1 - It assumes everyone in africa is black. If a white person came over from South Africa to the USA you wouldn’t call him African American...
2 - It assumes that all black people come from Africa, ignoring Australia, India, Jamaica etc.
3 - It calls a black person American if they live in America, but somehow identifies them also as African just because their race originated there even if they have never been to Africa
4 - Everyone’s ancestry goes back to Africa anyway

Because people like to label things that is why. To me if you are a legal citizen of the US your an American. I don’t distinguish you from anyone else. What other people want to call other people is there business.
