Thank You! Stevey-R is completely right. Thats what i’ve been trying to say. You can’t just suddenly disappear after killing your grandfather because when you go back in time you are affected by it. Time is not a factor when you go back. If your not suppose to in that period why should the time affect you? Your just gonna re-write history without you being included. Me and this guy got some brains. This theory is right.

Interesting, i got a theory that does infact allow you to kill your grandfather without there being a paradox. Time is independent to everything else, but not when you travel back in time. When you travel back in time you become independent to time and so are not affected by any alteration of events during the time period you traversed through. So, if you did kill your grandfather, you would never be born, but the you that killed him cannot be directly affected by the change in events. In other words you re-write history, but you would not be included in this re-write. If you were to travel back forward to 'present day' know one would know who you were, because in their history you don’t exist.
I suppose it completely depends on if you’re actually traveling back through time or if you’re simply traveling to an alternate dimension.
If you’re actually traveling through time.. It would be like you erased time. There is no future, it doesn’t exist because nothing is certain. Everything is left to chance. So a future can’t actually exist, theoretically.
After putting a lot of thought into it.. I’ve decided that time travel is pretty much impossible because of that. If you travel back through time you pretty much destroy the future that you came from because it’s impossible that it exists.
Unless of course you take the Back to the Future (I think it was that movie) theory that when you go back in time, you don’t destroy your future, you simply create an entire new timeline. Which would actually be the most likely answer.. Give me a moment... I’m brainstorming here. O.o
YUS!
I’ve got it! The paradox wouldn’t have worked to begin with.
Like I said, it impossible for there to be a future because nothing is certain. If you go back in time to kill your grandfather he WILL die. But you WILL NOT disappear because you’ll create a second timeline. There will then be two futures, one that is currently unfolding as you’re there where your grandfather died and one where he wasn’t killed and continued to live on. In the second timeline you will not be born. But in your original time you are still born because the future was already created and can’t be changed!
=D
I is smrt.
But unfortunately this also means that you can’t change the past. So let’s say you did find a way to travel back through time. If you handed yourself the blue prints to the Playstation 2 and you become the inventer, you’d only be rich in that 2nd timeline. Thus the only way to get the money would be to wait in that timeline until the you there became rich. *shrugs*

Things/beings already created in a future time cannot cease to exist after altering a past time.
That’s how I see it.

mm very interesting. This is what i personally think. When you travel back in time and kill your grandfather, you will cease to exist in the world in which you killed your grandfather, but in other worlds you do exist. So logically the paradox is accounted for, but the idea that there are other identical worlds is beyond any practical scope :S

i think that if you go back in time and kill your grandfather you would not be in the futur to kill your grand father in the first place there for your grand father is still alive and you are born.

Well thank you bob 2035 for that brief description of the first post.
But in response to the original post (or bob’s) and this is not an answer just a theory. Now lets say for example (and bob sorry again) that bob 2035 went back in time and killed his grand father. Personally I think nature has countered the fact that some one would go back in time to kill their grandfather, but lets say in universe A. bob killed his grandfather and thus his entire family from his grandfather on. But in another universe or universe B. that fallows the same time line except the fact that bob went back in time bobs grandfather would still be okay as would bob' family.
p.s. if anyone has a hard time understanding this let me know and i will explain more.

this might be a little off subject but is there a theory that states what could hapen if you save someones life in the past and what will change? as if there was a revolutionary leader if martin luther king wasn’t assassinated? to where his great grandson would be the one to end war and corruption?..i would love to read up on that one please get in touch with me...tyoung678@yahoo.com

Im sorry but most of what has been said is speculation, based on theories, creating a new THEORY.
Time for MY speculation. Surely, as said by at least one person in this thread,to kill your grandfather would have caused you never to have existed, unless you believe in the numerous variations of the multiple/parallel universe theory which would allow you to have commited the event whilst simultaneously not committing the event.
If there is a single universe/timeline, then we get into the paradox which you probably know by now if you have read this thread. HOWEVER, we do not know whether the “paradoxical event” has occured, as if it had, the person who had killed his grandfather never existed. Therefore everyone who ever succeeded in it has, and never will exist. Just as the people who will commit it in the future will never exist.
No one will ever, or can ever, kill their grandfather because they do not exist. Only people who do not try to or do not succeed to kill their grandfather exist in this world as the suceeding ones have been filtered out of existence to put it simply. If you think this through you will realise the logic behind it that cannot be explained in words without repeating obvious statements.

what i think is you will still be born but you will be a completly differnt person,to think grandma wont move on and find some 1 eles is more far fetched then time travel it self she would find some 1 eles give birth to your father but heres the clencher if ur father was destion to be with your mother or will they find diff partners if they do you will basicly be split in 2 if they do meet then its a coin flip if you will turn out the same or be completly differnt, it takes to too tango if u have gens of your father in you and you have gens of your mother in u then that makes you, but u split those gens and mix it up with 2 differnt ppl each then you exist in to differnt places any replays email me crazy_ace30 @ yahoo .com

It’s impossible anyways. One cannot travel back through time.
