I’m constantly getting Space updates sent to me so I thought I’d make a Topic to put them in

The most recent was today

on Oct 9th the LCROSS {Lunar Crater Observation Sensing Satellite} will be crashing into a crater on the south pole of the Moon

It will be slamming the spent rocket casing into Cabeus A crater and sending up a plume of Lunar material that will be collected and tested by the orbiting satellite. The results will be broadcast back to NASA before the satellite also is sent crashing into the moon

They are looking for evidence of water, whether under the surface or in the Lunar soil. They already know there is frozen Hydrogen in the permanent shadows of the south pole which is why they chose the location

Let the hunt for Space Ninja’s Begin!

NASA is getting ready to launch the Widefield Infrared Survey Explorer {WISE}

“WISE will scan the entire sky at infrared wavelengths, creating the most comprehensive catalog yet of dark and dim objects in the cosmos: vast dust clouds, brown dwarf stars, asteroids — even large, nearby asteroids that might pose a threat to Earth.“

Holy shit that’s a big ring. I wonder how the hell that happened! O.o

And they’re probably still gonna hit the moon. Gonna do it Friday, check science news then.

yep friday morning, though it’s almost pointless now because India has shown that water ice is on the moon using NASA images in conjunction with their own orbiting satellites

but Friday will be when NASA actually tests dust plumes for water

to quote “The new belt lies at the far reaches of the Saturnian system, with an orbit tilted 27 degrees from the main ring plane.

The ring is tenuous, consisting of widely-dispersed particles of ice and dust. Spitzer’s infrared eyes were able to spot the glow of the cool dust, which has a temperature of only about 80 Kelvin (minus 316 degrees Fahrenheit).

The ring would be difficult to see with visible-light telescopes. The relatively small numbers of particles in the ring wouldn’t reflect much visible light, especially out at Saturn where sunlight is weak.

“The particles are so far apart that if you were to stand in the ring, you wouldn’t even know it," said Verbiscer. “By focusing on the glow of the ring’s cool dust, Spitzer made it easy to find."“

Yeah I was just reading that article on another site. Amazing to think we’re just finding that out now and it’s in our own backyard.

School=bullshit but eventually leads to success. very sadly, if you are picking up something in college, i recommend you pick up something you can very strongly relate to.
