it get more and more crowded and disgusting.
That’s how all prisons should be, only for the criminals who committed very serious crimes.

this is what happens to you in philippines prison..

lol just adding a little humour into this
